I use an inline. My buddy uses a spinning. We honestly don't see a big difference in who catches panfish. I think it really just boils down to preference.

Thanks for asking the pros this question. I primarily fish for panfish in 20' of water or less. If I am pounding a jig then I use spinning. Finesse than I use short rods with Schooley reels. I've tried a couple different free fall inline reels and did not care for them.

I've always used a spinning reel but decided to try an inline a couple weeks ago and bought myself a 13 Fishing Black Betty Freefall. It's pricey but so far I'm impressed. I don't think I'd use for bigger fish right now but it works perfect for panfish and eater size walleye.

blakemoores reel magic is great stuff. night before bring in house spray down the rod, reel and line. those bitter cold mornings it'll get u thru the morning bite and line might start freezing some. the reel will ice up but comes off easily. same with the rod tips will always freeze maybe vaseline on those to help.

I use a 1979 ZEBCO ul 4# test, all the time and have caught over 2000 fish on it. Bass to 4 #, crappie, many bluegills and red ears. That is in 41 yrs! I also use spinning reels and prefer spin cast in windy conditions. I even use ZEBCO 33 in salt water for speckled Trout, Golden Croaker. I am 73 and will continue catching. If twist bothers you use a swivel that is small and black.

When your fishing as deep as 80ft of water drop speed is huge. And as deep as 50ft (as deep as my camera reaches) the is a huge line twist avantage. Seeing is believing in my book!

I have an inline combo I bought about 5 years ago. Caught quite a few panfish in less than 10’ of water with it for a while but got tired of the slow bait drop, poor drag, 1:1 reel ratio and occasional line popping off the spool. Now I use 5 different spinning combos for panfish and I have no trouble filling my freezer with fillets every year. The over $100 price tag on some of these inline reals is ridiculous, especially for the average user it is just unnecessary. You can get 2 or 3 decent spinning combos for that much.

A good inline reel will ALWAYS drop a jig/lure better and faster than a spinning. You must've bought a POS.

I use both and prefer the inline over the spinning reel. I mainly just panfish so the spinning reels to me are useless unless I'm dead sticking.

Some things just kick off and others just don't as much, example electric auger vs gas.... I got a strike master 40v and I'll never go back to gas unless I do a crazy trip to Canada with thick thick ice. For me I prefer spinning I'm more used to it and know how to use it. l preference each has their pros and cons.

Love my large arbor fly reel and a Thorn Brothers power noodle. Awesome drag even while palming the reel and totally adjustable on the fly. I always try to double purpose stuff like this. Fly fishing and ice fishing covered! Gotta have spinning over 20 ft.

You do not acquire line twist in a spinning reel, it is built in to how it works. Either you put it on the reel correctly and it coils and is "twisted" as you let it out(the cause of the spin), or it is straight when you let it out and you twist it on to the spool when you reel, becoming a birds nest waiting to explode. If you are able to use a heavy enough weight, spinning reels are the way to go, no doubt. It doesn't have to be either/or, they both can be superior to each other in different situations. The in-line reels are definitely the "in" thing right now and I imagine the hype will die down when people figure out that it isn't the best "all situation" reel.

Honestly adding a small barrel swivel at the end of your leader and use a small duo lock snap or between your leader and main line twist is never an issue. Fishing Lake Winnipeg a lot I'll run through a lot of bait hence my preference for duo lock snaps often ripping rattle baits with one rod to call fish in.

My wife bought me a Team 13 Freefall inline real for Christmas and I love it for panfish. I fish for panfish and crappie a lot on Little Detroit, which is clear and shallow so not having the jig spin is a huge plus. For bigger fish I prefer spinning reels of course.

My dad bought me a jig stick - - It had two wood pegs and monofilament was wrapped up around these pegs possibly 30 feet of line at the most. The day he gave me the rod I caught 9 sun fish. There were two lakes 1 1/2 miles from our farm in Central Minnesota; the land was sand and there were 12 children in our family. It was a sacrifice for my father to spend 1.99$ for the rod and $.50 for four dozen Mousy’s. I miss my father ihe would be 102 this year. I watched the world take my fathers smile away but he still gave everything for his family. Fishing is the last place for me of sanctuary everything else is political delusional and deceptive; when the current world Political BS affects Fishing it will be a sad day too bad I’m not a young man anymore I always enjoyed a damn good fist fight!

