Hey. Bare with me, longish comment. I don’t have any real rare, expensive albums like you showed, but I do have a story regarding my most expensive. UK pressing of unknown pleasures. Guy puts on a local ad to sell the album for $25. I got lucky cause the ad had just been put up. I took it. When we were figuring out the details he asked if I wanted UK copy of closer. $25 as well. Took him up on the offer. When I picked them up they were both mint first pressings. Turns out the guy lived in London in late 70’s early 80’s and picked them up when they first came out. I thought I’d got a steal of a deal so I was happy. A few months later I was telling a friend and he said imagine if it was the first UK copy that when you hold it to a light it shows a red tint. Got home and sure enough it was that variant. Medium value about $300. Love your channel. Keep it up.

Rarest record in my collection is an original press of Ode to Quetzalcoatl by Dave Bixby. I found it in a Kansas thrift store for like $2. I had it in my collection for around a year until I looked it up online and saw that perfect copies have sold for over 1k. Apparently 500 copies were pressed and sold to fund a cult the artist had fallen in with after burning himself out on LSD in the 60s. There's a short documentary on KZbin about the album. Although I was a broke college student, I never sold it and it's my favorite record in my collection!

I had quite a similar experience back in the 70s in a (straight/lol) bookstore in Berkeley. I caught sight of a rack full of underground comix that had obviously never aroused any desire in that bookstore's customers. The books had the original price tags on them (mostly 50 cents). I bought them all and the people there were so happy to finally get rid of their shelf warmers, not knowing that the books were sold meanwhile each of them for several dozen dollars. The best of them was "Slow Death #1" which was 50 cents as well - however "outside" it was sold for 50 dollars/LOL!

I checked out the Trevor Dandy tune and yep it's awesome. I been digging through my collection trying to think of stuff you may not have heard. One that I forgot about is Rachel Sweet - "It's so different here" from the album "Fool Around". It was sampled by the Beatnuts a long time ago and it's great! Rest of the album not so great lol. The most mind-blowing sample I found so far routing through my 7" singles has to be Labi Siffre - "I got the...". When the Eminem break kicks in half way through the track it's quite something, I don't have the LP but it's off "Remember My Song" (1975). I wish Discogs had a section for records without covers, a section for covers with no records and maybe a section for signed items. It would be so much more useful if they did that! Take it easy dude!!!!

Just curious if any of these ring a bell. Henry Gross: “Plug Me Into Something”, Trapeze: “YouAre The Music We Are The Band” , Trapeze: “Hot Wire” , or a band Called “Baby” from the texas panhandle i do believe? All these were early 70’s just good ol rock and roll around about the same time as the first rush album and aerosmith “Get Your Wings” era!

OK Dylan, I just listened to The Dog That Bit People all the way through...normally, this early 70's stuff doesn't do too much for me, but damn...this really resonated with me. It's beautiful. It's fantastic. There's serious talent behind it. Everything about it is absolutely phenomenal. I can see why this is a desirable record. It's fan-friggin-tastic! I may have to buy that German reissue from 2012 asap. Sometimes you only get the chance to make one artistic statement, and fi so, if this is the one you get to make...amazing.

One thing I would be interested to see is a discussion of your rare records that have been reissued and maybe if they're available. Some of these titles I'd be interested to get in my collection, but I don't need to have the OP of it. I'm assuming that in some cases you are familiar with the reissues. I totally slept on that reissue of No Rest for the Wicked by Truth and Janey, I wish Rockadrome would do another run of them.

Fresh Maggots - s/t, RCA Victor. 6. Czar - s/t, Fontana. 5. The Human Beast - Volume One, Decca (Black rimmed sleeve). 4. Andwella's Dream - Love and Poetry, CBS. 3. July - s/t, Major Minor. 2. Pussy - Pussy Plays, Morgan Bluetown. 1. Room - Pre-flight, Deram. There were other contenders for the list such as The Parlour Band, Spring, Comus, Sam Gopal, Cressida, etc etc. Seems to be mostly UK stuff from around 67 to 72 that I have.

Dillion serious question, are these albums rare because the music and the musicians make it a great album or is it the fact there was only a limited amount that were even pressed to begin with? I understand when a first pressing of a Columbia or Atlantic label is valuable but when only 300 is pressed it seems that less people even get to hear it.

