They were never big in the USA. Even the Gallagher brothers admitted to that, I think Liam said "people over there are weird" referring to the musical taste is the U.S in the 90s. Beatles were the first boy band and it worked for them everywhere, they even got guys to like songs like Love me do, respect is due there. Beatles dominated the 60s thanks to having various brilliant songwriters, good marketing from Brian Epstein and being first to the market. Oasis came around the downturn of Rock.

And even then Oasis weren't as massive as they should have been like in the UK. Their music was perfect anthemic and triumphant for the mainstream and yet they got pigeonholed as an Alternative Rock hit band instead. We totally deserved a major "Second British Invasion" as someone else said here in the comments. So he got 2 tickets for Oasis at The Royal Court in Liverpool (this was December 95). He leaned up to the microphone, and drawled "Come on Scousers - every one of you outside now!" I instantly liked him. Like most music groups, i think how they got signed is part mythical and part false. Im sure Johnny Marr tipped off Alan Mcghee, or one of his associates, to have a look at the band when they were performing in Scotland. The story is apparently Alan McGhee used to date one of the girls in the band they shared the bill with. But if tour ex boyfriend was a music executive wouldn't the girls at least mentioned it to Oasis and let them know they have industry contacts? I just find it hard to believe it was a completely random occurence. Im sure Johnny Marr had a bigger role in them being signed than people realise.

Disrespectful towards the Beatles. Oasis has 1 known song, that’s why jay z made fun of em

Not anything like the Beatles in terms of success. Their music is far from memorable, and Noel 'The Riff Poacher' Gallagher, is an arch-plagiarist who claims false-authorship of superior artist's ideas.

I always thought oasis was a rip off of The Beatles. Like, they were trying to be like them. Radio head deserves the Beatles title in my opinion.
@dlovas4 ай бұрын
I agree that Radiohead's experimental and innovative attitude resonates much more with the Beatles. That being said, describing Oasis as trying to sound like the Beatles was just lazy 90s journalism. On which Beatles album would Columbia, Supersonic, Bring It On Down, or even Slide Away fit in? Most guitar bands were just as influenced by the Beatles as Oasis, and many of them, including Blur, sounded far more like a Lennon-McCartney rip off.

Heathen Chemistry has great singles. The first half of that album is up there with their finest work. The rest of the tracks feel like B-sides though. The Truth is well rounded and consistent. Keep The Dream Alive is arguably their most under rated track.
