Absolutely! What a great guy. He didn't even know that we were going to be filming or that we did KZbin videos. That came up after the fact. He just was genuinely upset that we came from so far and weren't able to race. And he did not want to see us race on the street... Even though that probably would have been a good segment of the video. Lol. Much better on the track though
@joehughes7952
@joehughes7952 10 ай бұрын
@NoNonsenseKnowHow "Keeping it off the streets" is good P.R., but making sure y'all got track time is just good business. The tech's comment (as relayed by 3rd party) about not liking these cars /events rubbed me wrong. It's these events that generate revenue for the owner. Let him decide who should or shouldn't be on his track and stick to arbitrarily passing cars or not. I get it that these garbage scows have a high-probability of generating track clean-up and that's a hassle, but the owner has decided it's in his best interest. Our team (and many others) have been held long after events, tearing our cars apart to satisfy scrutineering, and I have a special resentment for techs.....small people with a bit of (perceived) power. Ok, rant over. I'm glad the cars got on-track. It was good content.

One way in which I think he's being too European is that the Ford 200 in Gail is a tough engine with a small carburetor and throttle plate, which should allow him to cruise down the interstate at continuous full throttle. The American combination of heavy cast iron, small carbs and ports, and mild cams allows for this, and is also why American engines can be easily modified to produce far more power than they do from the factory. Chris knows this, so I don't know why he is hesitating to put Gail's pedal to the metal on the highway, as I hear Fiats cannot do. Though a bottle of conduction boosting coolant additive might help, though I also hear plain (distilled) water conducts better than glycol in summer heat.

I am rebuilding a 1967 Mustang Coupe in the Netherlands. A 302 with a T5 gearbox and a Mustang II front conversion with disks and coil overs. Wimbledon white paint, blue Deluxe Interior and a set of American Torque Thrust rims. So I can relate a bit to the Fox body but love the older designs 👀⚡️👍

I grew up in a small small town right across the bridge from you, Florence Twp, NJ.. anyway, back in the 90s my school band director had an 89 Fox Body, GT convertible 5.0. She LOVES (even still) that car!! Well, I never drove it in high school, just never had the chance (we are a very very small school district so all the teachers and students knew each other back then) The town has grown a LOT since then, they sold out all the land in the country and put in hundreds of homes (NY moved down here, yuck) anyway.. about 5 years ago my old music teacher (marching band director and all 1 lady for the whole school district, again very small town) well, she gave me her Mustang for a few months, she was so disappointed over the years, a few mechanics 'mechanics' hacked through that car, did it some disservices, for sure.. anyway she let me take it and I did all new ignition, hotter coil, bigger alternator, thicker battery cables, new driveshaft (hers was bent somehow and weighed a TON) new high aluminum radiator, heater core.. the whole nine yards.. anyway that was like the coolest thing that's ever happened to me I think when it comes to old times coming back to you in your 40s.. : )

In '88, I toured the Ford engine plant in Brook Park, Ohio. They were making the 5.0 V8 at the time. I watched the process and saw a guy do the first 'hot start' on the newly manufactured engine. It jumped around on chains like a caged animal. Now, I'm seeing those engines in these old, classic cars. Glad you had one and now a second one. Best!

That directional light that so amused Jen is what they call a MAP LIGHT! Maps used to be made out of paper and folded up. People kept them in the glove compartment. Sometimes the driver could need help finding the best route to a location, maybe just the best route to a street locally, but it's nighttime. What to do? Pull out your map, direct the map light onto it, and find the necessary directions. REPEAT AS NECESSARY along the way! Old school manuvering like in the good ol' days. ;-)

Was pretty cool seeing so many people from other channels I am subbed to. Just subbed Travis's channel a couple of weeks ago. Him and his Dad do good work and they have a ton of really good content on their channel. Nice to see Jen getting the hang of a stick. I learned how to drive in a '67 Chevy pickup with a 3 on the tree and a 327 under the hood at the age of 13. A friend of mine's Dad's farm truck/vehicle. Good times!!!! My wife was also born and raised driving a stick. She loves them as much as I do. Kind of bummed when her 2014 Chevy Cruze with a 6 speed got rear ended so she moved up to a Malibu but they didn't offer a stick. But she got the Premier with a 2.0L turbo and we really like it.

Worked in the autoglass industry delivering glass and installation accessories for a couple years around 10 years ago, Fuyao glass is decent, PGW is some of the best, but it comes out of a Chinese factory too. Pilkington is hit or miss, Safelite could be a house brand made by any one of varying quality Chinese brands, or they could give you a windshield sourced from someone else if they can't find it. There's only about three glass manufacturers, I can't remember the name of the other two, one of them makes PGW's glass and sells it under their own brand, though the PGW branded stuff is the best because they keep a closer eye on quality. Fuyao is the only Chinese glass that I haven't seen delaminate rapidly before it even gets installed. Just my two cents, glad y'all had a fun road trip.

