I think the man either had a health problem or more of an infection, the dog chewed it off in the mans sleep as he could not feel his foot due to the infection/problem. If the dog had not had done that, it was said the problem/infection would have gone to his legs, hence why he would have needed the amputation. Dogs really are mans best friend:)

24 hours Greggs is indeed a thing in Newcastle. The one opposite the train station is 24 hours and has a bouncer at the weekends which is pretty sad. As someone who would do 11pm shifts at one of the hotels near by and then be back at 6:45 the next morning that Greggs was my saviour.
