I love Jurgen's advice to the boys, 'guys, it's very simple; keep her talking and just listen'. This is a pearl of wisdom, right there. It is so true. Allowing a woman to freely express herself is a big part of her maintaining her femininity and sense of self. Actively listening to what she is saying, without blocking, ignoring or denigrating....well this in my opinion is the key to making a woman happy and if she's happy, she wants so much to make her man happy. You are a lovely couple. 'Wishing you best wishes for today and the future.

I feel that, in my old age of 50 something (uhm, uhm), life really is what you create. And over the years I just forgot the simple beautiful things that makes life worth living- and you two have made me stop and go, ohhh yeah - take a breath, a cup of tea in a beautiful teacup with a pretty piece of cake, a lovely walk with a view, a fire to sit by, a new book, basics- I had all these things around me but I literally forgot that these things were, of course, wonderful and calming and an important part of why we live- thank you for reminding me- I needed my refresh button hit!

ladywharton Your comment, just so interesting because I’ve thought so much about that very thing lately. I thought, one of the main things I’ll take from this coronavirus situation (if I survive😬) is just how much less we really need of certain things and - oh I hate to say it but here goes...I’ve been wasteful 😟. We’ve really been ‘saving’ resources and not wasting things and making our own dinners every night and toilet papers nazis- and I’m thinking- wait, 1st off- it’s a reminder of how grateful I am for what I DO have and that instead of always looking to spend $ or buy new we should be dealing with what we HAVE and 2nd, why weren’t we being more careful before with not being wasteful? I’m actually ashamed that I wasn’t acting like my grandma who lived through the depression and would yell at me to do these things- I see why now. 🤭

I absolutely share your love for the UK. I lived for almost 3 years in a suburb of London when I was a little girl. I even started school there. One thing I will never forget is the open hearts of the English people which welcomed us in that time and helped us to get acquainted. I did not even speak English then but the children of the neighborhood immediately accepted me as a friend and took me to the playground or taught me how to ride a bike. These memories influenced me later on in my job. Whenever a new group member came to the company I picked him or her up and helped him/her to get settled in the first few weeks so that he or she could get spouse and kids over too. I will never forget how thankful these people were for tips and tricks how to get used and oriented in the German economy because they felt understood and seen in their need to get acquainted with a completely different country as well as mentality. Whenever I land after a flight to the UK - be it in London or Edinburgh - it feels and smells like coming home. And the people in the UK are still so kind in their hearts today as I have experienced it so long ago. Since I returned to Germany after 3 years of living in UK I have been traveling to the UK every year at least once and love it there. It is a beautiful country with lots of heritage, stories, traditions and of course history. Cannot wait to see your next videos. Take good care of yourselves and stay healthy. You look very content and happy.

Finally, I got to watch the first Q and A. You both answered all the questions I had particularly about whether you had children or not. I'm sorry that did not happen for you. I do others that have had to deal with this same thing and had adopted a pet and it seemed to fill the void a bit. They took the pet with them just like if it were their child. Funny thing, a pet act so much like a child. They are wonderful to have as an addition to a family whether there are children or no children. They are a wonder to behold. They have their own personality just like people. I hope someday you find the love of your life possibly at a no kill shelter for pets if the UK have such a thing like America. Good Luck

I have been to Germany about 6 times and I can honestly say the German people were lovely, polite and helpful. The food is always fresh and the portions are a little on the large size. The last time my friends and I visited we went to Bremmen. Instead of having breakfast in the hotel we went to a restraunt, as we sat down there was a crowd of German ladies and many children sitting at a table having breakfastI rember thinking how sweet all these single parents have decided to breakfast together - how very British was my thinking! Anyway after about 1/2 an hour along came a group of men and some young boys dressed in black and sporting piano tie joined the group of women and the next minute they began to serenade one of the women.....the group were an acapella singing group! They sang Happy Birthdy and a few other songs which I did not recognise nut it was the sweetest thing I ever saw and really made my day.....I love visiting Germany. One of my family members worked in the Black Forest for 6 months after the forestry commision in Northern Ireland sourced out the management of the forest to a German company. Sean said he never expected to like Germany so much but again he found the people lovely, hard working and very accomodating. Due to his experience working there Sean has been on holiday to Germany many times since which he said would never have crossed his mind as a holiday destination if he had not worked there.

