TheMormonn Like you, my mother and sister died of cancer, breast cancer to be precise. My father and maternal grandmother died of Alzheimer's Disease. They all had Type II Diabetes so they took insulin pills, they also had high cholesterol, that is for sure for my grandmother and dad, which meant Statin drugs. Additionally my dad had high blood pressure, my grandmother also who was on blood thinners. I've been plant-based solely now for over a year, before that for four years a transitioning vegetarian who cheated a lot. But my husband had Prostate Cancer and I knew about going plant-based so I decided to prove to him, I could get healthier this way and lose weight and be off medication. I did. In the process of not being serious with my vegetarianism, I had to have my gallbladder out. But it took for my husband's cancer to decide, we are going to do this together. My husband does cheat but being male, he can eat more fat than I and as long as he keeps the animal protein down per week, he's been okay. He is off dairy totally which is likely why he had Prostate Cancer. I know that no surgery gets every last cancer cell and our tests may not detect cancer until it proliferates. So to be safe, we are eating now a diet we are actually enjoying very much. At the time of my gallbladder surgery, I weighed 200 lbs. Now I weigh 144. I was pre-diabetic but now by A1C blood sugar is 5.1. My blood pressure yesterday at the doctor's office was 104/69. My husband's blood pressure is manageable by diet so he is off his BP meds. He has lost 40 lbs also. I still want to lose 20-25 lbs. My husband's goals are to lose at least 35 more lbs. But likely a bit more as we are older now. My husband was so overweight that his weight loss has not begun to really show until recently. Mine is more obvious. We are both feeling better and our mental sharpness is better for both of us. However my back flared up as I have an old back injury from when I was 40. But I am getting better much faster. I have not had to use my wheelchair. I've suffered from depression most of my life and that is mostly gone too. And no one thinks I am 66, they take me for 45. That does not hurt either. So very glad to hear of your great success. This is my diet for the rest of my life! No more appetite which I cannot control! It is such FREEDOM! I understand what food does and it really does act like medicine without the toxic side effects. We buy food and not medicine. Living on a fixed income, we can manage our money so much better. Every where I go, people who see me, we end up talking about plant-based diet. It is because I am happy.

Dr Barnard's videos are very informative and helpful. My wife and I became vegan two months ago and we both have lost weight and are feeling much better. Food tastes much better because there is so much variety. We both have much more energy and do 40 minutes of Nordic walking every day. The arthritis in my right hip has disappeared.

Graham Spink I do the same. Although in the last five years as I've slowly converted I no longer find steak appealing. I'd have to give my regrets to the chef rather than attempt to choke it down. I just think I'd gag on it now. Ground meat is more palatable to me, but I doubt I could eat more than a bite or two if a hamburger as much as I'd like to have one. I'm very happy just to eat the sides. I'd love it if desserts and sugar followed suit over the years, but I hear that is unlikely.

Yes, I understand. I am an at-home vegetarian. It's impractical to ask your hosts to cook what diet you prefer. However, my hosts sometimes offer vegetarian alternatives more and more over time.

Vitamin b3 defficiency causes dimentia, pellegra was due to lack of b3 in a high-corn diet in the 1490's, were in corn syrup, the daily minimum of b3 to someone that low is like a daily drop of water to a man rescued walking around a dessert dying of thirst. B3 niacin: niacinamide: nicotinic acid, the body can't make ATP in the muscles without it, nicotine works in the same way, that's why the smoker who got some nicotine in a break doesn't feel hungry all of the sudden, and why vitamin b3 deficient purple find themselves eating more, their body is desisted looking for b3 in those potatoes and tomatoes, and so people who smoke are really addicted to vitamin b3 and nicotine is a straight stream of a replacement fuel, it's all the waste that's added as a fertilizer or bug repeller or flavor additive or preservative that kills everyone who smokes Every Alzheimer brain studied was gray with aluminium absorption, but that's what we spray for cloud seeeding in the air, the cure is identifying the cause of the disease and prevent exposure, we all know alum. Is bad for the body, but instead we give money to find a treatment program not really stop the cause, instead they start another cause and then ask if you want to give money to find the cure, and the cause, well that's just the advertising campaign.

Nothing could be further from the truth.I totally disagree with these "findings". My father wasn't into any saturated or unsaturated fat and he got Alzheimer's. Never a diary, egg, bacon or any meat eater(except a small amount once a week). He was also a heavy tea drinker (cholestrol burner). Above all he was skinny as he led an very active life without any grease intake. The only excess was table sugar into those daily cups of tea.He was deficient in B12 and iron (imagine that from a non-meat eater). Paradoxically, his long best friend whose lifestyle was the complete opposite(save the sugar), he got an ever sharper mind. Actually, as we introduced diary, egg and organ meat(lots of liver) on a daily basis, his memory has improved.... I think either extreme will surely be counterproductive, though a slight extreme in favor of fat will be beneficial for the brain.

I can provide you a similar example of my grandmother who loved to eat pork and drink milk and got alzheimers. Just like your example, it proves nothing. Dr. Barnard talks in terms of populations and studies, not one off anecdotal "evidence" as the one you're presenting. This is meaningful information. It doesn't mean that if you avoid animal products you're guaranteed to never have alzheimers, it simply means you will lower your risk.

I think good info is given here. There are always cases like your Father, people who never smoked who got lung cancer, always the exceptions. Dr Neal's advice is to be heeded.