To anyone that uses thr drop feature on a inline reel its the dumbest thing ever. Start stripping the line out it straightens the line, checks for frays and weak spots, and checks your drag. Only time you need is is to drop to fish if need be
@joestrummer9507
@joestrummer9507 3 жыл бұрын
You're not making any sense. There's 2 types of inline reels, 1 has a trigger that you continually hold to drop your lure and simply release it to stop. The other has a button which releases line and you reel in to stop it. You don't need to "strip" line with either although you can which simply requires loosening the drag. Inline reels are simple to use and they're awesome for several reasons, perhaps most importantly is minimal to no line twist and you can fish with one arm/hand.

What I find funny is around here the cheapest spinning reel is $35 ish and a mid range inline is $20.... unless you are stuck in a Cabela's or Scheels or some such you cannot find an inline over $45. As for what is best... that is up to you to figure out though as I am a VERY RARE baitcaster user during the summer months here and nobody else will even attempt to try it because it is to hard, this spinning reel has always worked or some other nonsense. Try one, maybe it will work for you or maybe it won't but remember the "pro" in pro fisherman is promotional not professional....

Think some mixed up the concept of what is meant by a In-Line reel when mentioning Schooley's reels. Schooley's reels aren't a In-Line reel that has come become popular to use in the past years. Schooley's are those reels that are commonly seen when buying a lower priced ice fishing reel/rod combo and come pre-rigged with line(sometimes a teardrop ice fishing jig also). While the name given long ago to the reel "Schooley", it was never categorized as a In-Line reel in what ice angler's familiarize themselves with In-line reels in today's ice fishing equipment world. With a true newer style In-Line the object is to be able to reel your line in after letting line out, retrieving your line/lure or reeling a fish in. Generally the Schooley type reels were designed to first hold line capacity, secondly is to distribute the amount of line needed to fish the water's depth and lastly when done fishing to load the distributed line back on to the Schooley reel with the provided reel knob built into the reel itself(some Schooley's just come with a knob pin that goes thru two holes in some Schooley type reels which was intend to be used also as a line distribution stop). I'm sure if you ice fished long enough you've seen or still see some inexperienced ice angler using a Schooley type reel and rod combo with a 1:1 gear/line/reel ratio, trying to wind up or reel/fight in a fish. I always just figured those were ice angler from the nearby town with a Polish background. Maybe Norwegian, lol. I sometime's think when the bite is on using the old Schooley's reel setup in shallow water for panfish is still the way to go unless the wind is blowing too bad. You already have your line out for the the depth your fishing or where bite's are occurring, you can repeat your fishing processes faster and generally maximize your fish catch numbers quicker than using any type of reel. That's the Pro's, the Con's of using a Schooley type reel and rod set-up is they're not portable shack friendly, you may have more fish break you off unless you've become savoy from experience using a Schooley reel and rod set-up, plus when fishing out in the elements you don't have a good style of managing your fishing line you'll be plagued with it catching on the ice all the time or other things such as your stogie's!!!

I don’t care what anyone says people catch huge fish unintentionally on 5$ schooley reels. I have had good luck with even the cheapest of in-line reels. I simply run the drag a little looser to keep it smooth then I use my fingers to stop the reel and take line up.

Agreed, he's clueless - the drag on my free fall ghost is superb as is the adjustable drop speed. It is not clunky at all, in fact it's the opposite - smooth and comfortable. I've ice fished with spinning reels for many years and I definitely prefer inlines now. Fishing with one arm/hand is a joy!

I can't believe Brohsdahl even mentions the reel he endorsed. It as without a doubt the biggest piece of $40 shit ever made. It was absolutely useless, a xxdxsxciuhnng joke. He should personally refund every penny and beg for forgiveness. Stopped buying anything Frabill. I like the inline idea, so I paid $90 for the Concept by Rapalla. It is smooth and well built. A smooth well built $90 turd. At least it performs somewhat, until the drag completely fails in the cold. I don't have to take off both gloves to count the days I'm able fish above -10 C. When it works like it should ( for $90) there is an advantage over a spinner. Not sure what the others are like, can't afford to field test another couple of turds.
