I was disappointed when I found out I was having a boy. Everyone thought id have a girl with how sick I was. I wanted a girl, but now my boy is 13 and I love him to pieces. I didn't even do the whole nesting thing my mom was shocked I just didn't feel it. Once he was born it all changed, now I raise him on my own. Your feelings are valid and it's not a bad thing it will change when it does. CONGRATS I'm so excited for you guys!!!

Congratulations! Infertility is difficult, I’ve never been through it but I care for women going through it and getting them ready for surgery. No one really talks about gender disappointment. It will just take time to process and bond with your baby. I’ve suffered from post partum depression and anxiety with every pregnancy and breastfeeding journey. I mentioned this because it begins during pregnancy and i hope you will talk to your doctor about what your feeling and possibly see a specialist. I saw a post partum depression specialist and she was amazing! I truly hope you all the best and happiness. And just remember you are still girlie and you’ll be a smokin’ hot boy mom!

Hi! Serafina’s mom here. I was so excited to hear you were expecting. Herky & Milton will be great big sisters. Sorry you had to go through two miscarriages. No matter how far along, it can be devastating. I had two very difficult miscarriages myself, both requiring a D&C before getting pregnant with my second child. It took two years before I conceived my first baby. When we talked about having children, we hoped we’d have a boy and a girl. Instead we were blessed with two amazing sons. With my first son, we didn’t find out the sex until he was born. With the second, I found out at four months gestation. I was very disappointed it wasn’t a girl, but that feeling didn’t last long. As your pregnancy progresses and you feel your baby move & grow, you’ll start to bond and get more excited about his arrival. It’s not unusual to feel as you do about your baby. Pregnancy is a very emotional time for a mom, and hormones are raging. Everything will change when you hold your sweet boy in your arms, counting those precious fingers and toes. If you find you’re very depressed though, that’s the time to talk to your doctor. As one with experience bringing up boys, I can tell you, little boys are devoted to their moms. They’ll want to do all of the usual guy stuff with Dad, but a mom and son have a very special bond. Wait until the first time he presents you with a scraggly little weed, thinking it’s a beautiful flower and you’ll know what I mean. 🌾 To you it will be the most beautiful flower in the yard. Press that first “flower” into a book as a remembrance for when he grows up. 🌷 You will cherish it. 💖 remember, that baby boy is a part of both you and your husband, formed from the love you two share. I think before long you’ll be so excited to go shopping for that sweet little homecoming outfit for your beautiful baby boy. Don’t worry about not feeling excited yet, that will come. Praying all goes well and you have a quick delivery. 💖 Sorry this was such a longwinded comment. Love, Serafina & her mom. ❤️🐶🐾

Congratulations 🎉 I’m so very happy for you both. You are going to be fantastic parents, and Herky and Milton will be great sisters to the little man that is coming along. As for gender disappointment all I can give you is my experience,. Many years ago when I was pregnant i didn’t even want to find out the gender of my baby because I was 100% sure it was a girl, I didn’t plan any boys name and everything I had was either neutral or pink. As you can imagine I had a boy and he is the joy of my life, he is all grown up now and makes me proud every day :-) Again lots of love to you all xx

How devastating. I can only imagine your pain. On the gender, I thought for sure I was having a girl and wanted a girl so badly. I ended up with a boy. However, he’s 15 years old now and I am sooo close to him. It turned out better than I ever thought and I see the girl parents and say to myself, “thank god I have my son.”

Do you think part of the gender disappointment has something to do with society? I see far more parents disappointed they don't get a girl. Boys were highly desired in the past. Clothing manufacturers sell very dull and borderline evil looking clothes/characters for boys. I look hard and find clothing that looks like sunshine for my boy. The girl mums always boast about dressing their kid. I never understood this because if I wanted to dress something up, I would get a doll or dress a niece or adopt/design a baby. I wouldn't do something with 50% chance of being another gender. I'm pregnant 2nd time around and am already experiencing people pray for a girl and it's very disrespectful for the boy I may be carrying. I feel like it's the girls' club with unicorns etc and the businesses promoting the craze. Dragons are just as sparkly and magical as unicorns (not to mention unicorns historically had a unisex appeal.. horses were actually a very masculine toy back in the day but it has now gone to the female pony club). I believe toy manufacturers and fashion designers are taking the sunshine and rainbows out of the boys' lives through this way. Even dance being heavily promoted as a feminine activity. The posters are always girls. There are allowed to be girl TV shows but hell no if there is a kids' show dominated by the male gender.. e.g. the Wiggles or Thomas and Friends. By removing boys from all the wonderful things they used to enjoy and pushing them into these violent superheroes or violent video games, we just bring out the aggression rather than their creativity and compassion. I do challenge what society pushes on us but the flip side of not settling into the gender role society imposes is losing that sense of belonging to your gender and being exposed to bullying etc.

