Born in Rochester, New York, and left as soon as I lost an opportunity to run away to a circus or when I was18 years old. Eastman Kodak and Xerox began in Rochester. Names not mentioned who had lived in Rochester were Son House and Emma Goldman. As alway I have enjoyed your visits; it is an updated Ramblin’ Otis Gibbs. 👍

Todd’s weekly streams Live from the Purple Building were really great through the last couple of years. His show (and other covers and talks about JJW) about Jerry Jeff Walker right after he passed was incredible. So informative and you could feel the love for JJW dripping from him. Thanks for helping me find Todd (I had seen photos and ads for him years ago, but never heard anything until after you posted the John Prine on mushrooms chat. That reminds me, taking mushrooms with Todd is on my bucket list.

Thee Todd Snider episode of TFGAD Podcast is one of my favorites. It is rare to find a interview that is so authentic and real. Lot's of podcasters try to encourage their guest to drink or partake in other recreational products to get the guest to open up....not many people call and book 2am Tuesday appointments 😀

Thanks so much Otis for another amazing Saturday chat ...Todd Snider is one of the most underrated singer/songwriters around. His song," Can't Complain" is so very good...Todd simply sings Truth. I can only imagine the interesting gigs you shared with him...blessings on you both from this old singer/songwriter from the foothills of Mt. Rainier in Washington State. Much love...

I love the story about John Prine, Todd and others being tired as hell from flying to Ireland (I think it was Ireland) and the young driver heads the wrong direction. John politely pointed out that he thought he might be headed the wrong direction. After about an hour the driver realized he had gone the wrong way and waste 2 more hours of these guys time. John didn’t take it out on the kid. He was just kind and understanding. Todd is a great ambassador for great songwriters. He’s one himself. Be well Otis

I really love your story telling Otis. I haven’t heard Todd’s skills yet, but don’t under estimate your own talent. I especially love how you always remain positive and try to put your best foot forward in all you do. And figuring out how to live best and do what you love-well, that’s a journey we might all be on. My music life, after 40 years a working percussionist (and an architect by day), changed quite a bit when I moved to Japan in 2015. I hope I can re-establish myself here and work with more talent, because after all, I am just a drummer. Keep up the good work my friend!

Wish I could have gone to one of your shows, but the closest location was still pretty far away. Either way, I'm glad it went good, and I'm always happy to hear about your experiences on the road! To answer your question about "cramming as much life into life as possible," this is also something I've thought about before, and my main advice and what I say is the most lifeful day is when you have lots of variety. To me, the best kind of day is one with some shopping, some driving, and some time with family and friends. Keep up the great work Otis!

Amazing Otis ! What Great experience. Snider is a gem … love his stories … I read his book, “never met a story I didn’t like”, many times - as a low key small town singer song writer trying to get around - I always pick that book up when I’m feeling like this thing you do /what Todd does / and what I try to do more as my sole living … when it get’s me down - that book aways reinvigorates my desire to keep chopping at the bit. Those Stories …. I be been working hard and steeling snider’s 60% story & comedy / 40% songs approach as a solo acoustic act and it definitely entertains and works much better than flying through big set lists at record speed with no talk/laughs …. Anyway great stuff! Keep on keeping on !

Love these weekend hangouts, Otis - thank you. Also, next time you're in Glenwood Springs, CO, try the 19th St. Diner. I had a very similar experience to your Owl Diner one, there last Nov. while passing through. It wasn't as cheap as the Northern Ontario diners that catered to loggers and truckers in my youth (with perogies for breakfast - sooo good!), but damn, the food was SO GOOD. Only just started watching your videos on KZbin today and loving them. Anyone who manages to mention Todd Snider and Jack Kerouac catches my attention. I’m from Ireland but visited the US as a student in the summer of 1982, I’d read lots of Kerouac and one of my favourites was Maggie Cassidy, set in Lowell. I had to visit and see the grave. Now that you’ve mentioned it I think after 40 years a return visit is due, must remember to take breakfast at the Owl Diner. Also loved your Shawn Camp interview about Guy Clark my favourite song writer. 👍

Another great video Otis. I was surprised to hear you mentioned Nova Scotia. I'm originally from Newfoundland, Canada. Furthest eastern province, actually an island. If you don't know anything about it you gotta do some research. It's a one of a kind place in the world steeped in rich history. We have a music culture built on jigs and reels. Alot of it reminds me of 3/4 timing old country music mixed with Irish influence. If I could suggest anyone to check out would be Dick Nolan, Ron Hynes is a great place to start. Love all your videos!

from Wiki Lisle seems to be a very small town outside Binghamton. Not sure what there is to do there but people have moved from the city to NY State in droves. Look at real estate prices in Ulster County NY and see what $100K gets you. Not a whole lot. Thanks and hope to see you some time. Quick facts Lisle is a village in Broome County, New York, United States. The population was 320 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was named after a community in France. The village of Lisle is in the southeast part of the town of Lisle and is north of Binghamton. Wikipedia

Hi Otis, I agree 100% on Rochester, my mothers family plus my 8 cousins & multiple aunts & uncles are from there and the suburb of Irondequoit, and while there aren't many mansions there, all the streets are wide, lined with just huge sycamore & oak trees, and although it was a 2 day trip there from Nashville, I always loved being there in the summer (They say they only have 2 seasons, being Winter & the 4th of July...) & I want to go back soon. Just Fyi, Eastman Kodak of film fame was a real anchor corporation there in Rochester that I'm sure built some/many of the mansions you saw, my uncle worked there 30+ years processing Kodak movie film in a dark room for Hollywood studios. Best to You & Todd!
