I have watched a few of your videos and must congratulate you on how well they are made. So much to see without any talking. It is such a jubilant feeling when you roll up for the first time. You captured that so well. Your enthusiasm and passion is obvious.

NORTHSEAKAYAK Too bad you cant come to Canada now. We’ve been having temps in the 30’s. I’m in Ottawa, Ontario and would host you. Boat’s right on the Ottawa River. We’re surrounded by rivers and many lakes! Edmonton welcome to join too. After covid May next year? I just finished cancer treatment recently and bought myself a North Shore Atlantic. Enjoying her. Cheers 🇨🇦

Very nice! I like the various hip snap practices. I haven't yet gotten the roll, so I will try those and see if they make it.
@Northseakayak5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes you will get there, I'm sure of it. The exercises are perfect because you don't need water for those. You can try at home and train you musscle memory before starting out in water. Best of luck, and have fun! Oh, another tip; let someone record what you are doing, best way to see errors. 👍👌😊

@@Northseakayak Success! I wouldn't say I nailed it, because it took a number of failed attempts and wet exits before it worked. And that one was almost a surprise as it came together and I popped over. Managed to repeat it twice more (with more wet exits), then called it a day. I was still making all the common mistakes, paddle going straight down, leading with my head. The key was really concentrating on following the flat sweep around with my eyes and leaning way back. Biggest impediment is a weak hip snap. I'll write it all up in a post on my woodworking blog. Thank you!!!

Oh great Steve!! You must be proud!! Keep training, you will see that there will be a withdrawl after a few succesfull rolls, but that is normal. Great, great, aplause!!!!👌👍👍🤗

What an eye-opener! I want to improve my skills, but have always been worried about learning to roll because I ASSUMED the instruction would involve the instructor telling you what to do, you trying it and failing, the instructor rescuing you, and so on. Never dreamed you'd start out of the water and move step by step. But of course that's the way to learn! I want to take a class now!! Thank you SO MUCH!!!

Those C to C rolls looks more aggressive and powerfull than a regular roll. Maybe more stress on the paddle and easier to break it?
@Northseakayak5 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Personally I have no preference, they are al good rolls as long as it works out for you in the conditions you paddle in. But if a paddle breaks because of rolling, than I should consider buying another brand. :-) Cheers, Dimitri

Sofa surfing here and came across your episode. I’d like to take one of these rolling courses. After watching these students it looks like most of the roll comes from the hip snap. Is that a fair assumption? Is this course taken over one day and an evening session? Thanks in advance 🛶
@Northseakayak6 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated!. The video contains footage of 3 sessions in the harbor and 1 evening session. Well noticed, the hip snap is important, as is the "knee-drive", which you cannot see in the video. Best of luck, being able to roll will give a whole new dimension to the sport for you! Cheers, Dimitri

If every video must be an instructional... then most of the videos would be useless. This video is not instructional, we wanted to show how we do things, that's all.

Consider, any nationality can view and learn. And some of us learn as much from watching. I was personally very interested in the progress of the head position as the roll progressed. The head became better positioned on each successful roll but an aggressive faster hip flick is where a poorer leading head position was adopted and a slicker slower when the head came up last. Very interesting viewing capturing multiple failures and then success. I am still trying to perfect my roll. I know what I need to do but my body doesn't always want to do that.

The point is that I learned more about rolling (especially hip snap) from watching this video than all the ones with words combined. And rather than posting a negative comment, I watched it again and again. Because I actually could analyze it visually. Wonderful job by NSK showing how it’s done!
