That isn't true about there not needing at least 3 months to promote a show/event. Shows need to be promoted at least 3 months in advanced (not including regular mainstream artists/bands world tours). People need to have time to find out about the show/event, get the money for it (if needing to save or make money for a ticket), and to plan their day by it (to get that day off, or to not book a trip during that time or buy a ticket for another show/event). There are smaller type of shows (small venue shows) that have a few days to 1 month of notice of a show. Or that a local artist/band or 2 get booked on to be an opener for a tour or club event for one show. I'm not a promoter, I don't work in the music industry, and I know a month isn't usually enough time for a somewhat small club/venue to fill it up to the 200 or 300 ticket capacity limit. That number 50 sounds about correct. That just shows that these artists or at least the headlining one(s) had a good amount of people show up. The other guy might of seen about 15 people there for the first few sets, but that doesn't equate to the sales. I would've gone by the ticket sales number and then divided it by how much one ticket costs and then had gotten the attendee number by that since it doesn't seem like this show has tickets for sale besides at the door/gate the day of the event. So if the event was set up for that location and date even at least 2 months prior, then the promoting should've started then. This is also based on ticket sales solely online (except for the day of the show when there are available tickets left). There are sometimes people (artists performing at the show/event or people working for them) selling physical tickets as well as the online ones. So if it was solely or mostly promoted in person, that makes it even harder. Without knowing how this guy promoted the event, it already had a bad start with the lack of available promoting time.

The problem here is that the defendant try to make money on this event, and he lost a lot. If they spent $15,000, and each ticket was $20, he would have needed 750 people to break. Even. Unfortunately, he only got 50 people, so that means each ticket needs to be $300. He's not paying because he lost money , and all the money he has to pay out has to come out of his own pocket.
@diamondstarr339210 ай бұрын
As someone in the entertainment business, espically as a producer of (drag) shows, we follow a lot of the same practices as musicians. Having to pay out of pocket is a risk you take when producing a show.
@JeremiahLOsborne10 ай бұрын
@@diamondstarr3392 absolutely right. You have to invest your own money into making that show, hiring the actors, advertising for the show, renting the venue, and staffing the entire production. A lot of that has to be paid before any of the tickets are even sold. Very few of those people are going to work and get paid only if the show makes money.
@diamondstarr339210 ай бұрын
ALL THAT! There have been many a show where I have bit the bullet and not gotten paid or worked for tips only. Both performing for others and producing my own shows. ESPICALLY producing my own shows. A lot of the time it is like with the plaintiff, it is about the reputation more then the money sometimes. I have a reputation of people looking to me as a teacher on how to produce good shows. So the fact that I have done it for the love of the art and for reputation points over money, AND done it successfully enough others emulate me. I have done what I set out to do, but it has cost a lot of money. That does not even take into account the cost of costumes and props and time for rehearsal. People dont realize how much money the media arts actually cost. Even people on your fave tv shows are barely scrapping by sometimes. The media art from theater to drag to movies to music to hell even light art installations. Anything that goes "off the page" and requires media of any sort is going to cost a ton. And often times it is about doing the daily grind and investment so that you can do your "passion projects" later. @@JeremiahLOsborne
@JeremiahLOsborne10 ай бұрын
@@diamondstarr3392 very well said. And I think what many people fail to realize is that you have no idea how much money you're going to make until after the show is over. What other professional has to work like that? That's stressful, to me. It takes a special kind of individual to be able to persevere. When you invest time and money into a performance it doesn't pay off. But if you persevere, you earn a lot of those reputation dollars. And that's what earns the business. That's what makes the money. Good for you.
@diamondstarr339210 ай бұрын
Thanks. The way I see it is that I would rather have longevity in my art, which requires reputation. Vs having a short SUPER SUCCESSFUL time, but then you never hear about them again. And money can buy all that via costumes and other things. But they dont last in the art. I been doing drag for 20 years so must be doing something right. He didn't want to continue the event. Well, what about the attendees that paid and showed up? Just tell them that the artist or band that they were to see isn't performing anymore even though they're there and already to play on time? Or for the attendees that paid to be there the entire show and then the show would end early? That's all kinds of wrong and straight up rude. People would be wanting their money back. That also makes the artists look bad 'cause they had a show and it was ended early. From the look of that poster, it could be the type that a lot of these people's fans aren't using social media much or at all to see info about these artists. So these artist might not be able to inform those attendees that they were screwed over which ended up screwing over the attendees. Then the artists would be looking bad. I've seen online with some venues that needed to give back refunds right when the pandemic closers happened long enough to not be about to a year down the road reschedule a show/event. So the venues and or ticketing sites weren't giving people their money back or any info on about a refund at some point ever. The artists had to tell people how to try and get their refunds 'cause themselves weren’t able to make that happen since that job isn't run by them. I'm glad that the show still finished. I went to a show that only 3 fans were there 'cause there wasn't enough time to inform people about the show. There was like a month of time. They didn't start the show and then end up canceling the rest of it 'cause they couldn't get more at the doors. Whomever that was running it ate up the cost.

Eh... unfortunatley this sort of art is highly and popularly associated with criminals/drugs/prostitution .. so for anyone bringing in this sort of art, its best they deal with established artists that have managers/agents otherwise be ready with body guards and guns to guarentee his/her own safety...

The plaintiff and performers were in breach of contract and his thugs threatened to duct tape him and abduct him to force him to withdraw money and the defendant doesn't get anything for that, yet the plaintiff wins his case on no evidence?...
