I think 80% of fitness has gone in a great direction. I think the other 20% is basically being polluted by social media influencers and the fitness industry putting out unrealistic expectations for what essentially is body perfection.

Something I think you overlooked a bit was the community. Back in the Golden Age, even bodybuilders competing against each other would train and chill together, like Arnold, Ed Corney and Franco. Now there's a bit of a disconnect between bodybuilders and the sense of community feels weaker and more artificial.
@MarriedWithPizza

More competition, for sure. Back then there were less bodybuilders, while now with the excess of different views on anything, with so many different information, it seems everyone is very divided on everything.

It could be because back then there was no social media and even though they competing against each other they thought about being part of elite group, pushing each other to the limits. Now there is so many, plus because of social media there is more pressure on individualism.

Great video, you are making my days better with these educational and entertaining videos. I started to work again on my body before summer, now in much better shape than last year. Exercising can get really hard though, but It always makes me feel better. Last year I had almost 400 lbs in body weight. One day I just started moving more, then slow running then I started doing weighted exercises and I was eating clean by following meal plan I got from site Next Level Diet. Today I have 250 lbs and I am happy like I never been in my life.

Great video! From a woman's perspective who has been in the fitness world a long time, I think the inclusive ways and normalizing of women in the gyms working on their bodies is great. What I think is a big negative is the fact that there is still a huge disconnect with the younger population and working out in unhealthy ways to achieve a "perfect" body which we all grow up to find that that "perfect" doesn't exist. Instead, it should be about progressing in ways that make you feel good and maintain a healthy body weight in the process. It is great to have goals but don't lose track to what reality is and what's going too far. Maybe it's just what I've experienced as a millennial woman that is highly involved in social media...
@kristinwright1934
@kristinwright1934 2 жыл бұрын
Just seen your comment and I believe social media can be good but also bad in that sense because everything looks staged “perfect” on social media and for people like me (whose lost weight and now looking into also losing weight but being strong/healthy) it can be a catch 22. So sometimes I see stuff that discourages me but I got into the mindset I’m in the gym for ME and that I enjoy it and not look at it like a chore, if that makes sense lol

It can be healthier these days for sure. But IMO people eat too much artificial food as long as it says ''lots of protein''. And you can eat/drink everything you need from a powder bag. Im not a doctor, but the amount of cancers and intestinal deceases these days. Thats my two cents what comes to nutrition.

I have a couple books from Steve Reeves, Silver Era legend, and it's interesting because he advocated training 3x a week, full body, and ate a balanced and pretty modern healthy diet. He talked about how you needed to rest to grow. Very ahead of his time, seems like the Golden Era guys forgot a lot of these principles.

how popular bodybuilding is yet the topic of anabolic steroids is completely hidden under the rug. You have pros who ive watched gain millions of followers and hundreds of thousands of people tuning into the Olympia yet no one talks about cycling on hormones openly. There's all these people super into bodybuilding going to the gym looking up to these popular bodybuilders and the main part is not even talked about at all. Using steroids is such an integral part in bodybuilding all these years and even more so now with social media yet it is never talked about at all

Fitness has changed for the better, but competitive bodybuilding has changed for the worse. In the golden age, it wasn't about being as big as possible, it was about being aesthetically pleasing. Arnold won Olympia six times in a row from 1970-1975 and once more in 1980, and he did it looking like two triangles: wide shoulders and chest with a narrow waist, and wide legs. Modern competition bodybuilders are just focused on who can put on the most mass, regardless of whether it actually looks good or is in any way symmetrical. It's not an exaggeration to say that most male competitive bodybuilders look pregnant when they're not flexing their abs (pictures from the side between poses are VERY revealing - the Palumboism is real). Modern bodybuilders can't do a stomach vacuum because they just have so much mass that they can't get it out of the way, despite the fact that _your abs aren't supposed to be huge!_ But they're a muscle, so they get grown as much as possible because modern bodybuilding. I used to enjoy watching bodybuilding competitions growing up, but seeing what it's become I'm really glad I didn't get seriously into it, because the state of the sport now is embarrassing.

If Will creates his own jokes he should be a comedian or whoever is writhing them, should be getting a taise. “Harder is better” is what tattoo on my lower back says😂

For ME Modern day Eating Old School training in most cases. What I see many people overthink about training and do many addidional work, while skiping basics in the process

That right there is an epidemic of thought that has affects many people. But then again I don’t know which of these epidemics of incorrect thinking (in fitness) affects the most people and how badly/ how much damage each one does to compare and say definitively: “this is the biggest issue plaguing the minds of people wanting fitness to be part of their life/daily life”.

A lot of stuff that's en vogue today is also completely unnecessary if not just harmful and also a huge waste of money. Overall things are better today, but definitely not strictly better.

your opinion’s more likely to be truer than Will’s cuz it at least isn’t so sure things are entirely/strictly better now. It’s a mix as usual with almost any topic