Just now seeing this video in Mar 2020. 4 Q's for you: Kirsten -- 1) You mentioned that you partially grew up in Egypt before moving to Germany. That being the case what was your 1st language in your Egyptian home? 2) Nationality wise are you German or are you 1/2 English & 1/2 German? 3) With as much time and effort that you've put into cultivating your'English' persona, personality, and way of speaking how easy or how difficult would it be for you to slip back into a German accent when speaking to others? Lastly, 4) Are there members of your German family that are annoyed at your "English' speech or your 'English' ways? This last question came to me from a personal standpoint. I happen to have a German aunt who emigrated to America after marrying into our family in, the 1950's. Although, she spent the better part of 40 yrs in America truth she only mainly, enjoyed living in America b/c of all the relative freedoms she was denied in Eastern Germany. However, truth be told she HATED the English language, wanted nothing to do with it, and generally made disparaging remarks about the language every chance she could get. I can remember growing up she always used to call English a, "trash language.....not even worth speaking". Thinking of my encounters with my own family member made me think to ask you the same question, namely what you or your family thought of the English language.

I am together with my boyfriend for 8 years. People are always shocked when we say that, but honestly, i hate that. I mean, when we find someone we love that's what happens lol. I find much more odd when I find people who know each other for 3 years and then marry asap. Also, people think if we are together for 8 years we must never have had problems. We fight almost every week hahaha, but we cant stop loving each other. :P

Hahha yes I totally know what you mean. And quarrels can be good and important, you have to speak your mind. We knew a couple years ago and they really never ever quarrelled. I said to Joerg: 'How do they do it?' Joerg said it's not healthy and they actually split after years which was sad but probably inevitable.

Hearing you talk about doing the work to fix up your house yourself I empathized. I always think no one cares as much about your home as you do. I remembered seeing a vlog you did in your house when it was empty. It was in German and I watched it to see how much German I could remember from my school days. Surprisingly, quite a bit! I loved the house and thought it was perfect for you two. The paint colors and wallpaper samples were so lovely. Adorable!! Very happy to see your sharing!! After few days watching your videos, about your visits to English heritage buildings, historical sites, and old streets, it really recalled the good memories of my last visit in 2010. I feel so lucky again to explore those beautiful places with you, very nicely presented, your gentle voice and relaxing mood are quiet different to those 'shows' on TV. Love your videos very much!! Time flies so fast, it's unforgettable for me that the short visits to London, Bath, Guildford and Farnham...Miss the galleries and old buildings very much, the scene is still very fresh in mind, once I saw a gentleman took a week to repair the ground of a historical pavement in Farnham, a very small area but he worked with his patience and great care. I had chance to attend as a public visitor to a debate session in the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, we sit from a glass behind the meeting but it's an unique experience to me although the one with me was not that interested in politics... P.S. Things change so fast in our city here in Hong Kong, we used to enjoy the high degree of autonomy and the best city in Asia (from the view of government efficiency and cleanness of system). Now it's about the ending of 155 years English influence, the freedom of speech comes to a sensitive thing for us, any critical mind or serious talks have to locked before speak. We, will sooner become a group of walking zombies by the oppressive force from the north...CCP. By watching your video, it reminds me there's still a free world existing, and a precious moment/air to breath from thousand miles away.

I know I'm a bit behind as I just watched this. You are so open in sharing personal information. Thank you. Something you both said struck a personal note. My father came to Canada after the war from Austria and I remember him longing for good bread. It's funny what you miss when you leave home. My mom was a fantastic cook so she made him homemade bread which he loved, but it never lived up to his memories.

Hello Kirsten. I'm Susana from Córdoba, Argentina. I felt some things in common with you that I wanted to write this.... I am 55 years old, my husband's almost 1 year less than me. I began to watch your videos when I saw the one about the "Fayritale Cottage in Devon". As you do I LOVE the British style too. I dream about living in the countryside in Britain but it's just a dream. My husband and I live in the countryside since 2003. We are together since 1988. When we met I thought it was "love at first sight"...but Joerg said it perfect...Our love grow through the days, months and years and we have so much in common too... We talk about everything...our feelings...and just like you we don't have children, so WE are the children...haha... I must say that the way you talk is SO very lovely...it's SO nice just to hear you speak... Sorry for my poor English...but I do my best to participate.... I love the English language, all the GREEN spaces...and those beautiful old houses...maybe it's because my grandpa (from my mum's side) was born in Swindon in 1888. Bye bye...I leave waiting for your next video...!!!

