You guys need to know how the system works. The NY council members makes the laws and the NYPD enforces them. The council changed bail reform laws so no one is retained in jail while waiting for trial as they want to reduce the jail population and introduced the alternative-to-incarceration laws where a person who's found guilty can choose to go to jail or just report on a periodic basis to a monitor. Police, prosecutors, judges all need to follow these laws. Crime has gone up because the same criminals are commiting them over and over again. Change the council members by voting them out perhaps then you'll see some improvement

Let's be honest, the rush to retirement is because there were more officers hired after 9/11 (2002-2005) than any other time in the Department's history, so of course there is an exodus as those officers reach retirement eligibility. There are leaving at the rate that officers always leave which is after 20-25 years. That said, the job is thankless. Although they are not getting as many applicants for the job as previously, they are still managing to meet their target. What this means is that they have less of a pool to draw from.
@GeeBee2122 ай бұрын
@georgevarughese4886 Not true. When a MOS is sued, the plaintiff ALWAYS seeks indemnification from the city otherwise they couldn't get multi million dollar payouts. Certain personal assets are protected and individuals don't have deep pockets. Your pension is yours and maybe your ex wife's.

IDK about other cops, but my brother recently quit because he couldn't handle the overtime. Now he has a nice office job doing IT, while finishing his studies. Basically, he said it was impossible to be a cop and have a life. Forcing overtime on these people is going to cause more people to leave. You need a life outside of work.
