My second least favorite thing about the Fanatec eco system, first being how expensive it is to use aftermarket wheels is not being able to add hub extensions or switch out the QR system all together. I had DD2 for about two years and my biggest complaint was the wobbly QR on a 25nm $1500 wheel base. Had they released that QR2 last spring I’d probably still own the DD2. I can’t believe they still haven’t released that new QR but it really just reinforces my belief Fanatec doesn’t care about the Podium line or it’s highest spending customers. None of this new CSL stuff should have been released until the Podium line was squared away.

Im just glad they are moving on to a hopefully better system. Do the Moza and the Simagic wheels work the same? Even if it loses the circuit connection. I believe the ball pattern in their QRs aren´t NRG like, but they seem to be held on with a 70mm wheel pattern.

Simagic Alpha mini has a 50mm pattern so you would need a conversion kit. Not sure about the Moza. I have no personal experience with it. They never followed through sending me a review unit unfortunately. Think they forgot about me. Lol

Fanatec makes a lot of great things but I agree they really do their best to lock you into whatever makes them the most money. Like I said in the video, they are a business and they are free to do what they want and as a consumer, I don't have to buy from them but for console users, they really are the best choice for the money so it's really wrong of Fanatec to make choices that force the customer to only buy Fanatec items. Thrustmaster and Logitech do the same thing. I suppose it's a console mentality.

Yeah I had their CSL Elite Pedals with Loadcell for a year. Brilliant pedals for the money. But you don't have to look far to see all their shady marketing spout, everything is an extra with them, boost kit, tuning kit, etc etc. By the time you are done you just feel scammed into paying for more. And then with the problems of shipping and deliveries and never ending stock issues, I don't know why people just don't spend a bit more and get something worth it. Yes they might be the only choice for console gaming but to be fair is SIM racing on a console apart from grand turismo really worth it. If Cammus had a tenth of fanatecs marketing budget they would blow them out of the water. It's just nice to see all the new companies on the seen like azetek, Cammus, SIMmagic creating real competition. As it's low end with Logitech and super high end with simucube, no wonder fanatec takes the majority of the market. Shame about moza though, they do seem rushed and crap. Great channel Douglas.

See, this is why I didn't get the CSL DD. Don't even get me started on the boost kit that people are making themselves with ~30 bucks worth of parts. Same reason I dropped thrustmaster too, with their rj cable connections. If I had know about cammus a month ago I would have tried getting their base instead, since with it having buttons on the base itself I could just use some random cheap nardi bootleg rim and not worry about spending money on a simracing wheel. Now I'm curious to see how the mini compares to the cammus.

I don't think there is a conversion that will make the buttons work from the wheelbase directly. I think you can do a QR and USB conversion so you could connect it and go straight to USB port on your PC.

Buy the Cammus wheelbase with a Cammus button box and wheel. Take the wheel rim off the button box and slap on a gt/formula style rim and you got yourself a nice setup for F1/gt with paddle shifters encoders, buttons, switches etc. And then pick up an NRG 10 ball qr and attach the round rim that comes with the button box to that quick release since you don't need shifters/buttons on a drift setup.

You’ll only regret it if you want to use aftermarket wheels as you’ll have to buy ridiculously expensive Podium Hubs or even more expensive Universal Hubs. Even if you just wanna use a cheap $50 eBay wheel. When I had a DD2 I had to fork out $200 for Podium Hubs just to add a stand-alone steering wheel. No paddles or button plate. Now I have a SC2 Pro with an HRS XeroPlay QR and I only need to spend about $70 for a wheel side spigot to attach a wheel.

This video is not to make Fanatec users feel any certain type of way, I am making these videos to communicate the importance of going with already accepted standards and not creating your own just to force people deeper into the ecosystem you create. Thrustmaster does the same thing. I don't mention them as much because I don't think they make as quality of products as Fanatec and also I have much less experience with Thrustmaster; only having owned 2 of their products. I have owned 3 Fanatec wheelbases, the CSL Elite, DD1 (PS version) and the CSL DD. I sold my DD1 because of it's weight and I play mostly rally so I never used anywhere near 20nm so it was somewhat of a waste for me to own it. I sold that and the CSL elite before that. I still plan on keeping my CSL DD for now but I have been unhappy with many Fanatec choices for years now and this is just one more thing they do to limit the customer. They have plenty of choices honestly and they are mostly very high quality but you can't bargain with them, the prices are set and if they are out of your budget than you only have 2 options, save up the money or don't get it. This Cammus wheelbase is attractive cause you can literally get a wheel and base for around 6-700 dollars and be better off than many of the other offerings by other companies. For instance I could have a round rally/drift wheel with nothing else but a quick release attached, a go kart wheel with just the quick release and a gt3 or F1 kind of wheel with the button box and all the encoders and such. Even if you don't have a button box you could use the buttons on the wheelbase if you had no other option. It really is a thoughtful solution to the sim racing world. I feel bad for talking bad about the company you have invested much into but just know I have invested a lot into Fanatec as well so we are both in the same boat! ;) And all these topics aside, Fanatec does make a lot of great gear and you have probably their best two items, the V3's and the DD1/DD2. :) I think the V3's are one of the best on the market and it's one of the only things Fanatec didn't lock into their ecosystem by allowing any standard USB cable to be used as a standalone pedal set.

When I bought my Thrustmaster T150 from Best Buy for $200 I thought that was outrageous , two years ago if somebody would've suggested that I buy the DD1 and it's only $1200 I would've told them that they're out their f**king mind , I think sim racing hardware altogether is overpriced but I'm a plug-n-play type of person and ecosystems give you the plug-n-play convenience and I understand you'll pay more for that convenience especially with sim racing 🏎️

I'll see how much the different shipping options are. By boat usually takes 2-3 months though, depends on how fast I can get everything for my rig setup. If I go with cammus, I'm not sure if I should still go for the csl pedals lc setup or not. They are probably the best/cheapest decent option for pedals with load cell brake. Definitely getting a shh shifter, as that looks to be a really good budget option. Only thing missing then would be a decent budget handbrake setup

@@kharmastreams8319Cammus sells the wheel with paddle shifters, button box, qr, the wheel base, load cell pedals, a sequential shifter (hall effect sensor) handbrake (load cell I believe) and the entire rig to attach everything to for under 2k... ;) If I was new into SimRacing I'd be all over that shit! Lol