As you end your video Chris I understand you, according to Jen, have a 'thing' for trains. So it's not lost on you when I speak of the horn on those engines. I'm about 15 miles from the 'BNSF' and AMTRAK rail line in a valley here in Arizona. The track runs on the east side of this valley golden, abutting the Hualapia Mountain range. And when the engineer blows the horn on a quiet night to warn cattle or vehicles at crossings of its approach, I can hear it way over here on the eastern side of the valley. I also can hear the rumble of those mighty diesel engines as they roll along so far away from my home here on the western side of the valley. I reside on historic route 66, a.k.a. Oatman Hwy ajacent the Black Mountain where mining is still ongoing. I believe you may have heard of the tourist town of Oatman with its errant local celebrity donkeys roam the main street (State Route 66). Now all of that intro was to explain that when you're near the track as the engineer blasts so loudly its deafening horn, you jump out of your bed and even your skin. I'm sure I don't need to explain just how loud those horn blasts are to you Chris. I nick named the 'BNSF' as the "Blasted Noisey Son of a Female" (BNSF) when I lived 300 yards from the track. Every now and then the engineer found reason enough to wake up the tiny RV Park where I was staying back then. Much happier now 15 miles from all the toxic materials hauled in the tanks on that route. Prevailing wind normally would also be helpful in my current location.... IF

Great episode, love your road trips. The look on your face suggested you really enjoyed that drag race. I cant get over your enthusiasm when you find an old car. I'm not kidding I wouldn't keep chickens in most of them, I wouldn't even look at them (Apart from the Torino) But you not only get them going you actually drive them, incredible. I suppose it helps if you know what you're doing, and as far as motor mechanics goes, I don't. So it's nice to watch someone who does. I'm going to watch Jens vid now. Keep em comming.

i truly believe if someone opened more tracks for folks to hoon on maybe we wouldn't have the street racing as much, we simply need a place to play, 4x4's have offroad parks open all the time basically but tracks seem to not always be available for normal people. you have to have a place to enjoy our cars beyond putting everyone at risk while doing it. just my 2 cents. I know street racing will always be a thing just wish I could take my car to the track and do burnouts and have fun on the regular without the risks of a felonies and hurting people. cheers friends.

School buddy of mine had one of these fox bodies, he'd put her in neutral while we were cruising down the road, shut off the engine, then restart, which created a nice BOOM. He's passed away years ago in an accident so thinking about it brings a smile to my face and brings his memory back.

First thing first: I absolutely love your positive attitude towards mechanical breakdowns. You just fix ‘‘em and don’t sweat it. Also love your immediate diagnosis whenever vehicles act up. Oh, and Gus is the reason I watch these videos. 😅

Beautiful video all around. I lived in Phoenix for 11 years, and these desert adventures are particularly compelling for me. A lot of people don't get/love the desert, but for the people who do, your videos capture the experience of it vividly. The shot of Gail the Snail sitting in the shade of that auto parts store so you can work on it is quintessential desert living. Also, having grown up in NY with Pennsylvania relatives, you guys check all the boxes. I also loved your hooking up with other KZbinrs I watch; felt like a growing family. I'm sooo happy to see young people taking an in-depth interest in these old cars. They're so special and lots of fun. The KZbin videographers are reviving interest in a fantastic way. Even as the prices go up, at least they're not crumbling into the dirt and getting forgotten.

So cool you found a 86 5.0. They are cheap fun!! I had an 86 5.0 LX. I ordered it new. Super basic no air 5-speed only sunroof and power windows. Took 2nd place at Muscle Car Nationals in 88 in street stock small block. Was pretty fast in it's day. With Nos and gears and a few other minor mods. Ran high 12's...had it for 14 years and 160,000 fun miles!!

Man, Chris! You, Jen and The Gus Man put out the best vids. So much fun! I'm like others here. I think teh Desert Revival series is my favorite that you guys do. These desert road trips, with the great scenery, the constant hint of danger, the night-time pool action, the cacti. All of it. Just love it. I discovered you guys because of my love of boats, and water equipment. But I love everything you guys do.

Frustrated working on the vehicles? As Jen once said: "Chris, that's what it's ALL about!" Without the repairs and your commentary, you wouldn't have content and we wouldn't have a great channel to watch! Was really hoping you had put ALL the repairs in the episode! Great stuff. ❤👍🙏

I have the same mustang 5.0. She is my retirement car. When I retire she will be restored from the ground up. Bought her back in 95 and I`m the second owner and put a lot of fun miles on her before I put her in storage three years ago. Enjoyed watching your videos.
