I learned the hard way not to use coconut oil in homemade products. I forgot that in cold it gets hard and, since the water isn’t always warm coming out of the pipe, the coconut oil completely clogged up my pipes. The plumber was like, “I’ve never seen oil clogging up bathroom pipes before”. It hit me that very second that it was my coconut oil DIY beauty products. He showed me the inside of the pipe… it was totally full of white coconut oil!!! Wow!

Wow good to know! This hasn’t happened to me maybe because the amount of coconut oil in the bit I use to remove makeup is low and I wipe the oil with a towel so it’s not entirely going down the drain.

Do you not run enough hot water down your drain?

Looks great! Some, like me, may want to switch out the coconut oil though, because it is highly comedogenic (clogs pores). Many have no problem with it but good to be aware. You can easily look up the comedogenic rating of different oils (beeswax is not comedogenic btw).

Hi! I'm curious as to why you used wooden utensils to stir as opposed to metal?
@dryvonneburkart Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Great question 🙏🏽 Metal caused my balm to cool unevenly and didn’t combine well when adding the essential oil.

Hi is there a substitute I can use instead of the coconut oil??
@dryvonneburkart3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question! I would try organic olive oil but you may need to experiment with adding slightly more beeswax so it will stay solid at room temperature. I hope this helps!

Thank u for the great video! If i were to use candelila wax instead of beeswax to make it vegan, do i put the as same amount of candelila as beeswax?
@dryvonneburkart10 ай бұрын
I would assume so, but you’d have to try to be sure. Sometimes plant waxes behave differently than beeswax.

What store did you buy the little glass amber jar? The amber color keeps the light out right ?
@dryvonneburkart4 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry I forgot to add a link to a similar one on Amazon. The one I got was from Whole Foods made by Aura Cacia and it's a 4oz jar. It was much more expensive buying it individually than getting 12 at a time on Amazon. amzn.to/38l4yeJ

@@dryvonneburkart : I've made an Organic Body Scrub with coconut oil, sugar, essential oils, and coffee grounds. I use my homemade concoction A LOT during the summertime, especially as an exfoliator before doing self-tanners. I also like to use it before strutting out in my bikini or when wearing short-shorts, because it makes me feel more confident (I've heard that the caffeine in coffee grounds may help reduce the appearance of cellulite). It leaves the skin super soft and smooth and smells amazing! I also make my husband an after-shave moisturizer using shea butter and some invigorating essential oils that he loves.

What is the purpose of the beeswax? Can you make it without that ingredient? Do you have recipes for other DIY's?
@dryvonneburkart3 жыл бұрын
It makes it hard at room temperature. You could substitute with Candelilla wax if you prefer it to be vegan or omit it altogether and just use it as an oil. I've used an organic cleansing oil and it's great. The only difference is that it's liquid so a little messier. I'll be posting more DIYs soon! Any requests?

@dryvonneburkart4 жыл бұрын
That's an amazing idea! I didn't think of that, but yes, I think it would work great! You could get away with skipping the beeswax, which is used mainly to keep the balm solid at room temperature. I've made sugar scrubs with olive oil, which was amazing. Will you try making yourself a scrub?

Thanks for your comment. I've kept mine for over 6 months in a dark colored glass jar protected from light. I believe that adding antioxidants such as vitamin E can extend the shelf life significantly. I prefer to make small batches so it's always fresh. Have you tried making it yet?
