I didn't vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and she is the last person I'll ever defend. But Norm's claim that "had Hillary Clinton won in 2016, the most significant movement in modern American history would not have happened" (by which he means the Sanders campaign) doesn't make sense. The Sanders campaign had already had a significant impact by the end of the 2016 primaries, and her winning the general election instead of Trump wouldn't have changed that. If he means Bernie's 2020 campaign, it was important but had less impact the second time around (partly due to the pandemic). Maybe it pushed Biden slightly to the left on domestic policy (although not, catastrophically, on foreign policy). But it's overblown to call Bernie's second run more important than any other movement. More important than the labor movement? I don't think so. Norm is very knowledgeable, but he often speaks in hyperbole and makes overly sweeping claims, and this is a good example.

The Supremes told the Democratic National Committee that,as a PRIVATE CORPORATION, they DON'T have to let voters choose the candidates. That's why Bernie didn't get the nomination in 2016 or 2020. The DNC and their billionaire donors chose Hillary and Joe
@Krack28053 сағат бұрын
although I respect norm's takes in many many things, his takes on current affairs and future speculation sometimes leave more to be desired. I feel he relies too heavily on the same ways that he examines history, looking only for very concrete examples, actions, etc. that fulfill a requirement for something.

"It would have precluded the Bernie Sanders candidacy." Yea, so what? Bernie didn't get elected; he didn't even get nominated. As soon as it became a two horse race for the Democratic nomination, corporate Democrat vs. Bernie, Bernie got soundly beaten. It was an instructive moment though, because it (sadly) showed how few Progressive voters there are in America. And I Bernie, but facts are facts.

I respect and admire NF tremendously but have would like to comment on a couple things he says here. He says Harris didnt go through the democratic process which must include primaries so she appears anointed. Ok one can really argue with that, other than point out that she was chosen as VP as a possible successor to the president in case of incapacity of the President. People voted for the ticket that included her as VP, so there is a sort of legitimacy here. He then accuses her of doing nothing while he concedes that Biden did manage to pass legislation quite a bit. He forgets to mention that Harris was part of the team that did this so she has every right to claim these achievements as her own too. Finally, NF says the republican party comes across as more observant of democratic principles than the democratic party because of the non participation in primaries! What? The party that tried to steal the election!!!!!!!!!! Come on Norman. Oh. one final thing. He says there were several really smart people running in the Republican primaries but the fact is {he loves facts remember} the primary process chose the dumbest of them.

The challenges facing Humanity as we sit in front of our computers are mind boggling. An Iranian PHD Sociologist pointed out just last week , we are now facing a ""Double edged Sword " , a New Model which has been planned and well in the works , a New New the World Order Model , starting in 2024 ending in 2028. Joe Biden, Kamila Harris fit well into this model.; incapable, , incapacitated , redundant. I am Hoping that Donald Trump has matured and will handle the world peacefully and not fall into Netanyahu's and others traps. Truly Dangerous Times.

I've always had the utmost admiration and respect for Chomsky. Until COVID, Chomsky this self professed anarchist backed the most authoritarian statist response towards people who refused to vaccinate. His only real principals were that opinions shared by the group I identify are correct and the rest are incorrect and vile. A man of great intellect and no principal. I suspect he would have been an ardent republican of that was his milieu as well.
