You should do a video on what to pick up out of mods. I have found a wall in which I end up wondering everytime after I get a mod: "Will this suggestion make me a better mapper?" It would seem like the simple answer is "take what you like", but what if it actually makes your maps worse and one does not notice? A lot of modders in the modding queues are not as experienced as others, so that is another problem I find; "How do I know this modder knows what will push my map (and my mapping in general) into being better?" Or if there is a simple answer just comment it.
@pishifat7 жыл бұрын
don't think there's a simple answer. not sure if there's an answer at all, since it depends a lot on a map's context. i'll be thinking about it though since you're completely right about it being hard to understand
@ExplosiveBrohoof7 жыл бұрын
In the meantime, I think one (potential) metric you could go on is the modder's level of experience. I think it's okay to be a bit meritocratic with your judgments: if a modder gives you a list of suggestions and this modder also happens to have a ranked map or two, or a lot of total kudosu!, then you could give his suggestions a bit more weight to them. If, however, your modder has only ever made one mapset and has a total of 6 kudosu! earned, then you may be a bit freer to take his suggestions with a grain of salt. That's not to say that experienced mappers always give good advice or new mappers always give bad advice, but if you're on the edge of a particular suggestion and you have nothing else to base it on and you have no real reason to refute that other than gut feeling, then looking at their experience might be the best way to go.

I've been trying to rigorously improve my mapping skills for well over a year now (although the deliberate amount of _time_ I've spent actually mapping is probably pretty short relatively speaking, as evidenced by my total kudosu count still being under 50) and yeah...it's been nothing but a jungle of weeds from beginning to end. I still have no idea how close I am to being able to get a map ranked because in the past, every time I thought I did everything right, there was some major thematic problem that I had that would take me a lot of practice to internalize and remedy. If most others felt the same way I did when they were beginning their mapping careers, then _man_, this is a hostile process for newbies. I definitely agree with your opinions on speedmapping: let the good mappers make their maps and get them to ranked quickly. Let the BN's and experienced mappers focus their efforts on getting the newbies up to speed. I want to see more maps promoted to ranked; I want to see more players grow interested in mapping; I want to see interesting songs be given high quality beatmaps. And one way to do that is to make mapping more approachable and individual level of progress more clear.

I am one of those mappers that maps for graveyard because the ranking process is too daunting for me because of the social favoritism and time consumption. When I finish a map, I usually just want to move on and make something new than to polish whatever turd I shit out. This is why I believe I'll never get a map ranked. I don't have the time or patience to waste it on "improving" my map and "getting myself known", it just seems like a waste of time to me.

Is it possible for there to be a forum for new mappers? (Like those with less than 5 ranked maps or something) I think it will really help encourage new players to map if they are given special attention, and it can probably also help new mappers overcome the problem of being unable to find mods or being unfamiliar with the ranking process and stuff.

Taikocracy If a map is DQed, it will be wiped of its nominations. I assume bns however understand they are semi-permanent, and will only nominate with this in mind.
@EssentialGamer217 жыл бұрын
you can assume so, however it may not necessarily be the case; i think the pop is an extremely important part of the process, and the fact that modding v2 doesn't support it is rather alarming to me as a bn
@ren88197 жыл бұрын
Actually yea I agree that pop is extremely important, I mean it will increase the map quality first before it goes to the next part of nomination.
@highdollar23927 жыл бұрын
Just noticed - A map that has been using modv2 don't have a bubble icon when looking at the regular beatmap forum threads in pending (I know this because I have 1 nominated) - While I don't think this as much of a problem, but this also means a beatmap doesn't really get much exposure until it gets qualified (It doesn't show a bubble notification in discord either like others maps when I was on there) - Either way the mapper still has to search for a bn regardless - but I feel the need to say that the map needs a way to let people know it actually has been nominated in case if it isn't ready, may get a bn to look at it, more possible feedback, etc (that why it is bubble in the 1st place instead of automatically qualified right?) - A simple fix atm would be just show that it got bubble on regular beatmap forums until a later fix has been made
@finality41147 жыл бұрын
In modding v2 you can't pop a bubble, so you have to qualify map and then disqualify?
@grimrapper52027 жыл бұрын
Step 1: Find a mod for your map (either by the unexperienced modder which later won't be accepted by certain BN, or find an experienced modder forum and getting unhealthy competition with other good mapper) Step 2: Find a BN that have interest of your map (either making your map PP farm or unique, don't even try) Step 3: The Waiting Game (Filling up the "Hype Train", and preparing for the "quality opinion" from the higher position [either by other BN or QAT] that ask either objective feedback or just plain stupid) ...great system, no wonder there's so many PP maps that leads to the PP inflation

Skinning is quite easy to do: NOTE: If unclear, reference this site: osu.ppy.sh/help/wiki/Skinning/Tutorial step 1: Browse to Skins folder. (Somewhere like "\AppData\Local\osu!\Skins"). step 2: Create new folder. step 3: Name whatever you like. step 4: Open Paint. step 5: Draw circle. step 6: Save to previously created folder. step 7: Open any text editor program. step 8: Search the internet for "osu skin.ini". Or use this link: osu.ppy.sh/help/wiki/Skinning/skin.ini step 9: Copy required info for skins to the text editor. (I believe only: name, author, version are required. Could be wrong) step 10: Save text file as "skin.ini" and make sure it saves with extension ".ini" not ".txt" step 11: Start/Restart Osu! step 12: Select new skin via the Options menu under the header Skins. step (lucky) 13: PROFIT! *FYI replace step 4 and 5 with professional skin steps for better profit ;P

"Constructive feedback should be better indicator of readiness for rank, not just people saying, 'I like the map'." Doesn't this go completely contrary to your views on speedmapping? If experienced mappers can make a map that people like right from the get-go, then shouldn't that be an indicator that it's ready for ranking, even though no constructive feedback is given? What the hype train seems to do is make it so that modders decide themselves if they think a map is ready to get pushed closer to ranked, rather than having a mod de facto increase star priority. If you're modding a map, you don't need to increase the hype train and can only give constructive feedback. Alternatively, if you don't see any major problems with the map and it all looks good to you, then you can throw a praise their way without any mods. It seems like this helps absolve the issues that you've had with the allocation of modders during the feedback process.
