I'm silver, and i play a lot of rein, lucio and junkrat. As junk and lucio, i think that the "spam" is not really the case, but about rein, for some reason, if i have my shield up and use firestrike (sometimes even with shatter), my hero turns around for no reason, and i get a stupid firestrike back into my spawn.

I seriously don't want to see people hating on this player. The point of these videos is that players learn from mistakes. People don't send in perfect gameplay. What's the point? They know their skill is flawed and want help from it. Yeah, low rank with a high level, picked an off meta hero. Who cares? You can't tell and bronze to look at a gm player and go "Them. Learn from them." They need to learn how to play at their own rank before looking at higher tier players. People who are bronze can learn stuff from videos like these. If you see an Overanalysed video on a bronze or silver and think it's pointless, fuck off and don't watch the video. Leaving hate doesn't help.

From experience being on Rag Tagg's Toxic Coaching, you're point is really important. I still get the occassional message of people seeing my old Pharah footage and calling me shit. While I take the piss out of myself and laugh along with replies and what not, some may not, and beside, the point of these videos is to become not shit with a character. I'm a pretty damn good Pharah now, but people who get scared by backlash are not ever going to get that chance to improve.

Some constructive criticism for the guy who sent this: you have great potential. Outside of lowering your sens/dpi and general aim, I would work on gamesense and target priority. Always go for squishies and healers first. You can instakill all healers except Brigitte when she has a shield up, and doing so instantly puts your team up. After healers are either not in sight or dead, go for 1 shots on dps characters. Go for tanks last, but if they're the only target feel free to go for a potshot while waiting for better targets. Body shots aren't bad. If someone is low it is 10 times easier to go for a body shot than a headshot, and knowing which to go for is crucial. A general rule for widow is that you have to get 1 kill and some damage every respawn wave to justify it seeing as you make it basically a 5v6 if you don't do well. Also, some sensitivity tips: make it so you can easily do a 180 within what feels like a normal mouse swipe from 1 end to another on your mousepad, and adjust your scoped sensetivity to what makes it easy to hit shots at whatever range you play at. The default scoped sens was fine for me personally, but it's really up to personal preference and the space between you and your enemy. For good general aiming guides I would suggest watching Nate Fox's sniper and Widowmaker tutorial on his channel, as they helped me improve a ton with sniping in both tf2 and overwatch. That's all, and keep in mind that you will get better with enough practice!

The problem with a lot of dps heroes is that they're high skillcap to use. And it's sad because most people want to dps but lack the skills to meet the efficacy level that won't inspire salt. I have no idea why everyone loves playing dps it's one of the most hardcore responsible roles in the game. When a dps says "why aren't we capping the point?!" after 3 team fight deaths I'm sitting here like "dude it's YOU. I'm doing my role as tank or healer which means SOMEONE doesn't understand what the dps burden is."

Yeah even up to gold where I am, the tanks don't create space. DPS is so skill cap mechanically, but they're the easier characters from a concept standpoint. Defense dps like Widow and Mei(?) are more positioning based I guess

If 2 DPS mains that are the SAME rank as you can't find any kills... that's a sign that something else might be wrong. Team composition, lack of healing, tanks not making enough space for them to do work. I say this as a Tank/Support main. A GOOD tank makes the DPS look good, a bad tank makes the DPS look bad. They can't do work if I'm not doing my job. One Zarya bubble can mean the difference between Genji getting destroying them or dying. It's MY fault if I don't put one on him. It's MY fault if I miss a shot as Ana and he dies. DPS aren't supposed to be better than everyone else, and if you think that you're putting too much damn pressure on that role. Everybody is supposed to be making phat plays, not just your Genji.

I'm a hard carry Hanzo, and I get anxiety if one person becomes toxic. The anxiety stems from worrying you can't prove them wrong, then 9/10 you can't. If they just shut their fucking mouth or accept your decision, all of a sudden you do so much better. I get compliments in most games where people decided not to bash me at the gate.

Solid point. Having severe social anxiety issues myself it is something I can relate to. Although I do believe in looking at things on a case by case basis. In this situation his aim seemed rather bad even while immobile and without being directly criticised by his team. More over as his failures repeated his ability seemed to get more and more questionable. With those observations I considered that he might be inexperienced with first person shooters in general. Thus why I made the comment that it was preferable if he started with a simpler character. More over, snipers tend to have a mental effect on beginners. Tends to makes them believe that they might be better then they actually think they are because of the higher impact each shot has, on top of giving them a sense of safety because of how far they can stand from the fight. Unfortunately, snipers harshly punish players that can't land consistent shots and avoiding the fight doesn't really help with accustoming yourself with the stress that comes with combat. I am sorry to hear that people are so harsh with you for your pick though. I do believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. Though I'll admit that I'm not the type to shy away from politely asking a Hanzo or a Widow player if they are confident they can handle their character in some situations. Like taking the second point on a 2CP map for example. Which tends to be less then favorable for snipers because of the fast respawns.

