I think it’s both. Like there are some genuinely funny moments like the Gilbert Garfeild tapes themselves that the aforementioned mc bowel problems. But there also still some genuinely tension building and disturbing moments like the ending of the Gilbert Garfeild game let’s play or the implied atrocities committed by Farone. It gets that balance between being a crude, absurdist shitpost and a genuinely terrifying and disturbing story perfectly and that’s what I love about it. It’s a dark comedy send up of ARG tropes that still manages to craft its own bizarrely terrifying world and narrative. Which is honestly what any horror/comedy should strive for in my option.

So, while I enjoyed this video, there's a lot of references to the original "Garfield and Friends" cartoon not picked up on here: The 'shipping Odie's body to Abu Dhabi' line is a reference to a running gag in the show in which Garfields attempts to ship Nermal (a small, cute kitten he finds annoying) to Abu Dhabi, a city in the United Arab Emirates generally associated with being far away or unreachable. Also, the US Acres portion is a reference to the "Friends" portion of Garfield and Friends- a separate cartoon called Orson's Farm or US Acres about a group of animals, including Shelldon (the chick who won't come out of his egg) and Orson, a pig who acts as the leader of the group.

I find myself randomly singing it to myself at least once every two weeks since I first came across it, and that was like, four, five months ago? One thing of note that y'all might find interesting - the entire ARG makes frequent references to the joke "The Aristocrats" (lines such as "what do you call it?" and the "and the dog fs the cat and the boy fs the dog etc etc" are lifted straight from most common renditions.) Gilbert Gottfried's telling of the joke is one of the most famous versions, but I wonder if it could actually refer to something deeper - maybe it is connected to Gilbert Garfield's connection to aristocracy and power (he's a pharaoh at one point, and the company that produced it is also named after Pharaohs)

I should note that "US Acres" is the "Friends" part of "Garfield & Friends", which was a set of B-Episodes that were sandwiched between each Garfield A and C Episodes of each 22min run, set at a farm where you had characters like Orson the Pig (very much a bookworm), Roy the Rooster (a prankster), Lanolin the Sheep (who was gruff and not too lady-like) , and her slacker twin brother Bo, Wade the Duck (so scared of everything, he'd wear an innertube around his waist in case he fell in water despite being a duck), and two chick brothers, Booker and Sheldon, who were characterized by the outgoing brother, Booker, being hatched and Sheldon, the introvert, being perpetually in his shell, refusing to hatch all the way, so he was just an egg with legs all the time. "US Acres" was just another series of strips by Jim Davis adapted into the cartoon about farm animals having typical fantasy adventures and dealing with slice of life stuff. Heavily implied to be the livestock on Jon's parents' farm, I believe. So, Sheldon at 1:20:30 isn't actually the rabbit, but the egg with legs. Sheldon, because he's a walking eggshell, lol.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but from my knowledge, the link between Gadaffi and Mussolini is not only their deaths being quite comparable (public execution and ridicule) but also the fact that Libya was invaded and colonised by Italy, there also being a subsequent genocide enacted in Libya via the Italian colonisers aka The Pacification of Libya. Again if I recall correctly one of the instigators for all of this was that Italy claimed, as 'the heir of the Roman Empire', they were entitled to rule over former Roman territories. Since Libya was the sole Mediterranean region not claimed by another European power, it was the only territory Italy could dominate. Might be a stretch but in terms of this ARG and their constant referencing to Augustas and pax romana, I believe they're making reference to heir of the roman empire mentality as potentially a similar motive to what Farone has with wanting to essentially form their own new world order? Again might be a stretch lol, but the comparison instantly popped into my head, so if this adds anything that's cool and people feel free to correct me or add anything onto it.

The whole thing is spelled out in the theme tune, "Great act, whata ya call it?" The whole thing is a aristocrats joke, overly long and full of random gibberish until the sudden punchline. Like how lasagna cat mocked the self importance of the garfield owners, this series mocks ARGs with a sunk cost falacy. "Theres so much time and effort put into this, it has to pay off at some point!"
@Cooe. Жыл бұрын
I don't think this is correct either. It's somewhere in the middle. It's a legitimate ARG that's ALSO a deliberate pastiche of ARG's in general. But the ARG elements definitely aren't just "meaningless, totally random red herrings". The people running this (a bunch of Adult Swim staffers, you can actually find their specific names if you try hard enough) simply have way too much love for the genre for it to be a straight ARG/ARG fans takedown/parody, and that's reflected in the ridiculous amount of effort and attention to detail they've put into something so small as far as its reach.
@cthulhluftagn3812 Жыл бұрын
@@Cooe. well parody comes from a love of the thing your mocking (satire comes from hate) so a parody ARG would have just as much effort put in as the real thing, im just saying the grand reveal to all the clues will be that its a bad joke, both in cannon and meta textually

I like this one, although, most of it seems humorous to me rather than disturbing or creepy. The idea of morphing Gilbert Gottfried with Garfield is endlessly hilarious, and I wish someone would come up with a web series of just a weird show like that. Then again, I'm partial, because I love both Gottfried and Garfield I will say though, some of the stuff at the end was a bit creepy.

Sheldon was a character in Garfield and friends, he appeared in the Orson’s farm segments. Also the “Cat” is actually Orson the pig.
