I feel like that with supercars they are designed around the engine and transmission, and is fairly easy to work on because of that, but regular cars have engines and such crammed into a pre designed body.

Yeah a lot of people get iffy when they hear "Engine out service" But a lot of these cars are designed so you drop the whole cradle super easily, do the work then just put it all back in as an assembly.

Wizard, you hit the nail on the head, "Keep an open mind". Nothing designed by man (few exceptions), cannot be repaired. I worked in an emissions test lab where we assisted Weber with EPA compliance of their EFI systems. Very primitive, used a breadboard with pot resistors and an oscilloscope to set injector pulse width and ignition timing. No software, yet. I also pulled a cylinder head on a Ferrari 512 BB that had a factory porosity. It was gray market car, so Ferrari didn't know anything about the work. Fun times. Now I'm into experimental aircraft. Good times. Thank you for the videos, and please keep them coming 🏁👍🏻.

Watching you fight that Camaro to drop its tank took me back to a '97 Lesabre I owned some years back. When the fuel pump went bad, I wasn't about to try to drop the tank, so I cut an access hole in the trunk floor. Upon reassembly I used that shiny metal tape that people use to make exhaust systems sound better. Last year I had to change the fuel pump on my 2000 Lesabre. It was nice to see a factory access plate in place.

David you were much faster on that problem than i would have been. I was thinking fuel air sensors for some reason. Or even clogged fuel injectors. So you were very efficient on this repair. I would consider an email to your current customers to get any car maintainance caught up.. offer car pick up and return. You could easily find someone out of work to help drive someone around to pick up cars. Not suggesting some food server pick up expensive cars. This could give you a good month or 2 of service work at a time you need it. Scott

This Ferrari is a whole lot like the Porsche 928, which has it's LH injection and EZK/F ignition modules in the passenger footwell, along with the fuse and relay panel behind a board. On the 928, there is one of each computer, and that board is a piece of plywood, not plastic. This video is great in that it shows a mechanic being a mechanic and trying to figure out a problem rather than just throw parts at the issue and run up the bill, like a lot of cheap shit shops/dealerships want to do. Keep up the good work Wizard! As to the whole Coronavirus thing, I was going to change the coolant on my '14 Cayman S myself, but to do it right I need to buy a small air compressor to create vacuum in the system to remove air pockets. I can get a small compressor from Northern/Harbor Freight for $29; Instead I think I'm going to give the local south Florida shop that specializes in Porsche's called Gulf Performance some business. [I'm going to ask him to show me how to do it, of course]

Realy liked the fact you admitted it took you three hours to find the problem. Finding what is wrong can sometimes take twice as long as the repair. Customers often think it is always the other way round "wait a minute, four hours to change a fuel pump". Mind you. Cleaning out the whole fuel system is going to take a chunk of time in the shop.

Ferrari and Maserati often share the exact same parts, and the Maserati labeled parts are usually priced considerably less than the Ferrari ones. Naturally, the shared parts don’t share the same part numbers, so that’s always a fun rabbit-hole to go down trying to cross reference part numbers… I wonder which Maserati model shares those exact same fuel pumps. Thanks to you both, Mr. and Mrs. Wizard, for the high quality informative videos.

One more thing... I had a 98 and then a 99 trans am. For the fuel pump an easy way to get it is to just cut a trap door in the trunk and the fuel pump is right there. No need to drop the tank or anything. I know that's not the "proper" way to do it but it save a lot of time

Excellent video Wizard! the strangest code: None Ford Escape 03 V6: No power, Flashing CEL while driving, when idling no CEL & no codes, it really felt like torque converter shudder, Live data shows running a little bit lean, no vacuum leaks, good fuel presure in rail, flow in specs on injector test flow. So maybe was missfiring & O2 sensors only measure oxigen & not the fuel, & cuz misfiring, non-burnt oxigen got to O2 sensors reading lean. Changed sparkplugs & COP coils & problem Solved!! Again, excellent video Wizard, cheers from Cancún!

