These ALL affect tune of your bow! Every bow has its own string angles when it's at full draw. Sometimes these angles affect the positioning of the bow set up and your compatibility with that set up. In this video I show you how the axle to axle length, brace height, cam system and your draw length factor into your bows triangle at full draw. How you set up your bow based on that triangle is absolutely imperative. I go through through several factors that are directly related to your nocking point positions and why those fractions of a millimeter can decide how well or poorly you perform with your bow and arrow.

Love this video! We've been including string angle measurements in all of our bow reviews for 2024, specifically because it can be so helpful in ensuring that a bow "fits" the archery at full draw. Interesting also to consider that a larger string angle can also move the peep closer to your face and make the aperture in your peep smaller, therefore letting less light in through the peep. Then again, that same larger string angle can also make it much easier to keep a vertical neck posture and find your reference points at full draw - everything is a tradeoff!

It's a good idea with an arrow without a tip, I wouldn't have thought of it myself. It is good to have such an arrow and check the nockpoint for pinch from time to time with this arrow.

I’ve done some testing with nock pinch and what I’ve found is as long as it’s not enough pinch to bring the arrow off the rest at all it didn’t give me any issues. Would shoot barehafts at 80-100 yards with the same consistency even with some pinch. With that said I’m also shooting 33 inch bows at 27.5 inches which isn’t going to apply nearly as much pinch as guys like yourself

Agreed, as long as the arrow isn't lifting during your draw, and your paper tune is good, whatever nock pinch you may or may not have is inconsequential

So much to learn. If the amount of "pinch" is off should I change the nocks (I didn't realize there were those differences) or have the nock/d-loop re-tied? At least I am finding more excuses to use for why I don't shoot well!

Lol, it's all within reason, there's a margin of error, the biggest thing you'll notice is that your arrow will lift up on it's own during your draw cycle if there's too much pinch, which can be hard to see if you use a whisker biscuit. Otherwise if it's good through paper and consistent you are good to go.

I like short ATA bows and have been fighting this as well I now do what you have shown and it works great I know if I have nock pinch after a while my center serving is bad and have to redo it...

Great video with tips and facts….question:…don’t beat me up guys as I am just asking…but John…could a guy use A draw board and pull the bow back and at that point check the nock pinch?…how do you think a guy could best do that if that’s a way to test/set draw loops to set for no nock pinch…?…thanks guys😊

A broader angle can be called more obtuse and a sharper angle can be referred to as more acute. Despite them meaning more or less than 90 degrees respectively

Is there a Prime angle to shoot? for example if my draw length is 30" would a axle to axle that matches give a better angle to shoot(since it would make an even triangle). Or is that too sharp of an angle? If so what would that prime angle be?

so i have a 26.5" in draw. Would I benefit from a long axle to axle bow? I am trying to get as much speed as possible. Comparing lets say the same bow, but one has a 30 ATA and a 34ATA bow, which one would i be better of shooting if speed was the number one priority. Thanks in Advance. appreciate all the info you provide.

Shorter ATA bows tend to be faster. A longer ATA bow would help reduce hand torque and should hold on target a little better though.

I just file my nocks or spread or hone my nocks so they are absolutely perfect, especially if my nock points or d loop pull together to much .
