NTG5*1 how to activate apple car play the free way

This is how I activate apple car play if you want to try do so at your own risk please be careful
This is my current retro fit of a ntg5*1 audio 20 Panasonic also know as ( hu5s1 ntg5.1)
( I take no responsibility at all at any level if this don’t work) this is just how I have activated apple car play if you don’t feel comfortable or confident please seek advice for a reputable company

extra notes
To navigate menu use scroll wheel.
When i say d-pad this refers to scroll wheel on controller.

first i start out by
this can ever be done by having car running or key in position 2 so the cluster is fully light up.
1. holding end call 1 and hash. ........ (i recommend doing this on vehicle info menu)
2. using Dpad scroll to system the push down on the Dpad this transfer you to the second menu as seen in the video.
3. scroll down to logging cluck down on Dpad again to open menu 3.
4. now with menu 3 open scroll down to log marks push down on the Dpad is will change from enable log marks to disable log marks.
5. using Dpad ever click left until you back at menu 1 or just press the back button.
6. now with logging marks enabled you scan can scroll down to and select variation coding using the Dpad ( if you have not enabled log marks on logging menu this wont wont work).
7. after that click on variant page 2 using Dpad.
8. now a new window will open scroll down still you see Remote UI these setting need to be switched on ... Remote UI : on ... mirror link over NCM : on ... Transmitt Audio SDS : On ....
Transmitt Audio for Microphone : on. now scroll down to Remote UI Application.
9. in Remote UI Application the following setting need to be switched on in remote UI Services on. Carplay via usb: on .... you can turn on Automotive Link via USB or live it off your choice
10. navigate all the way down till you see set page. click on set page using Dpad you will see ever box saying loading or dots ouns the box has disappeared. click back on controller
(don't and i mean don't change any over setting yet as we need this to save correctly and do a full shut down letting the car learn these's settings)
11. this should bring you back to original screen now scroll to system the push down on the Dpad this transfer you to the second menu scroll to logging then push down on the Dpad again to open menu 3.
12. now with menu 3 open scroll down to log marks push down on the Dpad is will change from disable log marks to enable log marks. (coding finished but will need time to take affect please dont skip part 13 below)
13. safe way of shutting down the radio. now navigate back to menu 1 click any of these buttons on the stereo ...... radio or car or nav (dont click power off on radio as this has been know to ignore changes made) once you been returned back to the standard radio menu. switch the car off by removing the key. get out the car and lock the car or the car will not go to sleep especially if its keyless go. (dont stand next to the car and it will detect the key) now the long wait begins this can some times take up to half hour (30mins)(some cars take longer then overs) reason is you need to wait for the car to finish self scans and fully shut down personal id go make a cupper give it 10mins some cars are faster.

14. now lets go see if it saved all your hard work. if yes please drop us a like. :)

know issues i have come across
1. you can see apple Carplay but wont connect when plug in. thing to check genuine apple cable (Mercedes sell certified cables) your not plugged into usb port 2 you haven't unlocked you phone and allowed permissions you iPhone is to old
2. dont alway save first try (i had one take 3 time but works after never a problem after)
3. go to vehicle menu then the click down you see setting click on it and then you see and option to reset setting (the is a basic reset as it just left mercedes but you need to set you phone back up. and saved radio channels nav but you should see the carplay potion in the tel menu.
4. your software version might need upgrading if a first year gen 1
3. your software version is too new this some time can be fix by doing a factory reset this can be down at your own risk but once done it will reinstall the first software version it left factory with not back to the Mercedes update.

Some times this happens I found doing a complete factory reset and this resolves the issue 8/10 times hope this helps

Hi mate, idk if you can help me. I have a 2016 A180d w176 I activated CarPlay using the obd2 tools and it worked fine. Suddenly my car won’t recognise my phone at all (I have tried 4 other phones). I have tried 10 cables (including genuine straight from Apple) and no luck. It seems like the USB ports in centre console charge the device but don’t recognise phone. I have even tried a memory USB stick that has music on and it won’t recognise that either. I am using the right sided usb port (with phone and media symbol)

@@hemanpoh Lucky for the both of you, I can say that this method doesn't work. I've got a 2016 212 and had to enable the Engineering menu using Vediamo and a Tactrix cable. The options aren't there....well for carplay anyhow, they are for Android, but grayed out. No option to enable logging. So...that is all to say that you need DTS Monaco.

it might need unlocking not all units are unlocked to engineering mode but it dont take much to do

Id you can’t enter engineering mode you have to reset you system first and the simultaneously hold “hangup+1+#”

I have a w176 from 2016 (c-class). For me the car play and android auto also go back to off, though if I change the CI screen to type to, this saves and shows the amg logo on restart. I believe the key to saving is actually keep pressing the "on" wheel and this restarts the computer. Though as mentioned, for me none of the things worked for android auto/apple car play. Any ideas what's going wrong?

The issue I am getting is that I have the option for CarPlay. I plug the usb in and the recognises it as a CarPlay connection but then can’t activate the phone

I had same issue. You need to go back to mercedes and update the firmware. It will solve the issue but you will never be able to get android auto again...

Help, i tried to do it, followed all the steps, had to do the reset first. But now my bluetooth does not work! When i start the car it connects to bluetooth for 2 seconds and there is sound in the car for 2 sec, then it stops the music and it stops working, also cant click on soundmenu (equalizer) anymore… it just says: function not possible right now… how do i fix? I tried resetting the whole car system still not working!

I tried all of this today on GLA 2017. Initially the engineering mode was not getting on by pressing 3 buttons at a time. Then I did factory reset on both dashboard menu and radio unit. Upon that I was able to enter it. But then after performing all steps, car play didn’t appear in the menu, even though I am sure I pressed Set Page, and system responded. When I entered settings again, values were like if I didn’t change then at all 😢

You need to look at your vehicle built date (My 2016 GLE w/NTG5.5 was built on November 10, 2015). There was a transition where they updated the firmware/software I think it was built after January 8th, 2016 is when they had car play. I'm going to see if it's in the Engineering menu first. If it's not there. You and or I need to update the firmware/software first.

i personally have not came across this as a option in the NTG5*1 but this can be had with a aux to Bluetooth adapter now if your talking about the NTG4.5 audio 20 or command this can be activated very easily wish you find with a quick google search sorry i cant be any more help

Too bad it doesnt work :/ It is jumping to OFF even if you are not leaving the “engineer mode”. When you change a page it automatically comes OFF again…

i have also found my self if you change a setting and set it the change page it removes what you just changed. that is why once you have set it return to the index menu turn of diag mode the remove key from the car then get out the car lock the car walk away giving it time to shut down the sub systems after waiting some time you it should have saved. but like i said this dont work on all updates of the headunit and is yours a 522 ?

depends if you have a audio 20 522 this can work on over modes but for 100% this wont work on a NTG4.5 with out retro fitting a aftermarket device
