Probably one of the greatest metal albums, period. Right in the middle of the 90s when everyone was reinventing themselves, Pantera just kept getting more brutal. Nobody in metal did what they did in the 90s.

The greatest solo of ALL TIME!!! "If HELL WAS IN you'd GIVE your soul to... "If I WAS GOD you'd SELL your soul to... "The GREAAAAAAAAAT SOUTHERRRRRRRRNNN TRENDKIIIIILLL... THAT'S RIGHT!!!" While Metallica were off finding the "hero of the day" I remember getting this album and yep, Pantera did it again...no worries there! Production was a little raw but overall it's ok and the album crushed. That was the biggest thing I noticed was the lack of "polish" if you will. That raw prod/mix started to become popular around '96 or so

I know this is 2 years late but... On tour for this album, they opened with suicide note part 1 over the PA with a giant, faded American flag with a coiled snake blocking the stage, lights glowing eerily behind it. As it transitioned into suicide note part 2, the flag fell to the stage and Phil, Dime & Rex jumped over it in full swing, riffs blaring. Saw them do this in Hampton VA. It was... absolutely amazing. I was on the rail, Dime side. Best concert of my life.

I'm 16 and been into Pantera for about 2 years and I love how this album was a big "Fuck You" too nu-Metal, also in 1992 & 1994 with VDOP and Far Beyond Driven was another "Fuck You" to Grunge. They brought what we want to hear, heavy ass riffs and mean breaks with emotional solos. Piss off with all this rapping over dj scratches and bar chords. It's been a year now. Eyehategod is my shit.

Well to be fair, Dime, Vinnie maybe Rex I’m not sure on his stance. May have not have been into the whole scene. But in 2000 for their final tour they had bands like Skrape, Static-X and I believe Slipknot opened for a few shows too. Even Brandon Boyd from Incubus states that Dime treated them well. The main man who hated the whole movement was Phil. I love nu-Metal and I love Pantera.
@Mrherbalful

@@Eccentricjuices Phil was and is a purist. However Pantera also received some criticism for changing the face of metal During cowboys and even VDP. Dime and Vinnie were down to earth and Rex was not that far off (another cool bro). I think it was Johnathan Davis who said Korn were playing a show and he looked down to see Dime in the pit moshing out with the crowd, Than again it may have been Tom Morello, it was years ago when I saw the interview

The original dragon ball z broly movie is what introduced me to pantera when they used their song 10s as his theme. It's always difficult for me to decide which is my favorite Pantera album; it's nearly as if there's a 3-way tie between 'Vulgar', 'Driven', and 'Trendkill'. I got to see Pantera 9 times live in-concert, between August 1994 in Philadelphia, and the last time in June or July 2001, also in Philly. They never disappointed any of the times I had the honor to see them. The Darrel Brothers are awaiting us in Valhalla. Their music will always be with us.

M'fer was so fucked up on Heroin it came out in his lyrics...pathetic is what it is...and he knows it. "I was no longer singing about confidence and power, I was singing about dope...it even comes out in your lyrics man...I go back and listen to it and I just *covers his face* ughhhhh!"

Damn, it made me cringe that you paused Suicide Note Pt 1 at the end before Pt 2 lmao. Just because of how kickass the flow in is lol. Nothing towards you lol. Great reaction man!

I got to say 10's was actually in an anime. Dragon Ball Z: Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. It kicks in right as Broly breaks free and transforms into his Legendary form. Really sets the mood for the curb stomp that follows.

One thing I love about Pantera and I always will. They were heavy and brutal Even in the songs that were slower and more melodic. They were still heavy as fuck pantera didn’t follow anything they followed what they wanted to do and they loved every minute of it 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💀💀💀

All 5 of their major releases were EPIC and groundbreaking. I don't really hear or feel the "nu metal" vibe you keep referencing, this album was their literal rejection of said trends...but everyone is influenced and influences others. Most will say the last album, Reinventing the Steel was their "weakest" but I think it's amazing in its own right. All that said, I remember buying Trendkill the week it came out at a Hastings..and was once again blown away. Hard to pick one fav, but if I had to, might be this one. Best opening to any album ever IMO. That ridiculous scream is just RAW...10's is just trippy...Suicide 1 & 2 is a Rollercoaster of emotion...Floods is epic in the purest sense of the word..and Sandblasted Skin....man....
