Great review! I'm thinking of getting this soon with a set of custom keycaps, I hope it will last a couple years as I have bad experiences with my previous keyboards lasting only within a year of usage [Keys randomly stop working/ double key repeats] (Armageddon MKA-8C and Logitech G413 Carbon).

Hey!! Thank you so much! This is a great board but if you have a bit more budget, I suggest getting the RK M75 or the RKH81. But you won't go wrong with the R87 as well! Dang. Sometimes random keys or double typing means dust. Did you try to clean or replace the switches? I am unsure if your keebs are hotswap though.

@@XaclainRecords unfortunately they aren't hot swappable, but I'm thinking of getting isopropyl alcohol to clean the switches as compressed air didn't work :p

@@Yuraichu oh that might not be the best idea. For keys that are double typing, try to blow in air. It might help. For switches not working anymore, it may need replacing and desoldering is a the only way.

7:32 The underside usb connection is not a downside. Its actually a plus if you have other things like notebooks or whatever on your desk which could knock or damage the usb plug/port on the keyboard so having a recessed port or (permanent) grommet wired cable is better. With an underside usb port, I can slide the keyboard right up to my pile of books without putting any pressure the usb cable/port.

Heyyy! Thank you for your input. Thats good that its a good thing for you. Maybe its me because of how big my fingers are so its a bit cumbersome to plug in the cable and the fact that I cant use custom cables to match my setup is what turns me off to this kind of port. But thats just me tho.

Heyyy! Thank you for watching! 1. Yes the keycaps are OEM. 2. Yes these can be replaced with XDA Keycaps and wouldn't be problem. But comfortability in using with XDA might vary depending on you. I personally like XDA on ortholinear keebs.

I'll be getting this whenever I get my setup along with the amko cream blue switches and jelly purple switches, I'm getting a razer tkl for my main non custom keyboard and also if this one breaks but, I want a green keycap set do you know of any that will work mostly from amazon or even cheal ones from etsy. Heyyy!! This keyboard is a great choice and those switches are good too. The razer TKL is kinda okay but I think the newer 75% version is better. Hey there! Nice review. I am interested in buying the keyboard. I noticed you mentioned you would confirm if it was gasket mounted in a following video but I couldn't find that video in your channel. Can you confirm the type of mount if you went through with the teardown? It would be very helpful since I would like to do some basic mods like tape mod, band aid mod. I am trying to decide between the RK R87 and the RK 87. There is a 30 EUR price difference. If the only difference is tri mode or wired, then I am okay with the RK R87. Do you have an idea about this? Thank you for your time!

Heyyyy!! The R87 is a great choice. Unfortunately, I haven’t done the teardown yet as I have been preoccupied with other projects. I will make one as soon as I can for this and the ACR75 V2. I have not confirmed if it is gasket mount but nonetheless, it is a great keyboard at the price. And from what I know, that is the main difference between the RK87 and RK R87 is the tri mode. Have you considered getting the RK H81? It’s a really good keyboard tbh and here in the Philippines is more or less the same price.

I travel to India in a few months but I can't find the H81 there too. My initial option was the keychron v3 or yunzii 75z but that is nearly twice the price of the rk r87. So for now this looks to be the most best value for price.

Heyy! Yes! Custom keycaps will work. You won't have any compatible issues with this. Because it's a standard TKL layout, most keycap sets have it. 😁

Hii! What is your budget range? For 75% or 84% keebs, the RKH81 is really good for the price. If you are in the Philippines, the Rakk Tala is pretty good too.

Heyyy! Yea you are right! The H81 is better but if you have more budget, I suggest going for the RK M75. I'm testing it now and its far better than the RKH81. The knob does a lot, like volume control and switching from modes like wireless to wired and etc. It also has a screen that shows battery life, what connection your on and the volume level of your device. For the RK Silver, I have not tried it though so I can't say. Sky Cyan is really nice as per what people are saying. Currently, for the RK M75, I am using the RK Yellows and I got to say, I'm loving these. :D

@@hardstucksilver15 hey! I'm not entirely sure yet if the M75 is gasket mounted but from the looks of it, it just might be. The merit of having a gasket mount is the more cushioned-feel when typing and the more cleaner sound. The M75's knob is more functional as it can change the volume of the device you are connected to and change the connections you have, either wired, bluetooth or 2.4ghz. It also has a screen. Everything else, from my initial impression of the M75, is the same as the RKH81.

Hello!! Besides additional features like tri-mode, a better case like aluminum, etc., there is no real reason to buy an expensive keyboard. If you are looking for something good out of the box, these budget keebs should be more than enough.

Hii! Both are great boards for the price but it would depend on what size you want to have. The RK71 has arrow keys while the RK61 does not but is more compact. For a little more money, I would choose either the RK G68 or the RK H81.

But I actually prefer the rk branding in the top right to the (honestly, cheap looking and useless) knob. Ik that h81 has a 3750mah battery vs 1850 on 89, also uses sky can switches instead of lemon.

I agree. The screen would be in a perfect world. Haha. Something cheap and reliable but I doubt we can have that for now. I agree on a functional knob. Would love something that can be changed in VIA xD. I bet that additional cost as well but maybe worth it in a customizability standpoint.

the spacebar is so much better than my ducky one 2's holy i might cop just because of how rattly my spacebar is; the stock stabs are pretty terrible and i am too lazy to mod

Hiii! I'm not entirely sure but from the RKH81 wired mode had a polling rate of 1000 so I think its safe to assume its the same for the RK R87 as well :D

Hiii! I have not had the chance to use or review the Tecware Phantom+ but from what I've seen, they are basically the same, except for the following: The Tecware has tons of foams already, as per their shopee page and the USB connection for it is not like the R87 which is found in the underside of the board. Also, the tecware phantom plus (as long as its not the elite) has a floating keycap design (from what I've seen in shopee), meaning the keycaps sides are shown. So this is really a preference thing now as both are at the same prices. If you wanted the Tecware Phantom Elite+, then I'd say that is the better keeb.

Hii!! I have not tried the RK87 yet so I can't give a definitive answer. But, from what I know, the RK87 is tri-mode. So I think it would depend on the budget for the enthusiast. The R87 though, sounds pretty good out of the box. And if I were to choose a RK board right now, I'd choose the RKH81! xD

okay, I've been using the keyboard for a couple of weeks now. The software sucks but I guess that's a good compromise for the price. I read that RK switches are just rebranded Outemus. Also, the hotswap sockets apparently only fit Outemu style pins. tbh, I don't have an idea on how they compare to other switches because it's just my second ever mech board and they're both on the budget side. I had an outemu blue before and I like the reds more. Looks like the stabs in this one are pre-lubed, and there's a layer of foam you can see when you take off the spacebar. no idea kung pati switches pre-lubed din tho. Maybe you'll explore that in the mod video.

@@nicemelbs Hello! Yeah the software isn't the best but at least it's something. xD From my experience, the Outemu hotswap sockets can fit most switches. I have not yet tried it on the RK R87, but it should. Stabs are most likely pre lubed but not the best so it would be best to mod it. I will check all these out once I open this keeb. I've been having setbacks sa video production ngayon cause I'm dealing with health issues. Will try to be back on track soon.
