Which was fine we were never official but it still hurt. Then a year later she decided to come back to me. I thought it was fantastic. Well it wasn't, she was a completely different person and had changed from the person I had realized I had liked, but it was too late.

It’s a coping and ego thing. As time goes on and we make it a point to move on the brain Convinces itself that we are foolish to ever be very into that person and convince ourselves that they’re no longer that important. Even though they still are. True healing and moving on is when you heal and then move forward without having any attachment to them and you realize they just were not for you. There is big difference between ego moving on and true moving on.

Women are emotional. They can make a decision now to dump you then come back down the road. Iv seen this happen many times. They can do a 180 and want you back. So just because they dumped you at that moment doesn’t mean they don’t want future with you. Sometimes it’s over it’s over and that’s it. Other times From my personal experience depending on how long you been with them or the personal history you have she always will come back. Age and maturity also is a huge part of it. Some women end things because they can’t handle the heat in the kitchen at that moment in time and they are protecting themselves by ending it. My girlfriend has done it 3 times now. She didn’t have best father figure in her life and it’s affected our relationship because of it.

I was the dumper. He kept playing hot and cold. Jump in and then out so I had to let him go. I couldn’t do it anymore emotionally. I made sure to give him closure and yet still I didn’t get the same in return. Of course you ask yourself what did I do wrong yada yada. In the end i don’t think the dumper such as myself is always the villain. In my situation it hurt me more to walk away than it did when I was in it.

It happens that people come back, too. I am not talking about narc or the ones who play games. Once I went no contact (we were still talking until that moment and he didn't wanna disappear completely) taking for granted that he would have disappearrd for good. I lost every hope in my head. I was sad, I thought it was over. I gave up but inside of me I was energetically chasing what it could have been. I was running after the image of him in the first months. Despite my silent chasing mode, he contacted me one month later saying that he was obsessed with me and he couldn't help thinking about me all the time. He's got an APD but he's not a liar. I experienced this more than once in the past (with two different people). Any single time I went radio silence but I still felt like the beggar, the other person got haunted in his mind too. It seems against any logic, energetically speaking but it happens. I guess it depends on the people involved.

So the question to ask said dumpee is "where is that opinion coming from?" It's not always cut and dried. We have to know WHY it isn't working, what happened, what was assumed, what was feared... the list is long. I have a client whose friends insisted she do NC. We did the opposite, only because her situation was not black and white and the man truly loved her. They're better than ever. The last card is NC. Great video Susan! If you haven’t done one already, I would love if you could make a video on how this whole process works when your ex is not just somebody who you may have dated casually or were in a short term relationship with, but rather someone who you were either married to or lived with for many many years. I know people say that if someone dumps you, you should move on and not look back but I feel like when we’re talking about a long-term relationship, especially something like a marriage, you have both pledged to be with each other through both the good and bad times. Life can be very challenging and it is very possible for people to lose their way so I don’t know if completely moving on as opposed to being patient and trying to work through things with your spouse is necessarily the right move. I feel like a lot of couples go through struggles when we’re talking about a decades long relationship… that’s just part of being in a long-term relationship. However, I think some couples choose to stay together during these difficult periods and they are seen as more committed even though they might not be doing much of anything to improve their relationship, whereas for the couples who physically separate, the opinion seems to be that you should just move on and not waste your time trying to reconcile with someone who left you. I would be curious to hear what advice you would give for this type of scenario. Would you still recommend doing no contact and moving on or should the response be more nuanced than that? If you could please address that in a video, that would be wonderful 🙂!!

I am the dumper. Did so because things were too weird, red flags, etc. It was extremely difficult. Yet, I'm on NC for six weeks. He did contact me last week to return something of mine, and I was very formal about it and told him I had somebody else retrieve the item for me and I picked it up from them. He responded with a few lines, to the effect, oh, okay, sorry for any inconvenience. Haven't received or made any contact since. Again, I was the dumper, but for good reason(s). He has to make the move to go to the next level, because I'm not participating otherwise. In the meantime, I'm trying to muddle through, being very active, yoga, meditation, spending quality time with the doggies, job transfer, etc. I realize that in the greater scheme of things, that if I move on, it will be okay. But part of me does wish he would reach out for that heart-to-heart talk.

You are so spot on as always Susan. My ex and I split up at the beginning of quarantine, but she lives with a few of my good friends (essentially my COVID pod) and we share a whole community. So it's made the whole situation really challenging. After 7 months of little to no contact and essentially me isolating myself to let things settle (I live alone), I feel like Im ready to try being friends. Ideally to commiserate and laugh about all the absurdity in the world every now and again, but at least to be cordial since Id like to visit my friends. The thing is she's been really awkward the coupe times I've been around and has expressed that she doesn't know why, but it's just hard for her to be friends. Its a bit of a conundrum. I think there are still alot of strong feelings for both of us, but at least Im willing to play it cool given the situation. Any words of advice appreciated

Me exactly the same. The boy said he suddenly didn’t feel right to continue, and he cant be in any relationship atm. I think it’s genuine and we can’t force people who are emotionally unavailable and need the mental space to heal themselves from the trauma they have been through.

My suggestion is not even to go back to the relationship when the person goes back. because depression is reoccurring when it does occur again, their instinct is to push you away and that hurts. Of course this sounds selfish but we need to take cate of ourselves, think for ourselves first.

The dumper needs to feel the loss, you have to break their ego, it will take a long time, even years for them to understand and feel the pain. But no contact forever will hurt them sooner or later.
