Am in late 70's and I used to live in Crescent City CA. I kayak fished for about 7 years. Caught many Ling and Rockfish. My best was a 43" CA Halibut. I say this because I can't do that anymore but I love watching your quality videos. It puts me back out there. I live in the heartland now and miss the ocean. But I love watching you guys.

I just did that drive in the opposite direction. AK to CA! My advice for Alaska is explore places like Copper Center, Valdez, Talkeetna, definitely Homer and Seaward! All have great fishing! Advice for driving the Alcan is stop at every single gas station. Even if you just filled up. It could be the last station you see for another 90 miles. Especially the closer you get to Alaska. Have fun!!

@@hungpham Few ideas. Maybe a rear vertical mount on the rear. Or I have seen ladder racks with assists on the side of these vans that you can mount at the side and use a pulley style system to swing it up top.

Anywhere you think is scenic and full of potential food, there is likely to be a bear around. Black bears or Grizzly. Learn what is in your area, and if you're not taking heavy caliber weapons, at least buy loud crackers or bear repellent. Seriously, I went up as a greenhorn, and was surprised at the wildlife. Yeah, all of that cooking you intend to do outdoors on a nice bench, or in your van, bears can smell that and will rip open the shell of your van to get at the food inside. Watch videos if you don't believe me. One the coast, too, you need to be careful. You should go with knowledgeable people, preferably armed, because you will encounter things unlike on the California coast. It is wild country up there. Fly fishing is especially dangerous. Always be on guard. You need to be overly prepared.

Love it when you guys get together and happy to see you catching fish again. Look forward to the Van trip to Alaska, just watched some of deermeatfordinner videos. Wonder if you could have used some of that sauce on the onions rings. In the future, I would like to see some videos on your knives, I have just bought a couple for myself and I make a bunch of different fermented vegetables. A good sharpe knife, really makes cutting up vegetables, for fermenting much nicer, thinner slices with the sweet peppers, jalapeños and red onions or making sauerkraut, changes it somehow. Anyway enjoyed this and that you pickled some kelp, never thought of that before.

Always so impressed by your excellent editing but most of all your food presentation and the video presentation of the food. Well edited and really one of the best if not THE best catch and cook! That you are a sushi chef is obvious. All that basic sushi presentation comes right through into your own unique style!