Basically, you both are following your heart. Wonderful! It was last night I was watching another video with Q&E and I did ask, actually, why had you moved to the UK. Well, I got your answer and it is as good as I expected it to be. You are obviously a well educated couple and did what you had always wanted to do. Fantastic. I visited England in 1977 and 1984, or 1985, but the financial situation there was very difficult under the Margaret Thatcher governent, so we returned to Canada where we still are.

Loved it 💖 loved it 💖 loved it 💖 You are both so charming, I like your calm way of talking. I had a bad last week but you made my start into this week. Thank you so much for the open answers. You are right: never forget your dreams....even if it takes 20 years to get a cow creamer - at the end you get one ! I am myself from Hanover/Germany but I have a "british soul" 💟 and like you I enjoy the fashion, the traditions, the way of life, the landscape and I like series like Doc Martin/ Downton Abbey / Doktor und das liebe Vieh ( located in Yorkshire !) and of course I LOVE the literature ( I am a bookseller🤗). Therefore I enjoy your channel very much and looking forward to coming things. Take good care and have a wonderful time till next vlogg. Herzliche Grüße von Susi 💟 P. S. Did I see a picture of the young Queen Elizabeth in the background ? If you like the Royal Family too then have a look to the channel of Elliot from Telford/Shropshire as "Royal Reviewer" . Always beeing objective and only telling the truth about their engagements.

Hallo Susi, vielen tausend Dank.

Thank you so much. I guess the US is a bit like Germany when it comes to travelling with pets, the British are so incredibly pet-friendly which is a joy to watch. So so many accommodations allow pets which can make it a lot easier for people.