One of the things I forgot to ask the new mechanic was if they only go off codes. He seemed to be an honest mechanic. When he called me to explain the issues and the cost. He said it might be a catalytic converter problem but I don't think it is. We're going to go through all the other issues.... There was a lot of maintenance to do. I had been driving it since I bought it. In addition to two trips up Louisiana from Wisconsin. A lot of driving to Chicago and back to Milwaukee. And so from that I felt good about leaving it in his hands. I put 742 miles on after I got it back. Went on a little vacation. Ran fine mostly. But about the second day I got it back. Check engine was back on. Haven't had time to take it to him. It's again the catalytic converter code. So idk what's up with that. The other day it started doing this thing where if you get up to around 45 quick it makes this Jake break sound, or breaking with the engine sound in a manual. Just a very brief rev up sound in addition to the engine. Otherwise it's running. I call this car this quirkiest car I've ever own. There's always some odd new problem. Like not the cars fault but on vacation I locked the doors and my cheapo key Fab had been having issues, or was it the car security. I had found a way to make it work. Well our first stop locked the car went do some stuff an when we got back key Fab wouldn't work 😂 so long story short it was the key Fab. I need to find or find out if this mechanic doesn't just go off codes. I hate that. Like drive it, find problems.

Way to many newer mechanics depend to much on the stupid scan tool. I come from the era of OBD1 and carbs. Tuning was with a screw driver on a Holly card or Edlebrock Quadrajet 4 barrel. Could also change jets on the carb. Troubleshooting was done by sight, sound, and smell. And yes I can still work on most modern vehicles and no I'm not ASE certified, just a shade tree mechanic who has rebuilt an engine or 2 and modified an engine or 2 in his prime. Currently working on nodding my 04 TSX. Yup, 45 and it still runs in my veins. Never going to stop lol.

Pretty dang close to what happens to every Jeep TJ Wrangler after they hit 85k to 120k miles. I've done a bunch of them, same symptom, same diagnosis by putting a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. Much harder to fix, have to drop the tank, and it never fails they bring it to you with a full tank.

What an absolutely gorgeous automobile! And a good example of why you really need to be very well heeled to own one of these Italian exotics.

I did a Camaro pump once by cutting a hole in the floor to reach it a making a little hatch so it's easy to access now. If I was in a shop instead of a driveway I'd probably have removed the rear end though. The Camaro was my dads and the hole was his idea so I went with it and it works well.

Great content Wizard! I’m sure this has been suggested, but you should do follow up episodes with an in car drive once these cars are repaired! That would be awesome! Great channel!

I work on subaru's all day long and probably the craziest code i get on a regular basis is a P000A/P000B basically vvt cam timing issues. And that is thanks to higher oil change intervals with too much carbon in the oil gumming up the intake vvt cam pulley's. The most simple but turned out to be crazy code was a P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Malfunction". You would think its a crank sensor issue or circuit problem maybe even a timing chain/belt issue. But you would be wrong in this case. Cylinders 2 and 4's connecting rods were bent in such a way the engine ran just SOO poor causing the P0335 and P0300. I later found out that the car had been modded heavy at one point and had seen 36psi on boost on the stock engine! The car was a 2015 STi so of course it has been modded.

Watching this in January of 2022 it's interesting to see how we were all talking back in the very early days of Covid 19. "Hopefully it's just a few weeks. I hope it's not more than that." Cam you imagine what you would have said if someone told you in March of 2020 that we'll still be wearing surgical masks every where we go in 2022?

Nice, David! The engine is not too dissimilar than my 1990 750iL. Two of everything.

I've got the "poor man's Ferrari" (an Alfa Romeo) it's 18 years old and if something stops working I don't worry because it's not broken I'll tell the car off and it'll start working again, it's silly little things but mechanically the rep they have for unreliability is bullshit it's a great little car. Oh and I love the intake roar and lightning fast steering 😊

Can you believe this? I looked it up: The 550 Maranello has a fuel tank made of cast aluminum sections that are welded together, and the openings for the fuel pumps are on the VERTICAL side of the tank! I wonder how many mechanics have accidently pulled open those panels with fuel in the tank....And flooded the trunk with gasoline~?
An Unknown Ending💪
