Selection of mace weight along with the unique separation of the workout offers accessibility for complete novices, however taken as a whole the workout is nothing short of a gauntlet cast at the feet of any elite fitness barbarian. Mace training intrinsically offers advantages over linear training in employing power systems in full range of motion rather than fixed planes. The offset nature of the ball also requires intense stabilization, getting every fiber in your muscles to fire, much like in contact sports. The workout will push both cardio and power systems to the limit, while offering an active warmup and yoga cooldown to help keep you loose and healthy.
| History of the Mace |
Mace training dates back all the way to 13th century Persia, where the elite warriors and wrestlers of the day would train with the heavy Gada to condition their muscles for battle. The first Gada used in training were nothing more than stone attached to a bamboo staff, however when made for battle, the Gada were made often made of iron or bronze. Mace training continued into modern day India, where it began to trickle down into mainstream strongman training at the start of the 20th century. A recent resurgence in unconventional and functional training by elite athletes have put this ancient technique back on the forefront of cutting edge performance exercise.

I had major back surgery 5 months ago and have added the "Warrior Maker" to my recovery with a10lb mace & just moved up to a 15lb mace. This workout kicks my butt every time and has improved my core significantly. My intensity grows by the week with the mace and my steel clubs. Today I ordered the "Ultimate Steel Mace Workout" and will start it tomorrow (Monday). Thanks Aubrey, you're the man.

This is an amazing workout! I have always lifted weights but kinda tailored my workouts towards my goals as a martial artist rather than just trying to build "show muscles". This workout DEFINITELY fills in some gaps left by traditional weight lifting. Thanks for sharing it!
@izaakchater9165
@izaakchater9165 4 жыл бұрын
WHat gaps has it filled for martial arts? Do you feel stronger with grappling? Maybe you dont get sore as much or feel as injury prone? I train BJJ and Id like to tailor my other workouts towards it (especially while in lockdown) so if you could elaborate that would be awesome.
@Ten_Mil_Will
@Ten_Mil_Will 4 жыл бұрын
@@izaakchater9165 difficult to really pinpoint but I feel stronger in ways that matter more. In most of my weight lifting, I could exert decent amounts of force BUT it was while my body was braced in a particular position, isolating the muscle itself. Mace training, like loop style power bands (which i also use) help me get used to exerting large amounts of force from self braced positions. EVERYTHING has to work together to balance and exert. To see if it is for you, try this workout with a 12# (not standard weight) sledge hammer. I also find muscles that were previously not worked BUT you might not because I used to train BJJ and found it forces you to use muscles that get skipped over in lifting. So while you might not benefit from the "finding hidden muscle" aspect of it, you will probably still like how it forces you to control your positioning and balance under load.

I'm a 39 year old dad at 283lbs, I just finished this workout with a 16lbs sledgehammer. If I can do it, you have no excuse NOT to get after it. I'm determined to get back in shape and I know how hard this can be. Get yourself up and try this, even if it's with a lighter weight. It feels amazing to move my body in this way again. If you're into grappling, this workout is also pretty awesome. I'm getting back into BJJ and these movements are super useful for standing and throwing.

I was hoping someone would remind people that a sledgehammer has a similar weight balance to it. When I was 18 I would beat a steel blank until my hands had blisters for a workout. Don’t know how much it weighed but it was all steel (heavy bastard). Til a couple years ago, I’d never even heard of such a thing like this (outside of like mid evil fighting or something) still pretty cool tho

Just built a loadable head mace using 2" and 1" iron pipe. Weighs about 10lbs but can fill the head for more weight later, didn't know if I wasn't to shell out the cash for a mace so I made this to try out with. Will be buying one later just because how cool they look. Just finished the work out this morning. Need to do an alternate to the sword swing, knees cannot handle bending that much yet. Added a set of 360 clockwise and counter clockwise and a set of bicep curls.

Start with the 10 pounder...Your ego will naturally fight against that, but I've seen that "pussy" 10lbs qucikly humble fit and strong people 😅 It's a different beast - think kettlebell on the end of a broom stick. 7lb you'll outgrow pretty quick, 15lb is too much for the learning curve - it's possible, but you'll learn the absolute fundamentals better on a 10 pounder.

I couldnt afford to buy a mace or maces.. so i went to a metal yard and bought similar weighted sledgehammers. The muscle doesnt care what its lifting. As long as its lifting. Kia kaha tama toa. (Forever strong Warriors)
