I have been trained briefly by Shinjo, he comes to my dojo in Canada every 2 years or so. If this doesn’t impress you, take my word for it, the only reason his partner there wasn’t like a damp rag in his hands is because he is also one of the most practiced karate dudes on the planet

A lot of great videos here. Do you plan on doing any of Hanshi-Sei Fusei Kise or Kaicho Isao Kise ? Grand Master Kise is, after all, the sole true heir to Matsumura Orthodox Karate, being passed down to him from Soken Sensei. This has been entered into the official Japanese Government Archives.

I'm not sure that what was shown to us here was some kumite. I think it's more of some Bunkai (forms in application) than real sparring.

Can someone define Kumite for me? Does it mean sparring? Or is it routines with a complicit partner?
@bunkfuggity4 жыл бұрын
Kumite is a full contact fight, but you make contact to score. First to three points wins. You can kick to face but not punch (with contact) to face. Shinjo Kiohede is one of the best fighters ever and currently holds the world record for most consecutive world championship titles. Anyone that criticizes him is ignorant.
@ninthkaikan15444 жыл бұрын
Vincent Lee Kumite can basically translate to sparring. There are multiple types of it. Prearranged kumite like shown in the video and jiyu kumite (free sparring) which is what you do after you’ve learned the prearranged stuff.

5:00 why would your opp turn his back on you so you could kick him in the back of his leg?
@AZombie484 жыл бұрын
I've been practicing this style for about a year now. It's kind of hard to see in the video, but you're supposed to push/fling the kick to the side when you block, and essentially spin the opponent like a top. The opponent isn't purposefully turning their back to you; you're forcing them to spin around.

@@BD90.. Uechi Ryu is Okinawan, Shotokan; Japanese
@dwern43223 жыл бұрын
Shotokan was the style that Funakoshi Gichin brought from Okinawa to Japan but he butchered it and turned it into Japanese boxing rather than the full system it was adapted from. Shotokan was very much politically motivated. Uechi-ryu and Shorin-ryu are more a full meal deal with a lot deadlier strikes

WHY would anyone waste valuable training time doing kata???? When you see the Master doing his kumite...you don't see any of those actions in a kata! When have you ever seen anyone move backwards in a kata??? Kata training takes up 1/3 to 1/2 of your training time. It's just a waste of time. Work on conditioning and strengthening your body and do you kumite, forget all about kata and you'll be far better off for doing so!
