Thanks for this! I just bought myself the A500 mini. I use it to play my favourite Amiga games! With the help of videos such as these I often unearth a hidden gem or two! So once again, thank you!

Oh, you're welcome and thanks for watching! :) I've an old video of "10 Years of Amiga Gaming" which covers games through 10 years of system's life, that's over 400 games, if you're looking for inspiration. It's there both as a one-off over 6 hour long file or split into 10 individual episodes.

Nice find, I remember the lore of Rogue Trooper from a game released in 2006, one of my favourite years, called "Rogue Trooper" (Yes, very original) It's a great game itself, they even made a Redux in 2017 which I've tried and it wasn't bad, but I don't think they fixed all the jank and bugs. I'll give this Amiga one a try, there's thankfully a WHDLoad version of it. By the way, a bit off-topic but I have no other idea how I can ask you; Have you heard of this Polish group called "The Company" that is making something called EXE 3.0? I don't understand anything about it at all but it seems that the concept is, you can play Amiga on Windows without needing to use an emulator, it's not even some pre-configured or pre-installed emulator. Maybe you should take a look, knowing you're Polish you'll surely understand it way better than me as well :) Funny how Poland has a big scene on Amiga, it's like how Armenia still uses Windows XP when they could easily be using Windows 10.

I heard about it. I mean the EXE thing. I think it's a game with all its disks preconfigured in WinUAE emulator repacked into an exe file runnable under windows with no tinkering necessary. Just run it and play, nothing less, nothing more. But F12 button in it works same as in WinUAE to call the in-app configuration, if I remember correctly, so you can sorta "look underneath" and check or even change things if you need to. Not that there should be ever a reason to do so. I can probably look into in the future but I remember I dismissed the idea in the past, as if you give it 5 minutes, running any Amiga games under WinUAE is dead simple. On the other hand, I suppose what they do does not require kickstart or watching a short KZbin video to run games, so can be useful to some, who just want to play games and nothing more... From a quick look at their website many games are available straight up, while some, more well known ones are hidden in a premium section which requires either a donation or subscription of some kind. It's just a quick look though, so it may be offered in a different way. Question of legality according to their website is moot, and they apparently have all the necessary licenses. I haven't fact checked it but I see no reason for it to be untrue. It looks legit. Also, I'm not sure how big Amiga scene is in Poland these days to be honest, as most of the fans use Facebook and various groups on it, and I refuse to do so. I'm not big on Facebook. It's not my thing. I had it years ago but found it and what people use it for extremely annoying and I tend to remove things that annoy me from my life. :) To answer your request however, I will consider covering The Company and their EXE 3.0 in the future. Can't give you any date yet, but it looks interesting.

I read quite a few Rogue Trooper comics in my youth, he was a character from a Sci Fi compilation comic from the U.K. called 2000AD, the home of Judge Dredd.

Covert Action is the most oddly obscure of Meier's games, coming in the middle of a string of classics. Centerbase is legit obscure for a boxed release - Mobygames has a German box, 6 review scores but ZERO screenshots. I don't know how an Amiga game from 1992 that was in 6 mags has no screenshots. Rogue Trooper is the second Rogue Trooper game. There's a 1986/87 game on ZX/Amstrad/C64 that's a bad Commando-esque thing. A 3rd game was a 2006 PS2/Xbox/PC game. All three games reviewed Dreddfully, although at least this game looks good for the time.
@OldAndNewVideoGames
@OldAndNewVideoGames Жыл бұрын
Yeah I often wonder about Covert Action, as it has all the makings of a really fun game. I mean, it is a really fun game. Perhaps it was a bit too much of a step aside from Sid Meier's "formula" for players to be drawn to it... But that's just a guess. Ha ha ha :) I think we can skip the oldie then, we've already enough bad Commando clones out there. The 2006 one I only saw in pictures and videos, never played it myself. But since it reviewed the way it did, it's unlikely to be one for me to come back to any time soon.

I read all the Rogue Trooper series from the very start up until around 1995 & I had a copy of Rogue Trooper too! Unfortunately, my copy was bugged so it always crashed at the end of level 1 😥 Also unfortunate was that by this time 2000AD (where RT appeared) had decided it was no longer a comic but a weekly graphic novel. I still have around 1,000 original 2000ADs!

Troddlers like a Solomon's key clone - assuming it came out later.

It is very similar to Solomon's Key, which was earlier on all platforms other than the Amiga. Amiga's port came in 2013, oddly enough. Main difference being how the creatures move, it Troddlers they actually walk on walls and ceilings too.

Thanks! :) I lived in London for a little over 8 years in the 2000's, as a young adult, and I did not dabble much in comic books back then anymore. Or not yet, as it seems, I'm into them once more now - who would've known? So, that's why I must've missed Rogue Trooper. That said, the World is oversaturated by American visual novels, so it's usually what shows up first in google searches...

Sleepwalker was developed for Comic Relief, a charity telethon in the UK, which helped rase funds & draw attention to the charity, so it’s surprising that it is actually a very good game. It’s quite well known to UK gamers for that reason. Troddlers is not one I know but looks like fun? Same for Centerbase & Rolling Ronny. Nebulous 2 is just great. Hmm… Bacon sandwich! I want a bacon sandwich now. With HP sauce & nothing else. I love the Rogue Trooper comics but I’ve never felt any of the games do it justice? Still the Amiga version is working within the limitations of the system. Rubicon reminds me of that crappy Hulk Hogan game but looks a lot more fun? Good reminder to everyone, back your crap up! You’ve found some interesting recommendations there, thank you. Fun video. If Batman keeps giving you trouble threaten to banish him to that terrible Batman & Robin game on the original Play Station. Or the terrible movie it’s based on, either way a fate worse than death.

If that's the case about Sleepwalker, then it's phenomenal! Very rarely games not made as commercial products end up being good. Even today. And Sleepwalker is - as you know - a surprisingly good title. Troddlers is a fun take on the Lemmings formula. It did not resort to copying its gameplay straight up but added its own unique twist to it, and because of that it's a decent game and not just a rip-off. Bacon for life! I just LOVE it! If not for all the calories and the potential impact on my arteries I would've find a way to incorporate it into my every meal. ;) And talking about backups... Remember how few of my disks failed basically in a span of few weeks? I still haven't purchased a replacement, so I'm good at giving advices I don't follow myself, it seems. I'll get to it at some point though. xD I'm not sure if that's the case, cause he never said anything aloud, but any time the game you've mentioned is spoken about he leaves the room, so I think that it may have been the case, the last drop, that made him stop being vigilante super hero that he was... I gotta ask him one of those days. ;)

Hi there. I've been looking for a certain game I played on Amiga. It might have been a short shareware game, not a full-release production. Anyway in the game you got to control a bipedal mech that could transform into an aircraft. It looked very similiar to the flying part of Rogue Trooper in 11:06, meaning you got to see what's happening from behind and the land would "move" in a "lotus-esque" manner. I've watched all your amiga videos but to no avail. Any idea? Excellent job on putting them together, btw. Greetings from Poland!
