LARGE FAMILY Meals! What We Eat After Daddy Leaves the Hospital

This is what our large family of 9 ate the week after my husband spent five nights in the hospital! We had no meal plan and we had run out of homemade bread and broth. Some meals were homemade, some were gifts from friends, and others were just quick and thrown together last minute. Thankfully, we had a lot of food growing in our gardens plus eggs and meat from our homestead. We even get to experience eating quail eggs for the first time ever!

The kids are so sweet & precious. You can tell they are very well behaved & respectable. You & Shawn have to be extremely proud of them. It's so nice to have friends that are there for you in times of need. Takes pressure off a person & warms the heart. You go Andrew . It's not lady like, but I love to gnaw on the bones too. @@nancyfarkas3592 I agree. I had to quit teaching after only 5 years because I got high blood pressure due to the horrible behavior of so many students. It seems like parents don’t want to parent these days. I’m scared to see what the future holds 😢

Great manners , great respect ,great kindness among the children , the children’s behavior seems very unnatural , very tense ,very quiet, that could be on cameras I assume , the children seem very shut mouth , sometimes parents go overboard on expectations for children , some parents feel your to be seen and not heard from back in the old days , I believe raising children in a Godly household with morals , values , kindness , respect , also I believe children should be brought up with joy , happiness , and have sparkling eyes from happy days and not be work mules , I understand somewhat of homestead living , but children being born to take adult responsibilities on at such a young age , they miss out on there childhood , one day we will know the impact health of there minds , if the children are allowed to further there education to become nurses, Drs , counselors, therapists , attorneys, rocket scientist, engineers, God send special blessing to the children .

@@joangelaparker2845Perhaps these children seem “unnatural” to you because polite and respectful children are a rarity these days. Every child is seen smiling in every video I’ve watched. They share lots of laughter and fun. This family works on their homestead together, as it should be. These parents are teaching their children how to work hard, while teaching them valuable skills. And yes, they are allowed to further their education, as evidenced by the oldest being in college.

❤Loved this video! Everyone seemed so happy and relaxed. So thankful Shawn is home and doing well. In the close up of Anna all dressed up with her beautiful dress and matching head band she looked like an absolute Princess! Her little face was just glowing. Made me so happy. What a wonderful gesture of friends to help out in a pinch. I am sure the children enjoyed the take away food from the restaurant. If I were your neighbour, I probably would have made meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green peas, plus dinner rolls and dessert.

Anna did such a wonderful job making sandwiches and packing the lunches!! Sarah is so creative with cooking and so helpful with all she cooks for the family!! What a lovely way to end the day. All of you sitting around a fire eating s’mores and taking in the peace, quiet and ambience of a calm August night. I can think of nothing better. They are golden times and memories for your children that will stay with them forever. Violet jelly ? Wow! That’s a new one to me. I’ve made apple jelly and autumn fruit jelly, but I’ve never heard of using violets. I imagine it as quite a delicate flavour? Or is it like Parma violets ? Hey Lyndsey!! Yes, the violet jelly just has a slight floral taste. I like using wild flowers like dandelions, redbuds, and violets in our foods. It makes me feel good to use things that are free and growing abundantly. :)

You can actually eat the shells of quails eggs. Boiled whole quails eggs are a good source of calcium. Just pop them in your mouth!! 🇬🇧❤️

I have really been wanting to learn to bake bread. You mentioned you have a video on it. I will check it out. You feed your kids well with very nutritious foods. I also found a bit of motivation to begin making a schedule. Congratulations at getting Sean home for recovery time, and on the beautiful baby goats! They are just lovely! My husband’s grandmother who came from Norway to North Dakota kept goats too, and made a brown goat cheese that we find sometimes now in the specialty aisles of grocery stores. My husband always loved going to help at his grandparents farm. Quail eggs are quite popular in California, but are usually only eaten in restaurants. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in any grocery store here. They are such pretty little speckled eggs! Thumbs up for S’mores! They are a wonderful treat, and so much fun to make! I enjoyed this update very much, and Janice, even when you don’t have a solid plan, you and the family, with God’s help, always make everything work just fine! Don’t go jumping around too quickly, Sean! Healing takes a lot more time than when we were children!

Hello hello Janice and family ❤️ some people don’t understand that when you have a loved one in the hospital you just can’t think straight so i completely understand 😞 it’s stressful 😩 it’s amazing to see cows , horse’s goats 🐐 etc being born and they start WALKING immediately but not human babies 😞😞 you would need more than 1 dozen quail eggs to feed 9 people and yes those quail eggs are so tiny 😊

It's good to know that you replace food that the family don't like and substitutions if someone doesn't like something. When I grew up we had to eat what was put on the table but that's the why things were in those days. I remember the time when mom said she was tired of trying to make me eat meat I still don't eat meat to this day and I'm 69 years old. I do eat chicken and turkey fish.😊

Thank you for your great tip about Sam’s Club and their price of produce. My husband couldn’t believe the difference. We live in Western Pa. and there was not one item in produce as reasonable as Aldi or the local farmer. We haven’t shopped there in quite awhile and I priced everything before his trip tomorrow. Quial eggs are so tiny but beautiful, the only time I have eaten them was in Spain, pre boiled and from supermarket shelves, deliciously tiny!

Janice dear, I have 7 children, too, and they are all grown adults now, some with their own family, as well .. but when they were young and I was raising them, I totally understand and agree with the fact that it is imperative to be very organized and to always have things planned out as best you are able .. otherwise, chaos insues.

Yes! When I don't have a plan, I feel like I'm an out-of-control airplane just spinning towards the crash site. :) I've definitely had to get more and more organized with the addition of each child!