Sebastien Dubois I am a confident and powerful Hanzo player. I tend to have around 70% win rate, however, I know times when I am not personally having an impact with Hanzo (I sometimes have those days, it sucks), or Hanzo as a character has no impact against the enemy team (Usually happens when enemy team goes double barrier). So I will swap. Toxicity doesn't just block my ability to play Hanzo, it blocks my ability of reason too. This all stems from the anxiety. The pressure mid fight can prevent me from making a logical swap, or worse, not swapping at all, but you also don't want to swap because then your toxic teammate wins. It is terrible situations. I am glad drastic measures are coming in to remove them from the game forever.

To be honest I can understand your perspective on it, but then again I'm always very harsh on myself when it comes to my own gameplay. I don't accept my own failures. You could say my own anxiety is focused on my perspective of myself. Thanks to that though I've reached a point where I'm not bothered by giving satisfaction to toxic teammates. If I swap I do it for myself, not anyone else. I've also made a point to learn multiple heroes and learn when is the best situation to use each. That way I'm always prepared for different situations. Greatly helps with keeping the game feeling fresh too, which is a nice bonus.

I've watched a few of your vids before and I watch enough OW vids that I don't need to subscribe for news (since it jumps in my feed anyway), but you have no idea how helpful it is to watch videos where you go play by play on a character/player. I think that the biggest problem of this widowmaker was that she couldn't flick. You have to take your eyes off of the crosshair onto the enemy and flick onto the target. I was actually coaching my cousin who was like bronze or silver (unranked), and flicking helped him sooo much. It took us like three weeks of exhausting coaching to get him to something like gold-plat. I think his biggest problem now is just gamesense and communication. Also shaky hands is never the problem with aiming in my opinion. You can track amazingly even if you have shaky hands and flick too. Also her crosshair seems kindof weird. It makes me feel like when someone is in the small circle you can shoot. It's not always that way though. I personally think that very short crosshairs are perfect, but that's just me.

Your right, flicking is massively important as a widow, especially when tracers and genjis start to dive you and you need to hit your shots, but theres nothing wrong with his crosshairs, I agree, I like to run the more little ones, like a dot, and a little cross, but the crosshair is just what the person likes, thats all.

4damSt flicking is overrated. I am a decent tf2 sniper and in overwatch it's a little more necessary to flick, but most of the time either letting people walk into your crosshair or tracking then a little flick right after to get to the head is more useful than going for a huge flick as they're generally inconsistent. That's just my experience though.

One tip I actually picked up playing sniper in TF2: don't use your wrist to position your aim over your target, just get the crosshairs at head height, and strafe while you're zoomed in to cross that little gap. It's a lot more gradual movement than trying to aim with just the mouse, and makes you that slightest bit harder to hit.

The problem with bronze players is that the most of them instalocks on dps heroes, yea you have some Mercy mains of a bunch of Zarya mains but overall its just players that play multiple dps heroes in one game, they go in and wont wait for there teammates. An example: a low lvl bronze player gets killed by a lucky Hanzo, most of the time the bronze player will switch to Hanzo trying to get kills. If tanks get the feeling the best team doesnt get enough kills they will switch (the same is with most of the healers) Ive been in bronze and the only way ive got out was improving my aim and my skill as tank. The same thing is for silver, i was with this Hanzo main once, he got toxic bc the Reaper and Genji couldnt kill a Pharah.. he thought Reaper was the counter to Pharah. Het was playing tank and switched to Hanzo. Overall in silver you get players insta dps's but tanks as well, but the aim/mechanical ability of the players is just to low. I was placed in 1350 in season 5, i saw that playing dps or heal didnt work.. (i was a Ana main in season 3/4 but it doesnt matter how much you heal your team if they dont get kills) so i started maining Winston, it had a crucial effect on the team, i had games where i had gold elims and gold hero damage with a 2-2-2 team. So with Winston i made it to gold. I played much quickplay in this time and i became a genji main. This season, season 6. I started playing genji in comp (i had 30 hours on him and i was very comfortable with him). But the dps instalock was still there. I clicked for genji but when we got 4 dps i switched to tank and i asked if we could get a healer. Sometimes they actually switched and we won, other times they stayed and we played with 3 dps. If i would give you a tip for climbing, try to not only play dps. I know its feels amazing to get a quad kill or centuple but still, it doesnt need to help if your team cant handle the incoming damage. Gem Monger it actually is. If you can have a stable higher fps than your monitor that doesn't fluctuate it will lower your input lag. Ctrl shift N and check your sim. Lower the better.

Actually, you can carry in any rank, and it applies per game. You could carry one game and be absolute trash the next. And it wasn't a joke. If Sty put "GM CARRY?!", you would have thought that a GM player was carrying. The title is super misleading.

