Easy and tasty tarted sauce: Mayo, sweet relish/chopped sweet pickles, a couple dashes of Tapatio, lemon juice and S-n-P ...as for pesky fly's, keep a Citronella candle or two on board and place it close to cooking/eating area

If your going to fish around the rocks like that, I would suggest going and finding a tackleshop and talking to the people about what you need. That rod setup you have is good for trolling like you do, but not good for what you tried to do.

I tried your tartar sauce but it feels like it still needed a little salt. Not a lot. That's the first time I've done home made tartar sauce. Thank you for the recipe. My kid loved it and even used it on our beef fondue night.

Wanted to add, as well, that some of my best childhood memories were being night watch while running offshore with my dad. The fact that he trusted me that much at age 12 or so was really amazing to me, and I took it very seriously. Also, some of the times I had to wake him up to wake up for his turn on watch were absolutely hilarious. For his sake, I will not share what he had to say in his sleep. :)

My in laws had a home in Cambria Pines and we used to spend time there at least once a year. We always went to Hearst Castle, it was one of my favorite places to visit and I bought books and read about the Hearst family.

If flies continue to cause you guys trouble, you may want to try hanging some clear plastic sandwich bags filled with water and a couple of shiny pennies placed inside the bags around your aft deck. This is an old trick they use in the southern states to help keep flies away. I personally do not know if it works but have seen restaurants in South Caroline use it. There are some recent KZbin videos out there showing the method. It may be a good science project for Emma.

Great channel to watch great videos with clear explanations of everything. Also, enjoy Linh making simple meals that are similar to Japanese style. In this video you mentioned 'panko', (bread crumbs) which I believe is a Japanese word because the way it is written. Pan (bread) I believe is Portuguese and is written with the foreign word writing style while 'ko' (flour) is with the Chinese/Japanese script or kani.

Too bad about the Hearst Castle being closed Emma. At 74 years old and almost a native Californian, I have yet to visit it either. I’m surprised you didn’t have any issues with the kelp beds along the coast. There are places where you can almost walk over it!

Morro Bay would be a great spot to stop and visit San Luis Obispo as well as the town of Morro Bay. Check out Fat Cats restaurant in Avala Beach on the water. You can pull your boat right up to the dock and have lunch in a sheltered cove or anchor just out in front of the restaurant. It's pretty much the last stop before you hit the more populated areas of Southern CA.

Kelp population is in really bad shape along the entire West Coast due to the massive population of Purple Sea Urchins. Also, the kelp does bring an influx of annoying flies. Look forward to seeing the videos. Enjoy Morro Bay when you get there. A quiet little town. Side note too, watch the swell direction going in there, Cold weather off the Northern California coast is normal during the Summer.

Born and raised in San Diego (Navy brat, so moved a lot), but most people do not know that there is a current that runs nearly the opposite to the Gulf Stream in the East Coast (which brings all that beautiful warm water up the coast) this is the Japan Current that runs North past Japan across the Northern Pacific then DOWN the West Coast (which is why a good warm summer day in San Diego will have water temps. of about 71 degrees).

*Emma don't feel too bad about Hearst Castle.* You will go next time. I've been to the Castle. Suggest evening tour that starts late afternoon. You see it during the day, but at night it takes on a whole new feel. You see everything inside and outside. People walk around the grounds in period clothes from the 20's thru 40's. We've lived in cold climates (snow over 4 months every year) and there's a big difference between dry cold and wet cold. I would take dry cold any day over wet cold. Lol
