You could've still sold the motherboards online I think. Some of the IC's may still be good so guys doing component repair could use them in one way or another... ...or I'm just weird and nobody does that with iPods xd If it goes for me, even the oldest crap, I tend to salvage as much as I can, down to transformers, any IC's or capacitors even. They come in handy every now and then. Everything else goes to e-waste. Also component repair is a fun thing to learn, granted it requires some electronic knowledge.

I repair thermal transfer printers for a living. The three places to be weary of when you get those things back are: 1 Fisheries, 2 Pipe inspectors, 3 Papermills. Sure, the outside doesn't smell that bad, but as soon as you open it up you are WAFTED with the smell of moldy paper, fish juice, and human waste.
