Those eggs probably tasted strongly of vinegar (vinegarry?) because the company was trying to increase the shelf life. I wouldn't write off beet pickled eggs entirely. Homemade ones actually taste really good, much better than you would expect.

Can confirm, homemade are great. You control the acidity and salinity, what spices go in, etc; if you do just straight fridge pickled eggs they dont get really rubbery - basically deviled egg flavor profile on demand
