Summing up ALL the Law and Prophets into 2 simple, easy to follow and remember commandments - love God and love others? Apparently, God felt the time had come 2,000 years ago to bring a New Covenant with those who will believe - a Covenant that based forgiveness and redemption simply on what Jesus did for us - not anything we could possibly do to earn that? That's why I think Immanuel's meaning is something @kentuckybrad brings up in his argument, as it also has a meaning which could be applied to Jesus. The only way you can argue that the two testaments are consistent is if you cherry pick select portions, remove them from their original context and force them together in ways that no legitimate scholar would ever support.
@dsp6373 Жыл бұрын
Just on the Messiah alone the two utterly inconsistent. That’s not taking into account all other topics of inconsistencies. The Hebrew Bible (HB) requires the Messiah to be of an unbroken patrilineal line back to king David. But according to the New Testament (NT) Jesus had no blood father, so it is claimed. Big inconsistency of the NT with the HB. The Hebrew Bible requires the Messiah to be born from a young female (almah) NOT a virgin (betulah), because the Messiah must be conceived by a human father. Yet the New Testament makes the claim that Mary was a virgin. The last time I checked, being young doesn’t mean you’re automatically a virgin (just ask unwed teen moms or grape victims), and being old doesn’t mean you’re not a virgin (just ask nuns and spinsters). The writers of the Bible understood this distinction in words which exist in Hebrew as they do in English. The word for virgin would’ve been used if that was the characteristic important to the Messiah’s mother. The Hebrew Bible prohibits succession to hereditary patrilineal positions by non-patrilineal descendants; the preisthood positions, Cohanim, Leviim, the Monarch position (Melech), the Messiah position (Moshaich), membership into one of the 12 Israelite tribes is by the father’s tribe, if you have no father or unknown father you have no tribe, you lose patrilineal membership. There are so many inconsistencies between the NT and the HB just as relates to the basic pre-requisites of being elegible to be the Messiah which Jesus didn’t possess, that it becomes irrelevant to even go into figuring out whether it’s a problem that he didn’t fulfil the prophecies of what the messiah would accomplish while on earth. Finally, the Messiah according to the HB will not be divine, just an ordinary human being, not a part of any triune god. On this the NT doesn’t actually make a claim of god being a trinity, that’s actually an invention of the church. It is contained in extra biblical decrees of the church fathers. It is dogma.

If a god is willing to threaten you, what makes you sure they wouldn't lie to you? Violent retribution seems less immoral than lying. How can you trust they wouldn't torture you even if you did what they said? If they have any desire to torture people after death, you can't be sure you will be exempted. How can you trust they can torture you if you ignore them? Many of these religions have a tempter with lesser power than they claim, with no proof the main god is not similar.

@@KentuckyBrad two points I'd like to make. 1st) In your belief, our god made a system where there is a good after life and a bad afterlife separate from each other. That is coercive, easily understood principal when compared to Jewish view of a singular afterlife. That not withstanding though, "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8 "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” - Matthew 25:46 those don't sound like simply absence. 2nd) If an all powerful universe shaping deity wanted to disallow an action, it should not be possible to perform. Best exemplified by video games like Skyrim where sex crimes aren't possible and you can't kill children, because the programmers denied those possibilities. Just as you are denied the ability to walk through walls or walk on air, their already exist constraints on what you can and can not achieve.

Your question do I think evil men should go to heaven, requires I think there is a heaven and that I think justice is handled on a cosmic scale. This is a similar "trap" question to do you think the starving should be able to steal food? In both instances, the problem lies elsewhere. For your question, why in a universe with a cosmic judge with great power are such evil men allowed to achieve such terrible feats? For my parallel, why are people starving when there is an abundance of food? To answer your question, I do not believe in evil people, I believe in those who are mislead, untreated, or under-educated. Hitler believed what he was doing was for the benefit of humanity, and he killed less people than your god did with a single flood. Bin Laden believes in a similarly cruel religion, that is just a bit more expressly militant, those who know Islam exist and don't choose it are infadels and they should be converted or killed, just as the Abrahamic god smote any nonchosen who looked at his arc. John Wayne Gacy (I assume you don't mean the actor), who commit sex crimes and murder was a sick man living in a country that stigmatizes therapy and privatizes health-care to be unaffordable, mean while your god approved daughters forcing themselves on their father to have kids, and enslavement of people. @@KentuckyBrad It would seem you read very little of what I wrote, but we have made progress as you have admit Hell is bad and it is a threat. To be clear "punishment" is a threat, and is negative reinforcement. This as is discussed in the video, is the pressure that keeps the caller subscribed to the faith, and normally Pascal's Wager is debunked by bringing up other contradicting similar faiths. But in effort to alleviate pressure and not just apply counteracting ones, I say consider the character of this position, Would an almighty being that has good intentions use such a tactic?'

The donkey story gets even worse if you consider that he wasn't even suprised that his donkey suddenly started to talk. I mean let's assume you pass by a donkey and then that donkey suddenly starts speaking to you. Would you then just look at the donkey and speak with it like you would with a human, like it is nothing special at all? Like not being suprised at all? Numbers 22:27-30 "27 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat it with his staff. 28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” 29 Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” 30 The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said."

Dan-dy3ft keeps preaching that we need to stop thinking independently and just accept the demands of his ideology that we wall ourselves off in a closed epistemic system. This is what makes particularly cultish ideologies, religious and otherwise, so dangerous.

I don't think he's a troll at all, in fact I think he's your everyday honest Christian who believes whatever he's told and when he reads the bible he likes the interpretations he's told are true. I think it makes for pretty good calls.

@@michaelmay5453 This isn't his first time calling, he's a regular troll and it's really getting old.
