100% agree with u! Strategy is just as, if not more important than form! I've looked all over for books and videos on this topic and improving my mental game. I've found and read a few good sports and ball golf books that talk alot about this but never see much disc golf media on this. Best book I've found so far is Mind Gym which is a book about the mental side of sports, def worth the read!

At the mini I went to on Monday I saved so many strokes due to risk management. I haven't been playing a lot lately and I've been trying to make changes to my backhand form, which is just destroying my accuracy at the moment. And I was pretty tired, but I really wanted to go out and play that day. Despite feeling totally out of touch with my backhand form and my putting being off, I at least didn't shoot my worst round ever because I was playing safe and within my limits (which were especially limiting that day). I think you bring up a great point about shot selection/risk management becoming a bigger discussion. I was definitely affected by the importance placed on form. Been playing a year and trying to work on form, then a year in I actually play my first mini and I get my ass handed to me because I don't know how to make the right decisions in the heat of the moment. The way I put it i needed to start focusing less on the "disc" and more on the "golf."
@OverthrowDiscGolf3 жыл бұрын
I hear ya on the accuracy portion. I’ve been trying to get the distance gains in the field and the consequence of that is less accurate at the moment. But we can always go back to accuracy when we dial the form in.

I think the only other people who talk about the decision making and shot brake down on the course is Uli, and Stokley. Every time I watch this kind of content I immediately shave strokes. I hope color coding will help these ideas stick, even after I throw one of those really bad shots. The kind that make you question why you even play.

Maybe you cld play a course with a little more OB or Hazzard or you cld film like 3-4 rounds in different conditions or at different courses then take the highlights of the shots that were extremely hard, played safe, laid up, etc...putting too, I see so many newer players miss from 30' for bird, then '20 for par, then 25' for bogey...etc! You know what I mean its happened to all of us! The putting is one huge thing in ball golf, like on longer putts they are mostly trying to stay close and not run way by the hole!

I can tell you exactly why you are missing right. Think of your elbow as a door henge. If your elbow is pointed to the right it will cause the disc to miss right if you are late on your release. To fix this try to keep your elbow down so there is less possiblity of being off your line. It feels really awkward at first if you are used to what I call "Door Henging" but I promise, keep that elbow down and hitting your lines will become so much easier. Let me know if this helps.
@OverthrowDiscGolf3 жыл бұрын
That makes sense! I hammered keeping my elbow up on drives so that’s probably where I developed it. I am on day 7 of rebuilding my putt and will look at this during today’s practice!

@cutrolldiscgolf3 жыл бұрын
@@OverthrowDiscGolf Ayyy!!! I don't think it's the only way people should putt, cause there are a lot of pros that door hinge and putt really good. I guess it's whatever works better for you. Paul McBeth is one of the best putters and he keeps his elbow down on the release. I actually thought about doing a video on my channel about it cause it literally took at least 5 strokes or more off my average. One practice routine I like to do with it is at my local course, the practice basket has this spot where there are 2 trees side by side and the gap is exactly the width of the basket. The best way to practice in my opinion. I'm curious to see where your putting is a month from now.
@OverthrowDiscGolf3 жыл бұрын
@@cutrolldiscgolf I looked at Paul’s putt before I went out today. Prior to today I was pulling it down like Paul. Now I am pulling it more in like my old spin putt. I actually set up with my disc up like Paul’s which naturally pulls the elbow inside the body a bit. Hard to explain via text but you’ll see it if you keep tabs on the vlog.
