I love how much Paulie loves these horses. It cannot be easy to work on these rescues that don't have training or have trauma and so many with painful feet. Most farriers would not deal with troubled horses but Paulie treats each one like an individual and makes a plan for them to help them live comfortably and get better if possible. He's a real gem and his skill mixed with his thoughtfulness is so needed in this world.

Pauly is great. But, I mean, Pauly, thinks Clinton Anderson is good. CA is a lame copycat hack, IMO. I’ve seen/heard CA saying exactly, verbatim what other trainers say. He copies them. He doesn’t have ANY OF HIS OWN ORIGINAL THOUGHTS, ABOUT HOW/WHAT A HORSE IS HAVING ISSUES ARE‼️ I, also feel that Pony Tales, could use a new barn manager. IMO - Rae just isn’t up to par, OR what Pony Tales needs…IMO. She’s just not a good trainer(IMO), & should either be moved down a notch, or let go. I know of 2 barn managers that would be PERFECT for the job of barn manager. Either of them, or both, would be GREAT FITS‼️ AND, WOULD NOT WANT ANY PAY OR EXPECT IT - BOTH of them would volunteer‼️‼️They BOTH have UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR HORSES, & BOTH HAVE YEARSSSSS OF EXPERIENCE UNDER THEIR BELTS…WESTERN, and ENGLISH. I WISH they lived near us, but, they don’t. I would definitely trust them with our horses. And, trusting ANYONE with OUR HORSES?? Is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for me to do. But, I WOULD trust these 2 ladies. JUST A SUGGESTION😉. If interested or want more info please email me at: whisperingsmoke@hotmail.com

When I was a kid (40 years ago), our ponies and horses never had these issues. We just rode for fun. I’m just wondering if hoof and leg issues are more prevalent these days because of breeding or because of the sports people engage in?
@KaivalaJenva6 ай бұрын
Probably a bit of all of the above. Wild horses don't usually end up with these issues because they live on the run but off pavement. As case for alot of the Amish ones seen they spend years on pavement with shoes that they try to extend life of with things like borum doesn't do anything to help the horse itself. Breeding will just depend on the actual breed where a few awful things like the 2 muscle paralysis ones seen in quarter breeds that unfortunately give a beefy look at a cost of horse comfort like mayflower had. And remember the sanctuary looks for horses with problems specifically that they hope they can give them a more comfortable life if possible vs a short miserable life crammed into meat trucks.
@dreamcatcher38616 ай бұрын
I’m the same age as you and am from the uk. We only ever saw these issues here highlighted in cruelty cases and seizures made by animal protection organisations in Pony magazines. It was going on but hidden as we didn’t have internet and access to these ‘throw away society’ auctions. The uk have much much stricter rules for equine welfare because they’re considered pets here. There’s no overbreeding here, (apart from behind the scenes in the racing industry) a whole other sad story. With lack of regulations, no laws protecting the horses and unscrupulous people taking advantage,the extremely sad thing now is that, if there’s a quick buck to be made by someone, they’ll do it. The Amish over breed drafts, sometimes interbred, then break them to ride and drive far too early, then sell them. Genetic issues arise or issues caused by breaking and working the poor animals too young and the new owner then realises they can’t use the horse, so rather than do the right thing by their animal and retire it under veterinary care, dump it at another auction for down payment on another horse….and on and on it goes. There are so many horse ranches in America, they’re treated like cattle by some and until laws protecting horses in the USA change, the cruelty, overbreeding, genetic issues and heartbreak will continue. It’s disgusting.

I know there are Amish communities around the state of Wisconsin, but I am realizing there are far more! Where I grew up, I knew they are around but didn't experience many encounters with them. Same where I live now. Seeing all those draft horses at that sale and all the drafts recused by Pony Tales, boggles the mind! Most Amish don't treat their animals well and it is disgusting knowing they don't care about the animals! Whether it is cattle, horses or any other animal! Same goes with Horse Plus Humane Society in Tennessee! Didn't realize there are a lot of Amish in their area and that is why Horse Plus rescues a lot of drafters from time to time! Very happy Pony Tales, Horse Plus and other rescues are saving horses from the slaughter pipeline! Hope someday horses cannot be shipped to Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered! It needs to stop!

Nothing against them, but isn't it harder to re-home them? Then of course there is the amount of feed they need and poor Paulie with the feet that so many do not get the proper care for, no training for the stocks! Are there no Drafts only rescues in your area? Just wondering is all.