These videos are fascinating, even though I own ZERO records that are worth anything. The rarest ones I have (and by rare I mean NOT rare) are probably Blondie's first album on Private Stock that I bought new at JC Penney's of all places when it came out when I was 16 and I had no idea who Blondie even was, but I was smitten by that cover photograph. I guess it might be worth a little bit because I took good care of it all these years, but I could never sell it because I'm still in love with that album. The other one I don't see around much anymore is ZZ Top's "Tejas" on London. Likewise, I'm still in love with that album as well, so I'm hanging on. I know neither of those albums is worth much, but it's still interesting to me finding out about all these variations that I had no idea about, and it's crazy to me when I find out what some folks are apparently willing to pay. I'm not a collector, and I'm glad I'm not, because if I were, I'd be broke.

My mum has always told me that her brother had an original copy of David Bowie's first album. I never believed her because she does not know about records and I thought she was just confusing it with Space Oddity, but this week she described the cover, said she remembered it from being a child in the 60s and she is 100% sure he had it. I looked into finding it but sadly it got water damaged and thrown away a long time ago. ) :

I like the Placebo records, but nowhere near as much as Marc Moulin's solo record, SAM SUFFY, from 1975, worth many hundreds of dollars and rarely turns up anymore - *that's* a grail for me. I used to have the 90's UK vinyl reissue, and even that goes for $40+ now. Unbelievable jazz-funk - "Tohubohu" gets my vote for Dopest Song Of All Time.

top three valuable/rare albums I've picked up are Bill Evans "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" first press MONO - bought it for $1.07 and I sold it for a lot, lot more (it paid for the complete refurbishment of my 1978 ROTEL turntable)... and Townes Van Zandt (S/T) on Poppy that you now have and Charles Manson's "LIE" that is also in your collection. I also got an original copy of "The Sacred Mushroom." Sold it to a guy in Italy and got a re-issue - the re-issue pretty much looks and sounds just the the original copy. I also snagged a copy of Nick Drakes "Bryter Layter" first US pressing on Antilles for less than $15 (including shipping and tax) - the vinyl is NM and the cover is VG++. The eBay listing said NIKE DRAKE LP and the description said NIKE DRAKE LP - I guess nobody was looking for a pair of NIKES in the vinyl record section and Drake fans didn't know what it was. Fun stuff. Good times.

It gets tedious when people constantly come out with the old quote 'it's only worth money because it's rare... musically it's rubbish'. There are so many rare records that contain some of the best music ever made. I wish they had been pressed in the hundreds of thousands as I'd rather pay $20 for every record I crave rather than $500! Your copy of The Dog That Bit People does look stunning. That cover is fragile as you know. Along with the Locomotive you need to get Norman Haines Band as well for the holy trinity. Very cool top 10 Dillon.

You have to do it from desktop view. You can’t do it from the app if you have an iPhone, but you can go to the webpage and go to the bottom where it says “desktop view” and at the top it’ll have a bar that says low, medium, high, artist, all that and you can click on that to filter however you want

Never really considered selling. They asked me what I would give and I have not spoke to them since. Of course i would want to see it and listen to it before I would make an offer. I think most of my 70s blues rock has come from this same collection.

Interesting that all of these, in addition to being rare, are mostly obscure records. There are many, many more valuable records by major artists out there. I guess those by obscure artists would be more likely to turn up due to the fact that most people have never heard of them.

I've rarely found a rare and obscure album that I really liked. The problem is that they are derivative and the music is not even close to being on par with the cost. I listened to the Sandstone album: the first track is based on Scarborough Fair, the second on Love Street by The Doors, the third on Monday Monday by the Mamas and Papa's. People generally buy rare records for emotional reasons first, the music second.
@noblerecords
@noblerecords 3 жыл бұрын
All great music is derivative of something. That’s a very general statement based on 3 songs you heard. Go listen to Randy Holden Population II. It’s derivative of nothing, totally original. Many times popular music is derivative of obscure music, popular musicians are notorious for stealing from small time acts.
@lupcokotevski2907
@lupcokotevski2907 3 жыл бұрын
@@noblerecords I listened to the whole album. I've heard the Randy album back when you first showed it. There's good derivative and dull derivative, and plagiarism and then there's something new with identifiable influences, like Astral Weeks. Of course it all ultimately personal taste and discovery is fun even if you don't like what you discover - it also emotionally satisfies curiosity. But there is a likely obvious reason why many artists only made one album.