AT MINUTE 1 AND I'M ALREADY CRYING!! Ok, I'm almost done watching the video now and I've cried a lot more. I myself had a miscarriage. My very first pregnancy. I was also given this drug during my miscarriage to make sure it all came out. "Peanut" came out but I never had a D&C and because I didn't I got recurring infections for years because of what was left behind. I think you are blessed for having to get the d&c and it's probably the reason you were able to conceive again so quickly. I am so sorry for your losses. I still call my little lost baby "Peanut' because my mom watched me pass it and she said it looked just like a peanut. 💔 I will forever dream of one day meeting my child. And people who haven't lost a child couldn't understand. I am so happy you guys kept fighting for what you wanted instead of getting down and giving up. Congratulations on your pregnancy and coming child. We are all waiting with you. You guys will be in my prayers. God bless your little one.

I am sorry to hear about your peanut :( Like you said, there are pros about the D&C for sure and in retrospect I guess I am glad I got it. Going through it though, it feels so invasive and physically very challenging. Sending hugs to you

@@herkythecavalier I just finished watching your video and I would just like to add sweetheart that with my boys I didn't have a lot of connection during my pregnancy. I didn't have a lot of energy I gained weight a lot I was more depressed more moody but these things ended after the baby was born and I was able to connect with my boys just fine. Now I also had two girls and during those pregnancies I had a lot of energy I hardly gained any weight I was very happy I was not moody and I was very much in love with my girls in utero. All this being said my children came out all the same and I love them all the same obviously I love them as individuals but I love each one as much as I love the next. I hope this helps you feel a little bit better about the emotions that you're experiencing. Pregnancy is kind of like that we never really know what to expect and each one is a little bit different. But give yourself some grace and give yourself sometime to adjust. You will. I believe you and Andy are both very loving people and I believe you're going to be wonderful parents whether it is a girl or a boy. I believe a girl would be much more fun for you but I think having a boy will be nothing but a sweet surprise. Thank you for your kind words about my own loss It really helps when they come from somebody who has experienced the same trauma. You know it just might be that you're still very scared to become attached to your baby. And that might be why you're feeling so blue about a boy. But who knows? Pregnancy is weird hehe. 💕

Awww Mai this brought me to tears!! You’ve been though so much but I’m so so happy for you guys now! I actually have a friend right now dealing with gender disappointment. She had IVF and they chose to have a girl implanted and they did the nursery pink, all the clothes, got a sign with her name and then at her big 20 week appointment the doctor told them it’s a boy. So either they implanted the wrong embryo, the test was initially wrong about the gender OR and the most scary the embryo was mixed up with someone else’s! Can you imagine?! They are pretty sure the last one isn’t the case but they won’t know till they know. Anyway she’s still coming to terms with the fact that it’s a boy but she’s finally getting back into it a little more and being happy again. It takes time though but it’ll happen especially the second you hold the baby in your arms! Wishing you a safe rest of your pregnancy! Thanks for sharing with us!

Congratulations! Do not worry about disappointing anyone or being detached. My first miscarriage, I was devastated. I thought for sure it was because I wasn’t religious that I was being punished. My next pregnancy, I prayed every day and was so good and I still lost the baby. So, the third time, at my 5th month ultrasound, I saw my son sucking his thumb, and only THEN did I believe I was actually going to have a baby at the end of this! And he was a cuddly snuggly squishy chubby sweet gentle little boy. All the preschool moms loved him because he didn’t pull their daughters’ hair. Your baby will be Herky & Milton’s best friend.

Congratulations! It is a lot more fun having a boy than it used to be. Little boy clothes are cuter and honestly for the first year or so, the sexes are basically the same. Having the girls as big sisters will definitely have an effect on his personality in a very good way. Many people think the perfect family is to have a little boy first and then have the little girl. Maybe this will happen to you. I can't wait until you choose his name! You will be an amazing mother!

