While Metallica were off finding the "hero of the day" I remember getting this album and yep, Pantera did it again...no worries there! Production was a little raw but overall it's ok and the album crushed. That was the biggest thing I noticed was the lack of "polish" if you will. I know this is 2 years late but... On tour for this album, they opened with suicide note part 1 over the PA with a giant, faded American flag with a coiled snake blocking the stage, lights glowing eerily behind it. As it transitioned into suicide note part 2, the flag fell to the stage and Phil, Dime & Rex jumped over it in full swing, riffs blaring. Saw them do this in Hampton VA. It was... absolutely amazing. I was on the rail, Dime side. Best concert of my life.

Well to be fair, Dime, Vinnie maybe Rex I’m not sure on his stance. May have not have been into the whole scene. But in 2000 for their final tour they had bands like Skrape, Static-X and I believe Slipknot opened for a few shows too. Even Brandon Boyd from Incubus states that Dime treated them well. The main man who hated the whole movement was Phil. I love nu-Metal and I love Pantera.

All 5 of their major releases were EPIC and groundbreaking. I don't really hear or feel the "nu metal" vibe you keep referencing, this album was their literal rejection of said trends...but everyone is influenced and influences others. Most will say the last album, Reinventing the Steel was their "weakest" but I think it's amazing in its own right. All that said, I remember buying Trendkill the week it came out at a Hastings..and was once again blown away. Hard to pick one fav, but if I had to, might be this one. Best opening to any album ever IMO. That ridiculous scream is just RAW...10's is just trippy...Suicide 1 & 2 is a Rollercoaster of emotion...Floods is epic in the purest sense of the word..and Sandblasted Skin....man....