I had a friend from Germany who spoke English with a British accent because she was given the choice in school, to either study "English" or "American", hence she sounds like a Brit. Her sister however studied the American form of English, and naturally she holds an American accent like myself.
@teresacarle2944 жыл бұрын
😉 It is amusing how education as well as passionate desire can impact a person's accent. Grew up as an Anglophile in Los Angeles obsessed with the romance of British aristocracy, culture, history & literature📚. As a Disney kid, it is hard not to fall in 💖love with an enchanted land full of kings & queens, prince & princes, etc. Living in LaLa Land, fell hard for the "happily ever after" fantasy before Princess Diana even walked down the aisle. Carefully grew up watching her journey in the limelight😢. 😞As a young adult, I did practice the posh accents I most admired in secret. Mostly, that involved reading aloud fictional stories, regency romances, & even the more modern Harlequin from the UK😍. Also watched clips of royals as well as had 🎥Merchant Ivory🎞films on repeat mode. Unwittingly, my accent did become a bit of a hybrid. Valley Girl meets Jane Austen...TeeHee. All those years of insane practice & obsessive study did leave a residual mark that 😨 shockingly remains today. ~~~~~~~~~~ 🏤After uni travelled to London where I mostly encountered 🇺🇸Yankees & other foreigners. Hung out with a group of Saudi's who had spent their youth in prestigious British boarding schools & were now working in this capitol. The ☄pinnacle☄ was seeing the 👑Queen Mother up close & personal while she awarded 🏆 "The Queen's Cup" to the winning polo team🏇. 🎉 What a thrill! Raised on the grandiose principles of equality, it was quite shocking to hear that American's who studied at Oxford were kept rather sequestered. Since they could not always figure out bloodlines &/or status of foreign students, the British found it best for the general academic population not to socialize with them. 👀 Quite illuminating to gain an insider's view of a world I held in such high esteem, but would never belong😔. In a social class continuum with 🔱Queen Elizabeth II on one end, I fall squarely on the opposite end (aka the commonest of the commoners). American; 2nd generation Californian; hardy mix of mid-western stock mixed in, raised by a blue collar father who worked in heavy construction & stay-at-home mother; attended regular local schools and an ordinary state college. It was a lovely, but a most modest surburban up-bringing. All this to say it was utterly 🤤shocking🤤 when Prince Harry was given approval to propose to beautiful & poised Cali native Meghan Markle. When in highest-ranking British social circles, let alone in the dark pit of 📲social media💻, actresses are still today often sneeringly painted with the same nasty historical association of prostitution. Much like ✈air hostesses to whom Kate Middleton's mum once ranked. While Kate Middleton was still educated alongside Prince William in some of the finest institutions with other Peers of Realm, she is still nastily referred to as a social climber for daring to marry out of her nouveau riche status. Meghan Markle also, [gasp], showed incredible hustle that resulted in actual advancement in her chosen career. Whatever the haters say about her acting chops, the💲digits in her pre-wedding bank account attest to that reality. 🐶Two deeply held ugly misogynistic double standards dog her. That women in the arts still to this day face incredible prejudice where people assume females must have used their wiles to get ahead. Also, that ambition in women (in both British & American society) is still greatly demonized while wholly celebrated for male counterparts in the same field. Watched Meghan Markle on "Suits" long before their courtship. My parents & I heartily enjoyed her long running portrayal of "Rachel." Thought she had established a strong base for a career in acting. On that same hierarchical scale mentioned before, my evaluation of Meghan lands her on many rungs higher than myself. Having been raised by a father who worked in the more lucrative entertainment business & a mother who was a social worker. She attended private parochial schools and the more illustrious University of Chicago. Long before Harry she established herself as woman concerned with treatment of women around the globe🌐. She invested herself in philanthropic pursuits. She pursued a solid career, and also started to build her own brand on a lifestyle blog that encouraged readers to live their best life & invest themselves in a greater good too. Overall, money, education, shared experiences, background, and accomplishments can elevate a person somewhat when bloodlines or pedigree alone cannot. As a result, she seemed like a strong, confident woman who would serve as a powerful help-meet to her princely husband. Sure, like most of the "Hollywood" elite community, Meghan's political beliefs skewed left of center, but she still has a great heart & instincts for equality as well as women's rights. Ultimately, I prefer that 👑royals & 🎭entertainers🎤 demonstrate diplomacy in their public roles. Not offended if they encourage others to participate on a civic level or vote, but I don't want to be preached at by anyone. Prefer a gentle, subtle social activism that does not boldly alienate others. The type that encourages others to invest in and build society instead of tearing it apart. It is not as if the Monarchy does not serve as patron to many admirable community concerns. They have a long and detailed list of philanthropic pursuits and charitable causes they support. 🔊Prince Charles has been outspoken on the climate change agenda for years -- and closely skirting the line of contemporary politics. My apologies that I skewed off on that seemingly unrelated tangent. My love and respect for the British touches on these things. Harry is his own man. He is not some pathetic pawn of a venal, grasping wife. He clearly had his own motivations for wanting to carve out his own legacy. The Institution obviously resents his desire for independence, and does not believe he can do that full stop without compromising his royal status. Therefore, the bad boy of Buckingham Palace was banished. He's been away long enough to have 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th thoughts about this estrangement. A man of his stature can live anywhere, but it cannot be easy to be excluded from almost everything you have known from birth. The Queen can strip him of every last title, but she can NEVER remove his pedigree or privilege. He may spoil it by less than stellar behavior one day, but many will always see him as the beloved son of the People's Princess🌹. American's are facing a tremendous amount of election turmoil & intense bullying between political parties at present. Some of us are ultra sensitive of even an admired outsider appearing to take sides in our debate. Ultimately, American's love a rebel as well as an underdog. If Harry can stay his course with the utmost civility & honor (without playing the victim card) he will earn our highest respect & regard too. ☮Peace 💛Love 🌼Beauty

Please excuse my meandering. Clicked on your response to say my bestie from Honduras and her older sister were sent to a local ⚜French school where they became fluent in Francais & Espanol. While her brother's attended an 🦅American school where they learned English & Spanish. The four of them definitely developed different accents as a result of that educational experience. 😁😁😁 🦋 ☮💛🌼

Hello, there! This is Christine, aged 55, single, from Athens/Greece. You've managed to get the lifestyle I've ever dreamed to have and to hold! I like your free spirit and I mostly respect the fact that you didn't force yourselves to adopt a child because it is a society's demand. I think some of us should go on with their life without being parents. You have the chance to explore so many other beautiful sides of life and present them to us through your channel. We are lucky to see them through your eyes, since you seem to have a great appreciation for what life treats you and you approach each capital with a narrow view. You have a nice sense of humour and you are adorable both. Kirsten, I feel somehow close to you, since I have studied Jurnalism and Relations Ships, like you! Kisses!....!!!!
