Gaggle app seems really good too, has airspace and anti collisions .

Sweet takeoff and landing. Your looking comfy while enjoying that lawn chair in the sky. Helpful PPGPS presentation. I've used it a few times and keep going back to GPSTest. I might give another go. I really like the tablet setup. Though I figure my phone will work atop my reserve even though I rarely fly high enough to deploy it. Gud navigation allows you to map routes to points of interest with possible paracamping.
@MrHanowski3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for vid. Was hoping to learn more about how to use the app for navigation, eg, what everything on the screen means (blue lines, green lines, blue arrows, etc.), how to adjust course to match the map, how to find your way back home, how to identify the airspace around you, etc. In other words, explain how to use for basic navigation. Hope you will do a video like that. Let me know if you do. Thanks!
@MrHanowski3 жыл бұрын
You covered things in the manual, but not how to USE and interpret the app in flight. The manual doesn't cover that.

Really apprciate this introduction to PPGPS. I'm just about to get a wing from Clive as my first piece of kit. very shortly i'll be considering other things and whilst i prefer paper nav, this would be an amazing tool for recording flights and further nav. Cheers Fella. See you around.

Very useful video. I purchased the app several years ago but back then airspace couldn't be displayed. Noticed that you have added airspace so I have tried it. Appears to work with online maps but not at all zoom levels. Doesn't appear to work at all when using offline maps. Or maybe I am doing something wrong?

Great overview of the app. What is the device are you using the app on? Also, what version of OS and App do you have? There have been some comments about how the app draws a lot of power, have you any problems with that?
@PARANOOB6 жыл бұрын
It's a Huawei mediapad T3 7 inch. No idea about OS and app, both current I assume. Don't know about power, I just have a backup battery but haven't had to use it yet. I guess any app using GPS once a second will use a lot.

@TimPriestChannel6 жыл бұрын
If you are on a phone or have a SIM card it will ask you when you turn it on if you want to download the latest airspace.
@PARANOOB6 жыл бұрын
The version on my phone doesn't do that..? If I have the file loaded it asks if I want to parse it. Which I assume means unpack and display it.
@TimPriestChannel6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry. I was relying to Alfonso :)
@TimPriestChannel6 жыл бұрын
My SD card is not reading so it can't access the airspace but I think it gives me the option to update which takes a minute then to parse... another minute or so. I think parsing is unpacking it.

Cheers for the video - bought the app today to be used with free flight rather than ppg for me. I loaded in airspace and can see this displayed o the map, but wondered how the app uses the airspace to help you in flight. Does it prompt you when you are approaching airspace either from the side or coming up from below to the floor of controlled airspace? Or does it just make the map look pretty without offering any real functionality? Would be good to know. Cheers again
@PARANOOB6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, it just shows on the map. You can see your position and the airspace.. it's just a GPS app...
@athertop6 жыл бұрын
@@PARANOOB I asked same question of the developer to see what he says. So if you're in the airspace does it give you any airspace details like what class and the floor altitude? Without this it's a bit pointless I'd say
@PARANOOB6 жыл бұрын
No it just shows on the map. That's all I need personally. I know the types of airspace I'm expecting from my flight plan, then in flight I just need to know how close I am.
@mikechivers57926 жыл бұрын
Hello, slowly going through your videos, although not in any particular order I must confess. Sorry. I know you would have answered this question before but how much was your set up? I to randomly saw a Tucker Gott video 2 years ago but still haven't got the courage to fly. I will though. Another question is, is it or does it feel safe? Do you have a reserve? Sorry for the questions. All the best. Oh and I subbed.👍🤙
@PARANOOB6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Mike, and for the sub! Training: 1200, wing 1300, motor 3625 Sundry other bits required.. helmet, flying suit, etc.. insurance if you want/need it. It's as safe as you make it. When you're new and still getting used to different types of air, it occasionally doesn't 'feel' safe, but as you learn to trust your wing you chill out.. it's the lack of experience that makes it feel unsafe. In reality, unless you're up in air you shouldn't be up in, it's safe. I have a reserve which I bought as I needed it for the Icarus race. I don't fly with it. If I was doing acro, or flying in a race etc, I'd attach it. If I had an underseat one, or a small, neat front mount, I'd probably have it all the time.

Thank you Sandy. Yes, the screen is obviously nicer to use, the intstruments being smaller etc. Lack of data connection has tripped me up on occasion though, the map suddenly 'running out' and becoming really low res. Blurry roads an inch thick etc. Next step is to load in offline maps. I tried, but I think I got the zoom layers the wrong way round. Currently I'll be doing the Icarus with a map zoom level as seen from the international space station...