You put the gender disappointment explanation so well. It helped me understand my own Daughter actually. She went through infertility. Then ivf failure. Then ivf second transfer was a success. She wanted a girl. Always has. And it was a boy. Whom she absolutely adores. But yes had a time where like you said - had the right to be a tad disappointed too. Then a shock 2nd pregnancy - naturally, when first baby was only 8 months old. Again a boy. So she will get where you’re coming from. And as much as she / we all love her boys - a girl is what we always imagined / wanted. But my grandsons melted my heart. As it did mummy & daddy. CONGRATULATIONS. 💙

I'm holding my breath until October! Congrats! I have two girls and a step son. I've found that boys don't get emotional in their late teens and leave you hanging until they mature. Unlike girls, who seem to have it rough during that time. At least in my family. Hope you and yours stay healthy. A friend of mine is having a blood test to make sure her blood is free of viral spike proteins before she breast feeds. I absolutely loved breast feeding, but also used formula. Congrats again!

Maya, I really admire your honesty about this pregnancy. That took "guts"! No pun intended. Love all of you! (You, Andy, Herky & Milton.) I remember when you talked about wanting only girl dogs because you didn't like the look of certain anatomical parts of boys. But, this will be a little human boy, and hopefully this will seem different since he is Andy's & your baby. You might consider talking with your doctor or a mental health therapist for women who are pregnant & have unresolved feelings about the sex of the child. It can adversely effect your pregnancy & your child. ( My friend wasn't wanted by his mother during her pregnancy because she had already had 5 children (Catholic) and didn't want another child, but back then Catholics didn't use birth control). Unfortunately, some idiot in the family told him while he was in his formative years that his mother didn't want him. That was very devastating news for him to hear, and he went into a deep depression. So, my point is, deal with those feelings now. Those feelings are very legitimate & I think that you should be able to express them in a safe place where there's no one to argue with you or tell you that you are wrong. Again, sending ❤ to you as always.

I was so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. They are indeed common but heartbreaking, nevertheless. I had three miscarriages but finally three wonderful, sweet, amazing sons. I too wanted a girl at first but fell instantly in love with our first son the moment he was born. I think I had some preconceived notions about what having sons would be like. As it turned out, our sons have given us some of the best and happiest experiences of our lives and now four beautiful grandchildren (including a girl)! You and your husband will certainly make wonderful, nurturing parents and your little boy will be very lucky to have you! Best wishes from my husband, Bill, and our sweet Cavalier, Isabella, for continued success and with your pregnancy and new parenthood! ❤️

Congratulations! So happy for you guys! So sorry that you’ve had such a difficult process! When my niece got pregnant, her mind was focused every single moment on a girl, when she found out that it was a boy, that has been a rough time too, but now 3 years later, she loves having a son, he’s the sweetest, most gentle, funny little guy. And you know what they say boys usually have a strong bond with their mom 😉 all the doubts will disappear when you hold him for the first time. You will be an awesome, funny, sweet, hardworking and lovely mom! Everything will be okay! lots of love ! 🍼😘

First of all congratulations. Secondly I’m so terribly sorry for the difficult journey you’ve been through. I also want to say that I’ve personally always thought I would be a girl mom. I have a 9 year old son and two boy dogs so here I am, a boy mom. I know first hand gender disappointment. I never said aloud but I felt it. I will say though, my child quickly became just that, my child, not my “son”. I don’t know if my words and my experience will provide any reassurance but I know you are a great mother to Herky and Milton and your love will only grow with your new baby.

Congratulations dear! I know how you feel, I always wanted a girl, but I have just one boy, unfortunately, I could not have any other children. But I am so happy I have him. He is now a successful man and I'm very proud of him. I can just say that boys love their mothers so much and you will be definitely a happy mummy, you will see 🙂❤️

I’m so happy for you both. Just wait, when that little boy arrives you will love it just the same as if he had been a baby girl. I pray you have a healthy, fast and safe delivery. I pray the baby is healthy and grows up to be a happy, kind man. Teach him to respect people, especially elders and women. Teach him to be a gentleman, they are so rare now-a-days and to always take the high road. Blessings to you all. 💜Margie

Lovely and brave video. When we finally managed to adopt a baby from Koea, which was a longer process than a pregnancy, I always wanted a girl. All my friends got girls. I was stunned when we went to get the baby's picture and it was a boy. We would not have turned him down, but I kept thinking it was a mistake, so I can empathize. But you will as you know now, love the lil guy for who he is.

Congratulations! I can understand the disappointment of expecting a girl and having a boy. That was 17 years ago and I have 2 boys. We’ve always wanted girls but we had boys - they are 17 and 11 now and we love them both so much. Once they are out, you’ll be too busy to think about that. We chose to have a female puppy in the end to balance out the sex imbalance.
