Yeah, he did great in this movie and it seemed believable. The night time invasion scene was top notch mayhem, even better than John Wick's. It is a little less smooth and precise, but he is brutal. John Wick doesn't monologue to you after killing everybody as you bleed out. The last words you get to hear is a guy complaining about his life. Nobody is a very scary man and Bob played that so subtly under the comedy of the situation.

@@jerimypratt6194 Most people don't actually know how to fight as a group. Unless premeditated, what you're most likely going to get is a series of 1 on 1s or 1 on 2s, rather than an actual 1 v 5. The place you're fighting in also has a great influence on this, with a narrow corridor or a bus like in this scene making for a significantly easier time managing the number disadvantage. Old Boy's corridor scene is another great example of how this kind of fight would probably go (Though admitedly stylized). I wouldn't necesarily call it "realistic" in its truest sense, but I think it is fine enough as is to make for a more grounded One Man Army trope, I think? Just some quick thoughts on it, haven't actually watched the movie.
@rawwad3 жыл бұрын
Its more realistic than other hollywood movies, but far from real brawl. Have you even seen real fight? People who are fighting are not screaming like that, they are breathing and throwing punches, they have no time to scream like f*cking wolverine, in real fight there is lot of clothes grabbing, pushing, people pumped with adrenaline are not falling on ground after one punch -_- and sitting on ground few second and waiting for their turn, nonsense. But its very cool choreography for the movie, the shots are readable, you see what is happening, that is the most important in scenes like this.

Bob Odenkirk is a class act. I like that this is a messy fight scene, you know, it's not just the 'good guy' flaunting invincibility; he's taking punches and taking the hits. Neat scene.
@axismundi21423 жыл бұрын
well put, cheers
@PygmalionFaciebat3 жыл бұрын
Sorry but : No ... Just simply no ;) This stupid scenestill shows invincibility. Sure, he moans a lot and stuff like that. And yes, he bleeds, when he is stabbed 2983578202 million times in the side, leg, etc . And yes, he says 'ouch' when he gets sufficient hits from 5-6 guys, while in real fights (regardless wether its professional world-champ boxing, or street fights of few 10 year olds) after maximum of 2 sufficient hits (mostly after one sufficient hit) the opponent lays on the concrete - and he STAYS on the concrete (if he isnt professional, he would even be unconscious in the most cases). So... sorry but no - no - no ;) I saw Superman- and Spiderman-fights who was more realistic than this bus-fight, where in a nice old cowboy-salon-movie of the 60s every opponent waits for his turn, and then punches to the 'hero' ... Besides that: it was the most unrealistic handling of knifes ever (meaning the ''hero'' and the bad guys ... You dont stab once and think ''take that you b*stard'' , and thats it. You keep your knife, and you even doesnt stab, but slice/cut (nearly every real footage of knife-work is: cutting/slicing ) for a reason : stabbing usually needs a lot of more precision against a fast MOVING object (here in this scene the guys , AND the hero waits for the 1-2 seconds and holds still, to get stabbed). Cutting is a move which firstly : hurts anything in the trajectory ...therefore needs much less precision ... secondly it doesnt get stuck easy in the flesh (more probability to use the knife further) - because: blood is also very slippery - and if you stab , and the knife stucks in the other, its probably your last shot on that, because the knife slips out of your hand (remember: where there is blood its also very slippery). The blood lose, for the Hero, AND the bad guys, even without damaged big arteries, are tremendous - and even if its not deadly - its usually enough after 1-2 minutes (even with adrenalin rush) , that you lose your blood pressure. Losing blood pressure doesnt only mean ''ow i walk a bit like a cripple'' (like most movies does after a fight) - no ,it means: you are about losing consciousness. And NO its not about 'staying strong' at this point. Without blood pressure, there is no oxygene for the brain. Without oxygene for the brain you can be the bravest and strongest badass man on the world - and you still lose consciousness. You cant collect yourself, like the guy in this scene, and think ''ok, i'm injured, stabbed million times but i go for a second round...moun a bit... and then collect myself, and make a blood-rush-trip'' ... Thats just doesnt how the real world works. Thats how fairytails work. Oh and yes, if you want to come to me with MMA-fights as argument. Yes, they stand for a lot of minutes. But they dont have any stabwounds. Even no non-lethal-stab-wounds. And even at MMA the fight is over after 2 sufficient hits - tops. And no , when i mean ''sufficient'' hits, i dont mean: hits which are counted as ''points''. I mean sufficient hits.

@@speakfreelymag I don't disagree that it's unrealistic. I was only talking about the knife part. Hollywood fights are rarely realistic. ESPECIALLY one vs multiple. But I chalk up the part about them "standing and waiting" to there only being so much room in a bus aisle. No more than 2 wide. That's probably why they wrote the scene on a bus (shrugs). What do you mean by the fight has no rhythm? What is a rhythmic fight? Fights are chaotic by their nature. So I don't really get why that bothered you. To me, the less "rhythmic", the more chaotic a fight scene is, the better. The 3 guys being pushed were by a combo of the guy Hutch was fighting pushing him into them, and Hutch pushing them away from him with his momentum as he fell backward. Again, probably not what you'd see irl, but it's not bad enough I'd call it terrible. Seen much, MUCH worse. It's a good flick overall. And that's coming from someone who can't stand cheese of any sort. Matter of fact, I stopped watching one called The Marksman with Liam Neeson in it about 3/4 through because I couldn't stand not one more bit of cheese. The look he gives the guy who tries to reload the gun at 3:24 is priceless. It's like, well, sh*t. I wasn't going to, but if you're going to make me...

I like how ever since Oldboy there’s been a movement to emphasize the sloppiness and exhaustion of fighting.

I love that he progressively remembers his years of training and experience with each break they take when he eventually walks back in the bus he shows his true skill.

I love this scene. No music, just dialogue and sfx until the very end to carry out the tension. I love how he takes just as much hits at the other guys, shows that he's a bit late in the game but it's still his game and he knows how to play it better than anyone else even if he's a little rusty. I also love how this is the first real glimpse we get of his ruthlessness in combat. It's all built up and executed perfectly.

Also, the fact that everybody takes the time to actually *feel* their injuries like, "My God, he broke my nose," "My teeth are broken." Only thing I'd gripe about would be if someone had just went through a glass window, they'd be digging out shards the rest of the night, but other than that, what's not to enjoy? 👍
