As someone who used the older editors when they were contemporary, this video was pretty funny/quaint/humbling to me. "There were only whistle and finish sounds." I remember when clap sounds came out, I was like, "Woah, a THIRD option?!" Up until that point, I had noticed a few mappers would replace either the whistle sound or the finish sound occasionally with a custom clap sound, so I was really excited to see what mappers could do with access to all three. "You couldn't click on slider heads; they had the same sound at the beginning and end!" Clicking on slider heads blew my mind when they came out! "Finally, rotation!" This is why making perfect triangles with the rotation editor wasn't obvious to me; that option wasn't even always available.

Triple click, catmull sliders are useful for round 360 degree turns, good idea

Catmull is still in the editor, to get catmull points just make a red anchor and right-click it. For some reason instead of going back to normal it becomes Catmull, or at least that was the case when I last messed with it.

What if todays editors are actually very limited and 10 years in the future people try to make their versions of modern maps with today's editor, with their maps being the same step in the direction of the 2007 editor vs 2017 editor

I think I might actually use that 2010 editor. I like the slider styles and the green limitations, and it seems like it'd be good, especially for beginning.

Metallica is planning on Remastering Master of Puppets releasing possibly late 2017 to early 2018, maybe a good chance to map with possibly better consistent timing. Regardless, excited for it. :)

Well, since lazer is open source nothing will stop you from just writing a different one and using it to map, then switch to the un-modded client to connect to online :P. I am also sure if you look hard enough you find someone to help if you don't know how to mod the editor. . .

@@ezekielleveriza4071 basically old osu allowed you to do some cool stuff like performance-dependent storyboards. a good example is Queen - Don't Stop Me Now [Hard ROCK!] by m980 because if you used an old client and did poorly the storyboard would show a "stress/loss" animation and not a "win" animation. Another example is the osu! tutorial itself. In old clients, doing badly didn't cause the breaks to say "You have potential!", it instead said "You can do better! Retry the map to go again." This functionality was only accessible through .osb modification and writing code, of course, but it doesn't even exist when you play the game now.

Also I found the 2009 client. It's in this forum thread, near the bottom: osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/526176 It doesn't have a virus, I checked it with Avast, and it doesn't seem fake either (except for the uninstall folder that is there when you have started the game up one time, that folder is very suspicious)
