It also works well as pizza crust, crackers, square sandwich bread etc. However for these larger pieces or to feed more mouths quickly I line a jelly roll or cookie sheet with parchment paper and bake it all at once at 400 -420 degrees for 15-30 minutes . I like raw garlic ground up with the lentils and I sprinkle raw sesame seeds on top before baking. Italian spices work well. I usually soak 1 cup of lentils over night to make a pizza crust size. All are delicious!

I landed on this video by accident, watched it, found it intriguing… I haven't tried much vegan or vegetarian things, I just wanted to make my own tortillas (I only need like 2 of them a week) I cook for one. This discovery (for me) was so incredible, they actually taste so great just on their own, a bit on the sweet side but you can totally adjust that to your taste so easily! I will never have to buy tortillas ever again!!!
@chantaltherien16825 жыл бұрын
Those things are delicious!
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Chantal!! I am so glad to hear that you like them! Check out my new video on baking them, it's called oven-baked flatbreads or something like that. They come out a little differently and that they would hold something on top of them, sort of like pizza, but the toppings would need to be drier, and would not roll up like a tortilla. But they are faster and easier to make. This gives you some flexibility as to how you want to use them depending on which method you choose. Thank you so much for watching! ❤

Good stuff. Appreciate the short, concise video, to the point with no bs that seems to plague about 90 percent of youtube vids. Really impressed that the lentils hold together so well with nothing added, oil, etc. A 25 lb. bag of the lentils would be great to have on hand as a survival food.

My breakfast is basically two cups of lentils soaked and prepped just like this.... And then taken with tomato sauce, and a nice salad. Big hearty breakfast. 100gram of protein, 1200kcals... No problems.. sometimes with some fruit juices or fruit smoothies as well. My lunch is eating out in a vegan restaurant... Another 50 gram of protein minimum. My dinner is loads of white rice with atleast one cup of red lentil Dal fry recipe, potato onion fries, some kinda sabzi.... Again, easy 60-80gram protein without fail. So by the end of the day I have had around 220-240 gram protein. And then beer, loads of loads of beer. Built 20inch arms and a 100kilo strict curl and a 150 kilo strict overhead press in the last 5 years... At 20 percent body fat, so very lean, no gut. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Once you have had 100 gram protein in that, the rest of the day will be pretty easy to deal with.

I sprout lentils to use in my Sourdough bread. Sometimes I have too many and toss in the dehydrator. They have a delicious aroma, and I have ground them to use in Gluten-free breads. In India, they combine rice and lentils blended to fluff, and leave overnight to ferment. It makes a crispy tortilla. The hulless lentils are the best for blending, like the red ones. Black horse gram lentils have the most protein, but have annoying hulls when I sprout them. Indians use them with the hulls removed to make their fermented breads.

@@LivingLambsVeganKitchen Great ideas. I was so grateful to find an easy recipe, using inexpensive ingredients, that can replace bread for me. I miss bread a lot.. I am somewhat addicted but it's just bad for me. Not in a trendy way. I am allergic to Gluten. To find something so inexpensive is super. Here, in South Africa, we pay a lot of money for small packets of special ingredients. I simply loathe Stevia. What would you recommend as an alternative sweetener? Answer if you can ... if its easy 🙏
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen5 жыл бұрын
@@ccc4102, I am so glad this is working for you! Let me tell you, another way that you can cook them is like this. Put some parchment on a cookie sheet, and then pour the Blended batter onto the cookie sheet. Spread it into an 8 by 8 square, approximately, and you don't have to worry about it being perfectly even. Bake it at 350 for 15 or 20 minutes. I use a toaster oven so that I don't have to preheat it. If you use a regular oven, you will need to preheat it. You will know it is done when you can peel the parchment off it fairly easily. If you catch it right when it's done, it will be soft. If you let it go on longer, it will be crunchy. It is excellent both ways. It will also puff up, but you can just squish down the puffed part. It will sometimes break, but it really doesn't matter. I use it open face. It is delicious. Ask to sweeteners, it really depends on what you're trying to swing. For example, for breakfast cereal, I blend half of a banana with water, and I use that instead of milk or sweetener. It is wonderful! In banana ice cream or other sweets, I use dates. If you are looking for something for coffee or tea, I don't think I can help you there, except maybe to suggest a fruit juice concentrate, but that will affect the flavor. Who knows, you might like it, especially if it's tea! ❤

