On My Radar: Nintendo Parnter Mini Showcase: 6/28/22

I'm very sorry this took so long. The main factors were 1.) Trying to come up with a new format to get these types of videos out sooner. 2.) My Gamecube started having trouble reading some discs. 3.) Apparently my editing software starts to have problems if a project takes longer than 2 weeks. Meaning, I had to start this project all over again... fun.
But at least I got it done and I can have these types of videos out much sooner. And with this done... I need to record more Gamecube, and Gameboy family games while I have the chance, while working on a list or the Game Gauntlet series I want to get off the ground. Special thanks to those in the discord for sharing their thoughts near the end of the video. Enjoy. :)

The Battle Network Legacy Collection is easily my most hyped game from this Direct. I love the Battle Network games, and I have been waiting for this collection since the Classic games got their collections. Definitely on my radar!

I had to do a double-take when I saw the direct date in your title. I thought I'd accidentally traveled back in time for a second. >Persona 5 Royal not on your radar BOY. YOU AND I ARE ABOUT TO HAVE A PROBLEM. In all seriousness, I get that you're an insanely busy guy. And yes, P5R is an extremely long game (100 hours just to finish the base story, and I've heard you can add another ~30 hours on top of that if you meet the conditions to unlock the third semester that's new to the Royal version of P5). It will take commitment and dedication on your part to get through it. Absolutely. But I promise you with every fiber of my being that it is so so sooooooo worth it. It asks for a lot of your time, yes, but it does not squander even a second of it. There is just so much to see and do that once it hooks you in, you won't WANT to play anything else until you've seen and done it all. The battle system is incredibly addictive and satisfying, the word "stylish" doesn't even begin to describe how amazing the UI and menus are, the soundtrack for this single game rivals the entire KH series for my favorite soundtrack of all-time, and this game will make you care about the NPCs more than any other RPG likely ever will. Seriously, don't let the anime aesthetics fool you. This is not some run-of-the-mill anime-esque dating sim with combat. I keep forgetting this game is rated M, and for good reason. Persona 5 can get DARK when it wants to. It tackles so many complex themes about the mind, society, and human connection, and the messages it sends feel somehow even MORE relevant now given the state of the real world these past few years than they did when the game first came out in 2017. When you immerse yourself in this world and the lives and stories of these characters - both playable and non-playable alike - the game rewards you in spades for it. Persona 5 is not without its own share of flaws, but it is one of the greatest RPGs I have ever played and was one of the best games of last gen. The Royal version comes with so much additional content and quality of life improvements that are far too numerous for me to list off here. Plus, it being on the Switch now is perfect because it's portable and you can pick it up and put it down whenever you want; which is something I've found difficult on the Playstation versions. And I give all of this praise as someone who did not care about Persona in the slightest until Joker got in Smash. I tried the game on a whim after that and I will never regret it. I promise you won't either. And if you ever do get around to taking the plunge, PLEASE let me know. I'd love to hear all about it 🙂

for me, the big on my radar games are: Battle Network Collection - The first game was my intro to the franchise & one of my first RPGs so I have a LOT of nostalgia for this series. INSTANT buy the second I can afford it --------- Live A Live - I am a lover of RPGs & me & some of my friends know the more niche stuff so my reaction on the reveal back in that Direct that also had Klonoa's reveal was a "I never thought I'd hear that name again". I might be currently playing the final chapter after having pre-ordered the game. ------ The Persona games - Favorite franchise. I bought a Vita just so I could play Golden after watching an LP YEARS AGO & have never looked back. I was streaming 5's rhythm game WHEN JOKER GOT ANNOUNCED FOR SMASH because that collection launched that week (that was one hell of a DM to get while live). I am ABSOLUTELY BUYING ALL 3 ON SWITCH WHEN I CAN DESPITE HAVING BEATEN THEM ALL BEFORE ------ Sonic Frontiers - Was the IGN previews iffy? Yes. Am I still excited for an open "zone" Sonic game with a skill tree. Also yes.

I don't think KH3 being a Cloud port is excusable given the fact that they ARE going native for Nier. It's just more of Square being Square.

As someone whose introduction to the Mega Man franchise was through the Battle Network anime, seeing the Legacy Collection got me plenty hyped (2023, though, that's what'll kill me). Pac-Man World looks fun. Never played it before, but then, that didn't stop me from getting Klonoa. Playing Live A Live right now. Just finished Present Day and played a bit of Prehistoric Era. Loving the combat, and the HD-2D looks gorgeous as always. I'm always a sucker for RPGs with a unique visual style (see above), so Legend of Wright is definitely on my radar. I've never been someone who looks down on most Sonic games just because, so Frontiers is looking good, too. As someone who basically loved all the DQXI party members, getting to play a new game with one of the more compelling characters already has me stoked. Heck, I've even been playing through the post-game just to prepare. And finally, while I haven't seen enough to make any final judgments, I'll being keeping an eye on Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, if only because adventure games are something I've always wanted to get into (same with Monkey Island, but like CJ, I don't have as much history with the series).

I actually just got Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle back in December, and yeah, it's pretty good. Here's hoping Sparks of Hope ends up being good as well. Also interested in Portal: Companion Collection, partly because that would likely be the second game in my collection that mom would actually want to play (first being Pokemon Snap).

Live A Live and Crisis Core (even though it didn't show up on the Direct, it was announced close to the Direct) are both pick ups when I can. Live A Live looks fun, I love Crisis Core (probably more than FF7). But I'm also excited as Square's releasing a bunch of their classic RPGs on Switch it's making me optimistic of a re-release or remaster for Brave Fencer Musashi