Ace it is a joke lmao. Some one is bronze playing widow maker isn’t going to carry mate. They are that low due to most of the time horrible aim and game sense so they’d stand no chance at carrying especially with a high skill hero. Carrying cannot happen at any rank. It can only happen in the lower ranks as everyone above that can eventually kill someone that is doing high damage or whatever. This game relies heavily on team play unlike CS:GO and most shooters where you can completely outplay a whole team through aim and positioning. However because of abilities and how health works that can’t happen in Overwatch. You can totally pop off but if your team doesn’t follow through it’s over. There is a thing called context, bronze has a funny silly players context whereas GM has a high skill and coordination context. So a “GM carry” with that context would be more believable. Not everything is Black and White.

how is this still a thing people don't know about? when you upload a video it takes YT some time to proses it, so it renders out the lowest video qualities first. if you just refresh the page its normally done.

I don't know if the Widow player will ever read this, but advice I can personally say works is to go into the training range and practice headshotting the bots. Every day. And try not to miss. I also like setting up custom Skirmish against Medium Bots with fast respawn (i personally don't like headshots only vs Anna bots). I couldn't hit anyone with McCree going back to April (literally 12% weapon accuracy). Yesterday, I won my first deathmatch as McCree and was chaining headshots and just playing so well. Repetitive practice will improve your mechanical skill with every character and I can play all DPS with fairly high success. Improve your mechanical skill and every aspect will begin to improve (even if it takes a long time). Plus, I personally find training range and skirmish super relaxing, do it while listening to music or watching videos. Don't give up, you'll become an amazing Widow some day!

Quick play really doesn't work for learning heroes, even mechanically-based ones. Team comps are random af, people are always out of position, and it's just not even slightly the same as comp. It's a bad team death match.

Tom in the case of Widow, you are wrong. Quick play is actually good for learning the basic skills of Widow. The most important things when you start off playing her in comp, is that you at least can secure elims with a good aim. Quickplay is perfect for practicing aim with widow, as well as some positioning and use of grapple etc. What you really learn in comp, is how to work with your team, how to expect the enemy team to behave to your team comp, etc. That you only learn in comp, but all that knowledge is bs anyways if your aim sucks more than your game sense anyways. What good does good positioning do you, if you can't snipe anyone even if they are the size of a barn?.. I'd definitely suggest this person to go play tooons and tons of Widow in QP just to improve his aim and reflexes. Then get back into comp with her once that has improved, and then work on positioning and teamwork. Practicing Widow aim from scratch in competitive is gonna throw sooo many games. I could never advice anyone to do that, it would be literally like throwing so many people's games just because you only wanna practice in comp - which is super selfish and very little teamwork-minded.

something that helps even with console is using your movement to adjust horizontal aim and moving that less and adjusting it majorly with your movement. the end result is more consistant aim without the time killing micro adjustments when you could be finding shots quicker.

When I play widow I usually go from the bottom door and grapple to the yellow building on the right. It gives me better vision on the ledge teams usually set up on.

About the crosshair, I had one just like that and my aim was bad. I kept switching between the short crosshair and dot and finally settled on the short crosshair, and my accuracy greatly improved

Just watching how jittery the mouse movement is and how oddly their movement makes me feel dizzy (could be the 30fps too). I can see that by decreasing the sensitivity a lot and getting the game to run at 60fps the player here can improve a lot. Seems to be the issue with a lot of lower ranked players

Hey, so, I'm a Genji main in silver (yeah, I'm grade A garbage), and I'd really like to know... should I bother playing him in comp? I usually try to flex and let everyone else pick heroes they want to play (I usually end up going Zen or Rein, sometimes Mercy), but I really want to play my main on occasion as well! Thing is though, I'm honestly scared. I don't want to get flamed/not constribute to the team and end up losing. So do I play him and try to improve, or stick to playing easier heroes until I get better?

Once the Widow player who submitted fixes their settings a bit, I suggest going into Deathmatch with Widow. I can say from personal experience that the amount of times you will die will be humbling. But with the right mindset, it's a great way to get experience landing shots, also how to fight people one on one in close range. It's done a lot for me. I'd also suggest crosshairs that have longer horizontal lines, to help you track in the straight line Stylosa was talking about.

This Widow was passable on Attack, but did almost nothing on Defense. This player was positioning themselves where there was very little open space for enemies to be in sight, moving back and forth between two bad positions.

Seems like the biggest issue is, as you say, mouse sensitivity. The cursor is flying all over the place while aiming, whereas it should be steady and precise. Lowering in-game scoped sensitivity would probably help a lot. :)

I like karalapio's ( the person being coached ( I think thats how their name is spelt )) crosshair idea with the dot for accuracy and the lines for aiming, but it could do with some work. I'd say remove the dot, put show accuracy on, and bring the crosshair length down to about 4-6. That way its like you've got your circle and dot that you seem to like, but when you zoom in it basically short crosshairs. I personally use circle with no dot and centre gap on 10

Id say the best advice on hitting the headshots is always keeping your crosshair at head level. Try to learn the head level of each hero. For me, placing my crosshair to headshot an enemy widow is so easy because i played a lot of widow training custom games. Try to as well, or play against ana, soldier, and lucio bots, as id say they are the best to train with (ana has small hitbox, lucio moves a lot, soldier is average height)