I’ve made these before but can’t get it not to stick. I’ve even tried it with oil on the pan and still sticks. I’d love to figure it out because I like the simplicity and nutrition aspect of it. I don’t like to use non stick but have one eco green non stick and it still sticks. So...I added the rest of the batter to some regular GF vegan pancake batter and it worked great! Had some oil in it.
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Janae! First, thanks so much for watching and passing along your question! If it sticks, these are the only reasons I can think of [1] the pan isn't sufficiently nonstick (others have said a well-seasoned cast iron works well), [2] you aren't cooking them long enough before trying to flip, [3] the pan isn't hot enough. That said, that was a great idea to nutritionally "boost" your GF pancake batter! I have a baked version that is also wonderful -- you could try that. I actually make it more often than the pan method because it's so fast and easy! I'm thinking of making a simple tomato sauce (Olive Oil, sautee some garlic, chili flakes, oregano, can of whole peeled tomatoes, use a hand blender to make it all smooth, then toss an onion cut in half and some basil springs on top so they release their flavour but can easily be taken out with tongs after simmering on low heat for an hour) and putting it on these, before going into an oven, as a pizza base substitute.
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen5 жыл бұрын
Hi, 4th! I am not sure that this will hold up to a wet filling. I usually use a fairly dry filling on them. Another thought would be to use a barrier, a moisture barrier, between the flatbread and the sauce. For example, cashew butter, or if you eat animal products, you could use cheese. But you see where I'm going. Something that will prevent the moisture of the sauce from soaking the tortilla. If you try it, let me know how it comes out! Thank you for watching! ❤

Hello from the UK. I made these flatbreads last night and they were fine. I added salt and pepper to the batter as I had them with a bean chilli which worked well. But I am confused by the instruction to use teaspoons (eating, not measuring). My regular teaspoons (for stirring milk in tea, eating small desserts) are 5mls, tablespoons are 15mls (used for stirring, dishing up etc) but then there's dessert spoons at 10mls (used for breakfast cereals& desserts - clue in the name!). And if I'm getting really obsessive there's soup spoons also at 10mls. Sorry that's a bit OTT. Anyway could you clarify what sort / size of teaspoon is used in the recipe. Many thanks for your video.
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen4 жыл бұрын
Well howdy, there, Josh! Our measuring teaspoons and tablespoons are the same as yours (5 ml and 10 ml, respectively), but I dribbled water into our eating teaspoon, and came to about 7 ml, so about 1/2 measuring Tablespoon. So a heaping teaspoon (eating) would be similar to 1 Tablespoon (measuring), maybe slightly less. I'm so glad hey worked out for you! You can blend all kinds of stuff into the batter. I've done 1/2 t. curry powder + 1 garlic clove. Yesterday (making the baked version I have posted) I added garlic powder and basil (although I stirred in the basil after blending). Before baking, I sprinkled it with diced onions. It was fantastic! Had it with salad. Having the same today. Thanks so much for watching! Praise God through Jesus Christ for ways like this of sharing things with folks all over the world!

@@joshrogers7816 , I love the baked version, and you can do the baked version with quinoa, too, if you have that on hand. Here's how (I've only done it for the first time yesterday, so times/temps are a little vague, but are flexible anyway): Rinse your quinoa (it's supposed to have some kind of not-good-for-you coating or something), then blend equal parts quinoa and water - I used 1/4 c (45g lentils, 60 ml water). It will be a bit thicker than the lentils. Spread it out (say, 3-4 mm-ish), and bake on parchment around 375-ish (190c) for around 20 min. Look to see if it's browning. If so, flip it. If you can't flip it, bake it longer. If you use parchment (rather than silpat) you can turn it with the parchment still on it. Bake for 5 min and then peel off the parchment. Bake another 10 min or so. It's really yummy. A sort of crispy exterior with mashed-potato texture insides, but still very sturdy. Had min with eggplant tapenade, which I hope to post next week. Cheers! Praise God through Jesus Christ for so many incredible ways to enjoy His wonderous provision!

Curious if you've prepared these by dehydrating them instead of cooking. Same texture and end result?
@LivingLambsVeganKitchen4 жыл бұрын
Hi, again, Sun! You know, I'm not sure. I think a raw lentil, is, in effect, a dehydrated lentil. So if you blend, add water, and dehydrate, you get dried lentils! LOL! So I think you'd have basically what you have, except as a sort of crackerish powder. My dehydrator goes up to 165, which would, I guess, eventually cook it, but I still think you'd have a crunchy -- or crumbly -- cracker. You know what you can do with a dehydrator, though -- and you'll love this -- make oil free hummus, dehydrate it, and grind it to a powder in a blender or food processor. Then you have "just add water" hummus. Add that to your survival list!!! :) Praise God through Jesus Christ for the ingenuity He graced us with to invent such wonderful devices to process and prep the marvelous and bounty He shares with us!
