The best thing to do after being ghosted is getting busy and not allow yourself to thinking what you did wrong, what happened etc. This behaviour is not normal and lack of communication is a clear indicator this person's got problems with themselves

People that ghost you are just cowards that are afraid of confrontation in my opinion. I never ghosted anyone. If the relationship was not going well I would have a sit down and tell them that I was not happy and that I would rather end things. Just ghosting someone is plainly disrespectful.

Even if its not working out I wouldn't do that , People like that usually like to be thought of as pure and good and they usually want your love /time faithfulness it reserve the right for themselves to do you dirty as hell in return , And if you ghosted them 110 percent of the time you can bet they would have a nuclear meltdown .

Depends on who you are ghosting, the duration of that relationship or friendship, and the reason you are ghosting someone. Some relationships lack balance or are toxic, and contrary to popular belief, you don’t owe anyone an explanation when redirecting your energy.

Being ghosted has seriously been one of the most emotionally painful things I've had to deal with. It's been five months since my ghosting and generally speaking I'm ok now. But the pain is still there, and it feels so deeply rooted. There are still times when I get deep feelings of sadness. I feel like I'm broken or damaged in some way. I'm just never going to be the same person I was before I got ghosted. Hard to explain but it's such a cruel thing to do to someone.

@@divyamane9065 So sorry. I know it's brutal. I wish there was an easy solution. I used to hope so much to hear back from her. Maybe we could fix things and move forward like it was just some big misunderstanding. But now I'm not sure. The practical side of me says forget her, she disrespected me big-time and she showed her true colors. My heart wants to be more forgiving. It tires me out. I don't know how long it's been since you were ghosted or what your situation is. I would encourage you to remain active. Get out there and take part in activities you like or find interesting. Things do get better with the passing of time. It's a slow gradual process but you will get better.

Feels like it’s worse than a breakup because you don’t know what happened, was it your fault? Were you not good enough? Did you not do enough? Is it over? Should you be supportive and stick around and wait for their depressive episode to cool off even though it’s been months? It’s extremely excruciating when you really love that person with all your heart. 😣

Same here. It's been a year now for me and the questions still plague me from time to time. Still dealing with sadness over it. Did I hurt her in some way I'm unaware of? Does she hate me? Fear me? Does she perhaps want to speak with me but she's afraid to contact me? But the ball is in her court and has been for a long time. The pragmatic part knows that no response IS a response. Bottom line is that she wants nothing to do with me. But my heart still can't understand why the person I knew did this to me. @@colefox2882

I disagree. Perhaps the person’s behaviour and actions have slowly become intolerable over time. You’ve told your “friend” time after time that these behaviours and actions won’t be tolerated, but they continue on and on. I just ghosted an ex after being good friends for 30 years! Despite my attempts to prevent it, the “friendship” was now toxic (well for me at least). After 30 years, I ghosted her, blocked her and never want to hear from her again. She had hundreds of chances to change or at least properly explain her actions, yet she never did. I definitely don’t see my actions as cowardly or evil, on the contrary.

@@bogan-slayer7469 That is not ghosting. Ghosting is when a person disappears without having a prior conversation with the person being ghosted. The person being ghosted has no idea what he or she did wrong. There was no indication that the ghoster was upset with the ghostee's behaviour. The ghoster acted as everything was fine and then made an instant decision to disappear without a word. What you are describing is going no contact.

@@marmackk No. Where did you get that definition? The usual definition is a sudden, unexpected and complete cessation of contact, where the person being ghosted did not imagine it coming. That’s ghosting. No contact is a technique used in an attempt to attract the other person’s attention and to possibly re-kindle the relationship. I have absolutely no desire to re-kindle the relationship or to attract attention. I’ve cut them off like an unwanted wart, ie, ghosted them.
@marmackk

@@bogan-slayer7469 And again cutting off contact with ghosting is usually done with the ghostee being given no indication of the ghoster having an issue with the ghostee. That is why ghosting hurts so much because there was no indication given that there was anything wrong with the relationship. 14 Year relationship here. Argument in text , dumped and blocked everywhere. Unbelievable. Haven't heard from her for a month. I don't care if she's with somebody else (which i dont know that for sure again dont care) it's just , how could after all this time I be disposed of like garbage? I tried to reach out a few times to reconcile with her. No luck. My last attempt for closure / before I completely walk out of this persons life for good (like they did to me already) was reaching out to her Dad. I was cool with her dad and he liked me. He Said he's going to talk to her maybe tomorrow or in a couple days then he'd reach out to me. That's where the situation stands. I'm not perfect but she's definitely not either. I just want some answers and not to feel like garbage. If we talked one last time, we could've put everything on the table. We didn't do that. The situation is just unreal to me and my mental health had been severely jeopardized in the last month.

