It's nice to see a youtuber put some effort into creating an entertaining video showing off Infinity in a similar style to Shut Up and Sit Down. This is such an improvement over the usual youtube fare of miniature game channel youtubers talking to a webcam for the entirety of the video. Nice job!

Your terrain and miniatures are utterly insane looking. It's making me want to go hit Dragon's Rest's Black Friday sale and start 3D printing again. One thing people never mention about Infinity is that, unlike games like Kill Team, Infinity's complexity is greatly mitigated by being intuitive. The rules become much easier to deal with because most of them relate directly to what would happen in a real situation. Games like Kill Team end up with very cumbersome mechanics like abstract dice pools for shooting, where Infinity's rules directly connect to what's happening on the table. This was a fun video and definitely tempted me to start playing Infinity again.
@TabletopTurtle20 күн бұрын
This is very true. Rules that are somewhat intuitive and make sense REALLY help when you have to take a little break from the game for awhile. Hopefully you've already scheduled a date to play!

I am coming back to the tabletop hobby as a much older man 12 years later. And what I'm finding out is that GW has gone completely off the rails with their pricing and the convoluted and scattered rule sets. They were overcharging before, now it's just plain gouging the player base and I've been looking for alternatives. Definitely looking into Infinity as a next stop.

I use a little movement template. But you will likely be measuring sometimes to see range when shooting. It's kinda unavoidable. But I have a little micro tape measure from Home Depot that makes me feel less like i'm measuring lumber for a patio and more like I'm playing a game.
@Nos2113Ай бұрын
@@TabletopTurtle I painted a measuring tape in 8" segments and it speeds up ranging a bit
@GiverThoughtАй бұрын
One of the things about Infinity that reduces the measuring frequency is that weapons across the entire game have consistent range bands: 8/16/24/32/48 so once you get a bit of experience or get into a game, you'd be surprised how often you can actually tell which band it's in; either because it is so obviously less than 8" (for example) or because you just measured spot A to spot B and the action is happening there, again. Pretty much any miniatures game I've ever heard of, unless it's a self-contained boardgame or D&D (not really a miniature game, but for me it is), requires some measurement AFAIK.
@elqord.1118Ай бұрын
@ that certainly helps! Thanks. The new Halo miniatures game from Mantic seems to be even simpler as it using cube based movement. I feel like that is a great starting point for me as a complete newcomer

Thanks for the video. When every model brings in one order and anyone can use them isn't the best build one super strong unit and lots of cheap weak ones? Then you just activate the strong one with all the activations. What is preventing you from doing this?
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
That's certainly a strategy that is employed by a few teams, but that's up to you. The great thing is that even in those army lists, your grunts can still do some serious work and have their heroic moments because the guns in this game are very lethal.
@DeepGreenX28 күн бұрын
There's nothing preventing you from pumping all your orders into your strongest unit its just that you risk overextending it and getting taken apart by multiple ARO's or by a well placed hacker or mine. Its also important to remember that Infinity games are very Objective based, its not about wiping out the opponent instead you win missions by securing objectives or holding onto areas. A really strong unit may be good at killing stuff but might not be good at completing objectives.

Problem with Infinity is hardly anyone plays it, and it's probably partly due to how it can't be your ancillary game played once every couple months. If you do that, either you or your opponent will have a negative play experience with the gotchas that's all over if you don't study and live the game. Most people don't want or have the time necessary to become competent at the game, which is where the gotcha moments mostly disappear, and negative play experiences reduced to the point both sides can have a good game and fun.
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
Well that depends on where you live. I only play it every few months and usually just with some friends. I play A TON of games, hell, this channel is after all a board game and miniature game channel, and no game is my lifestyle game. But I understand your point. I just play for fun.

Here's all you need to know about Infinity. Every model in the game has 34 different special rules that you are expected... no... REQUIRED to know by heart at all times. This includes how they interact and how they are used in game. Yours AND your opponents. No excuses. No, Im not kidding. No Im not exaggerating. Its fucking ridiculous. Whatever game you're about to type "Oh but XXX has more ..." no. It doesnt. You're wrong. Sit there in your wrongness and be wrong. I went to a tournament once. Every player had like a 10 page printed document just to explain THEIR OWN MODELS special rules. Infinity is extreme bookkeeping for nerds. The models are cool. Sure. I'll give you that. Some of them are quite badass looking. I just dont wanna lug out a 500 page rulebook and 200 page pdf everytime I wanna PLAY the damn thing.
@GiverThoughtАй бұрын
Yup there are a lot of rules. The game absolutely requires study before you'd be able to get in flow playing. I absolutely love that about it. Sure I'm a nerd! Always have been, and I wouldn't have it any other way. That said, I've never been surprised by opponent abilities or powers in Infinity like I've been in 40K or Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Never. Never ever ever. Not even close. But those large-army GW days are long behind me at this point. I might dabble in KillTeam. But provided N5 doesn't turn everything upside down, Infinity will be my preferred gaming home for the foreseeable future.
@TabletopTurtleАй бұрын
Yeah the game is a bear, no doubt about it. It's not one you can just read the manual for and then play with a friend. Sadly, it does sometimes feel like it requires a mentor to teach you the game and guide you through things. But that's why I love it. I have my lighter wargames and my more complicated wargames. They all serve a purpose.
@Nazgull2k1Ай бұрын
@@TabletopTurtle And thats why its a niche game that almost nobody plays. Look, I like the concept. I do. Im all for it. But what I DONT want to do with my freetime is get a PHD in Infinity Rules interactions. Its *needlessly* overcomplicated just for being overcomplicated. Ive seen PDF's online written by community members that DRASTICALLY simplifies the entire system, but doesnt take away anything from the game. Thats a REALLY bad sign the game has *entirely* too much bloat for its own good. Until they address this and accept they have an albatross on their hands.. it'll stay niche and never get the popularity it could have.
@GiverThoughtАй бұрын
@@Nazgull2k1 over the past couple years, until I went back to grad school, I could 100% count on finding a game, any Thursday night, at a shop about 40 mins away. Now I have grad school classes Thurs night, and too busy on weekends. I've never found another game I enjoyed as much as this with such a consistent play community within reach, and while I only made it there about once per month for about a year, I played about 7 or 8 different opponents. I'm not saying you have to like it! I'm just saying that what they're/we're doing with it is working for me in the best way any game ever has *for me.* 🤷♂️
@DeepGreenX28 күн бұрын
I think you're overstating the complexity of the game a bit. The basic rules are simple and intuitive to learn with all special rules being universal in that apart from one or two exceptions all armies use the same rules for weapons, hacking, camouflage, Combat Jump, Impersonation etc. If you know what your unit's Combi Rifle does then you know what your opponents one does as regardless of faction they share the same stats. The game is crunchy but far less so than some other games where each faction has their own separate rules for equipment and abilities. Plus Infinity is a game you play WITH your opponent, not AGAINST them since the entire basis of the ARO system is asking your opponent if they have any reactions to your orders.
