Bless you Kevin, Sarah your precious darling girls, your extended family and your whole farm❣ Love your channel and look forward to it, but just wanted to let y'all know that you're such wonderful teachers to people like me who know nothing about gardening and farming! But i've been blessed by your channel more than I can express in words. Praying for a cornucopia of amazing blessings upon you and your family. Oh, and i'm so happy that Kevin's precious parents moved down and i'm asking Jesus to make it possible for your dear extended family members to making it down for either your Easter or Thanksgiving Holiday this year. It would be such a heavenly blessing to everyone who sees your Holiday Celebration and hoping it will become a beacon of hope and faith for every fractured family to remember how important family and friends are and reach out to estranged family members. These last 4 years so many families and dear friends have been terribly fractured! Losing beloved family members and dear friends either to the terrible virus, a tragic accident, or the horror of deceitful political beliefs! Too many have been literally torn apart, so badly that they forgot the valuable importance of having loving close family and old friends loving ties; especially for our young children to connect with their family cousins and close friends; they are the glue that had kept America lovingly and respectfully United for decades! Praying for American's spiritual strength to extend our Father's Loving Merciful Grace to each other!

For years I dipped the chicks’ beak into the water. I later tried a batch many years ago and did not do that. They quickly found the water. It doesn’t hurt, but it is not necessary. If the heat is close to the food and water it just happens. I too also switched away from heat lamps. I now use hanging infrared heaters for the chicks to get under. They work really well and there is no risk of fire. They also allow the chicks to sleep at night in the dark. I put a small led light on a timer and have that suspended between the heat source and the food/water. You guys do a great job raising your meat birds. Putting them in mobile tractors and restricting their diet is really good for them.

You know, If the chicks don't seem to be staying warm, you can raise that heat mat off the floor. Maybe put a couple of tin cans under the two ends or a 2 x 6 or something. This way the chicks can get under the heat to warm themselves. I'm very interested in whether the heat mat works while it's laying on the floor and if it does will be getting one for myself.

The purpose of the heat mat is that heat rises better & is more efficient than a high watt heat lamp. I get what you are saying though, I'm curious if that will keep them warm enough too.

Sometimes the address of delivery is towards the end of the carriers route. The back end of our vehicles heat up too hot when sun is out or could be too cold in different states. Thats why when clerks get the chixks (sometimes at 4 am) they call customers about 8 to pick them up. Too much stress on chicks for carriers to take out to street.

I live in central Virginia. We deal with a local cattle farmer, who raises grass fed, no antibiotics beef. The steers are harvested at about 800lbs. He has a 6-8 month waiting list. You can buy a whole, half, or quarter beef. They are aged for about 10 days and then processed and frozen in shrink wrapping. Also, we get our pork from another farmer, they’re smaller and all natural. We only like my pork sausage or brats, so I grind Boston butts to make our own sausages. It is really great to have a supply and not buy grocery store meat, with who knows what is in it.

We grow a lot if our own veggies but are not able to raise our own meat. Last year we started getting our beef from a farmer who lives maybe 5 miles from us and it is processed about that same distance away. I will never buy beef from the store again! There is no comparison. We are still looking for a local chicken source but haven't found one we like yet but we will eventually! You are an inspiration to me. We cannot raise protein in the city but have four vendors at the farmers market from whom we buy longhorn beef, angus, pork, chicken, and smoked salmon they fly in each week and smoke at their home. Use plant hangers to hold up those waterers. You can hang them from the ceiling or walls like plants. That way they can't get into it, but you can set it at whatever height you want to. It keeps them out and the poop out. It works perfectly. I give them warm water in the winter and change it morning and afternoon. It works great. I only had to use a heated water a couple times this.