It is hard but so true sometimes you have to get closure on your own. I was ghosted by a long time friend some I knew since grade school. This was right around the start of the pandemic and I honestly thought she died but later saw her in a news article so clearly alive. I had to accept that she didn't want to be friends anymore with no explanation. It's not like we argued or anything just out of nowhere no communication. Considering how long we knew we each other if she needed a break or even thought we weren't compatible as friends she could have texted me if she didn't want to talk and I would've understood. But I'm finally over it but I am reluctant to invest in relationships of any kind because I wonder about being ghosted again.

I've never been ghosted by a guy (I don't really ever date) or a younger person that I can remember. The last few people that ghosted me are actually middle-aged women. And I don't consider myself someone that's overbearing or insisting on things. It'd be a text to ask about doing lunch because this old friend I ran into at the store said that we should or gifting a friend I went to lunch with a talked for hours a nice face cream and then asking her how she liked it. Or reaching out to someone that I thought of and haven't seen in years and that person responding once, asking me about my life, and then ghosting me once I tell her about my life and ask her a little more about her kids, etc. So, it goes to show that yes, ghosting has become a thing that people just do I guess.

Which was expected, as I had read between the lines by then. Still shocked and amazed by her behavior, and how people piss friends away like it's nothing -- although I will say she was in her 20s -- so different generation. She also started leaning towards the WOKE movement and thought people of color should have special privileges -- so perhaps it was for the best.

The second ghost is the worst. When you follow up and ask if everything is ok and they STILL don't respond. Then you know it is deliberate. This is on her my dear. It is incredibly unkind to not respond the second time. At that point she should put her big girl pants on and let you know why she is not responding. At least give you the respect of closure. You have to be a very selfish and cruel person that when someone reaches out a second time and it is clearly hurting them that they were ghosted to continue with the silent treatment. What an arse. Be kind to yourself and don't spend another minute worrying about such a person.

Friend of mine that liked me and wanted to see me ghosted me after she was sick. Saw her all over fb commenting her friends and don’t wanna talk to me I guess. She told me she’s been sick and I thought it was about her parents not being around anymore and I guess she’s losing interest.

Everyone likes to throw the word coward around to justify to themselves why someone stopped talking to them, at what point do people stop and self-reflect and ask themselves what they may have done to yield that behavior. While often times it is the wrong thing to do, especially if that person has asked you what's going on and you lie about it, but sometimes people get in return what they put out. Creating false narratives to tell yourself you did nothing wrong can be equally if not more harmful than ghosting, but let's be honest, a lot of people disrespect or neglect people who would go out their way for them for no real reason, then wonder why there friendships fail or communication stops. Accountability matters. It's not always the other person's fault.

Is it reasonable to respond to a ghoster that you wish them all of the best, that you will always be happy for them, and thank them for the wonderful times you had together? And then followed my more anguish of ghosting?

Why is the common response to pull away/ or deny-deflect-defend when someone develops deep feelings that are not conducive to the box they put you in? i.e "friendzone"?

What about ghosting a friend when the friendship has just fizzled out? Sometimes its just time to step away from a friend. Telling them why would just hurt them. Its seems like too much drama to tell them the reasons, so I just faded out. I do not feel like I owe an explanation.

I agree 100%. I just ghosted an ex-girlfriend who I’d remained good friends with for 30 years after. Some things become toxic and are not worth keeping alive or making excuses for. It wasn’t easy to do, but it was the best thing to do. Why drag out the inevitable with apologies and explanations? Time is too precious now. Cut it and move on.

This person only likes my posts now. We had an open relationship and I was open about seeing another person again who he's even met. I have a girlfriend as well. Not sure why he'd pull back suddenly. He hasn't even looked at my last pretty innocent message.

I beg to differ, Susan. If you are an acquaintance/college friend/high school friend and you never make plans to meetup with them atleast once in a year, they don't owe you constant communication. It is unfair to the other person who's getting this sort of online relationship. People have developed these weird ghosting tendencies coz like in the old days when a relationship's time comes,it doesn't end / fade in this social media era. It just get dragged on endlessly without either of the parties making an effort to connect outside of texting. If it's a old friend that has suddenly gone silent, and if you really want them in your life, you step up and make plans to meet up or something before deeming them a bad person. Sometimes they can just be hopeless and overwhelmed coz basically they just have a "ghost" version of the friendship you had but with same responsibilities. Better yet, if you don't want to do that, stick to being a low maintenance online relationship, instead of constant texting maybe go for emails once in a while or something like that. Also, we need to bring back emails/letters.

I beg to differ Ana.,Its dating relationships Susan is referring to. I’ve had exactly what she’s referring to happen. This time I had dating tools at my disposal from Susan and a couple of other coaches I also respect. I was so ahead of the game I saw what he was doing and stepped up and called him out then spun him on his heels. I took my power back. He ghosted me prior to this then he came back after an absence. Because he’s cocky and arrogant enough sadly
