please note that intra-bursal steroid injection is only indicated in case of inflammatory bursitis(secondary to RA or GOUT) but of no role in case of traumatic bursitis and infective bursitis. correct me plz if I'm wrong

The orthopedic surgeon I consulted flatly refuses to drain mine. He says it could get infected and also is less kelt to come back again. He instructed me to keep it compression wrapped and sent me on my way. It’s been two weeks with no improvement at all.

@@nathanoneill2362 It has not gone down at all. No pain unless I probe under it. The recommended wrapping in compression bandage is very awkward to do on my own, uncomfortable (bunches up on inside of elbow) and makes my hand swell. I’m not able to wear it 23 hours a day. Non compliant patient I guess. I haven’t decided about whom to see for a 2nd. We only have 2 hospital networks. Figure any affiliated doc’s would tell me the same thing even in a different practice. Guess I’ll go to an ortho in the other hospital network. Years ago I had knee injections with 0 problems. Not sure why draining this should be more prone to causing infection. Frustrating.

Janet. Your doctor is correct. If it hasn't improved after 6 weeks then drainage may be necessary. This is the way it's done now.

My sister had to have this procedure. She was crying from fear and I told her she would feel one injection only so she went ahead and had the procedure and felt so good afterword. Don't back down from this from this procedure.

I will do it soon in the knee. About time I stopped worrying and do it. Lack of moving caused lots of problems to me, all from a knee bursitis

@@rariehlani1344 knee is easy just lay back and let them drain it ...feels weird as hell and only a small little pinch at 1st and i hate needles they make me want to vomit

@@warwick724 ye, sure will. Odd thing is I only have inflamination there with no excess liquid. Read that's its a more rare type of bursitis

My younger brother is patient of elbow bursitis now a days. Since a week nearest orthopaedic surgeon guide us and do the treatment of remove fluid from swelling elbow. Daily dressing it but fluid day by day automatically generated at tge same. What can we do? Operation/surgery not recommended due to brother is handicap/cerebral palsy child. He is 22 years old. Please guide any antibiotics which may effect to remove fluid.

My doctor refuses to do this. It’s incredibly frustrating, the elbow has no soreness or redness and is not getting better. He said to avoid activities where the elbow is in contact with surfaces, yet gave me some dinky fucking wrap that’s too tight?? How is that not contact on the bursa. Feel like it was just the route that involved less effort so he could go about his work day

It's not about being lazy, doing an injection or drainage can be needlessly invasive. It's standard practice to try any non-invasive treatments possible before resorting to those. This sort of problem is commonly treated with a tight wrap, like you said, in as little as a week. It's a completely reasonable solution. It's not the doctor's fault for not giving you the "quick and dirty fix".
