Excellent VLOG! Please keep them coming! I love perennials and always appreciate learning anything I can about planting, fertilizing and helping them to grow beautifully. I have at least a dozen different varieties of daylilies (all from GHW) and I busted out laughing when you said, "Oh give me a break!" in regards to someone asking why you would plant a "common" daylily! This years is also my first time to plant lavender. Very timely info for me. Thank you!

No words can express how much I love and adore P. Allen Smith! Such a lovely spirit and soul. I don't know how he kept his kind gentle and beautiful personality through all his success. I recently retired and had to downsize. I once again turn to his site for ideas, design education, inspiration. and how-to reminders for my new home. I will need to visit Gilbert H. Wild's web site very soon! On another note, I very recently lost my very senior dog and best BEST friend (and my shadow). I binge watched P. Allen Smith's videos for hours and days with a nice cup of tea as I battled with my grief. P. Allen Smith's lovely soothing voice alone was magic to my heart. Feeling like I've known him for years through his programs was such a surprising and amazing dose of comfort to me. I truly love his personality and how genuine he is... plus a major touch of class.... REAL CLASS. I don't think he will ever know the many ways he touches people and why we love him so much. Certainly hope he finds time to read comments. What a beautiful person he is... Thank you for so MANY reasons, P. Allen Smith!!!

Yes, Cherry, I also did that a few times as my sleep pattern has become so discombobulated since my sweet Doberman passed. I take my laptop to bed and tune in to Allen's programs. He has so many inspiring topics and ideas. His was the only program that kept my mind interested and distracted. I quickly also realized it was Allen as well as his lovely voice that was actually soothing my heart. Thanks for your kind message, Cherry. Take care!

I’m in my fifties now, and I have Daylilies from my childhood garden in my own garden. My mother was a big fan of junipers, they were everywhere. She didn’t plant too many flowers, but she planted one Daylily bulb which multiplied year after year, and it thrilled me. Other than a forsythia bush, it’s the only flower I can remember us having. Unfortunately, when my dad ran off leaving my arthritic mother and us two eleven year girls (I’m a twin), our large house and steep sloping property started to resemble Grey Gardens all buried in English Ivy. But I do still enjoy the Daylilies’ ancestors, and lots of other flowers in my garden. I have no Junipers. 🌸🌱😀

I bought Phenomenal Lavender, a hybrid developed for humidity and clay soil and lined my driveway with them. First I dug a large deep hole, and put in rocks for drainage and added lime to sweeten the soil. I added soil amendment to break up the clay to the soil I dug out. I planted the Phenomenal Lavender and it took! Then I made cuttings from the 5 plants i had and now have more than 30 on my property. I highly recommend Phenomenal Lavender for Southern gardens.

I really enjoy listening to you talk about plants. You mentioned several of my favorites in this one. You touched on what I've been doing for the last 15 years. Planting so that something is always in bloom. I have about 12 colors of Day lilies along my garage but I think I'll dig them and divide them this fall and spread them around the property instead of in a big group. I also have about a 20 foot oval of peonies that I want to divide and spread around. I think the big group takes away from the individual plant.

Awesome information in this video. I do record and watch your Garden show on tv. Love how you talked about the old and new perennials. My Mom has a peony that the original belonged to her grandmother. No kidding, the original is from around 1900 to 1920 range or earlier. As far as I know, that one is still alive as well. Mom’s has beautiful pink flowers every year. Never been fertilized since my Mom planted it in the 1980s. It’s hard to believe they can live that long. They are a tough and beautiful perennial. A lot of fuss for daylilies. I toss them to the side and forget about them for weeks on end where eventually they start rooting where they lay at which point I remember, grab a garden fork and rip them back out, then throw them in a hole and stomp them down. Have over 150 cultivars here. If you move them in leaf, cut at least 3/4 of the green off before planting. You can leave scapes, won't hurt them.

JUST found you this morning ! Oh my goodness, I was an avid gardener years ago, loved it and thought I was pretty successful. Knew my plants. Had a few amazing perennial gardens and enjoyed my time digging in the dirt. Then I fell in love with my 2 dogs and they didnt understand that the garden was NOT a place to dig and sleep.I gave up and haven't done more than a couple lillies and my peony for the last 10 years! Now my babies are gone and I just started to dig up my gardens again. I have learned soooooo much just from this single post. Hydrangeas, never could figure these out ( Michigan) now I know everything I was doing wrong !! My peony is stunning but need to add more and now I know how to get a successful garden on the first try. Subscribed and will be binging on your channel for the next few days. Thank you!!!

Best lavender I ever had was the house where I built beds using limestone rocks on the south side of the zone 5 house, so that makes sense that concrete blocks would work too! Love your vlogs and PBS shows :-)

I used to love Irises. But they don’t continue to bloom unless they are dug up and replanted after operating on them. My favorite is the peony, but have trouble with getting them to bloom. Thanks for reminding me of the reason why. I love your shows.

Great information. I have been working on my garden since November, and off course had to focus on planting perennials. Really found this useful considering I just bought 2 hydrangea plants, and will need to move a camellia japonica shrub this year. Perfect timing! Cant wait to add lavender to my garden 😍 I heard lavender is great for repelling mosquitoes 👍 🤔

Awesome video, thank you so much! I am a fellow Arkansan, up along the MO line, and I am so tickled to see that you are also a fan of Wild's perennials. I like that they are fairly local to us; gardening in this part of the South is a little tricky because we do get a fair bit of winter, and I know the Wild perennials are used to the same basic conditions, even though they're a little further north. And again, thank you very kindly forallthis excellent information you share with us!

hello from Bosnia & Herzegovina in Europe!..great information on you VLOGs, i have learned a few new things i did not know before...i am an avid amateur -gardener(both flowers and vegetables), i have several peonies which are doing great, lavender loves our part of the world-easy peasy to grow,i collect alot of flowers and plants from neighbors, unfortunately over here we don't have huge selections of plants and flowers in garden centres and mail ordering is really non existent here, otherwise i would have varieties in the thousands!..so happy to have stumbled on your site and have already subscribed and look forward to learning more new stuff!
