Nice. Clinical sleep educators are needed everywhere-especially in the rural areas. Bravo. I passed the sleep educator course in 2015 but did not go on to earn the CCHS. It would not have garnered me a job, and at my age it just didn’t make sense.

Great classic Lanky. It is so helpful to get an idea of what is not an apnea and how to recognize arousals which may not be apnea, but still may affect sleep quality.

I like your take on what we know is REM related respiratory variability. Side note: I believe this is the reason we so often over titrate severe COPD patients. For such patients, normal respiratory variability in REM may provoke desaturations due to the diseased lung, even when the PAP is adequately titrated. Unfortunately, we often fail to move these same patients to BiLevel soon enough to deal with internal respiration issues that occur in the diseased lung. Thanks.

Just imported for the first time, don't know if I'm worried or very worried, for me it looks so bad, :( , as for the treatment part, I see a therapist, see her every six month, get told I'm doing good good AHI, long sleep (6h) ... and here is your new mask, pay and go, but why do I still feel tired all the time? On my test night i had average 44 incidences an hour the longest lasting one was for 98 seconds.
@screamtoasigh9984 Жыл бұрын
imho it's because they're looking at averages (like on resmed my air or luna on the machine it'll say average .8 AHI, but when exported to Oscar it shows insane numbers in a short window). If you sleep 9 hours a night and have good sleep for 6 of them, your average will be really low and look good but the other 3 hours will be terrible. (Before OSCAR i knew my data was off because my garmin watch was showing my spo2 was at 82% for most of the night - just like pre-cpap). Bottom line, use Oscar - make sure your export has all those charts (it has to be set to plus in settings, I forgot what it is called), and then make sure your therapist has that data not the averages. (I know this is late, but I figured people scrolling through might find it helpful).

Thanks for the video! I understand that it’s pretty simple to purchase an SD card and go through the import process but, I am wondering why we can’t access the data directly from the machine? I mean, you bought it, it’s yours but, somehow, the data only gets to your DME which, as I can see form comments (I will get my first machine this week) seem to treat the data as proprietary...

I think there is some software made by each manufacturer, but they're pretty bad...and they don't make you aware of the existence of these programs. OSCAR is superior in my opinion.

I recently got a new computer running Win 10. I reinstalled OSCAR but it won't import my data. The card is in the data reader but when I click on CPAP importer, it launches a window asking me to select a DIRECTORY or a FOLDER. It doesn't ask for the card reader drive and automatically import like it did on my old computer that ran Win 7. I even tried running OSCAR in compatibility mode for Win 7 and it's still not importing. Frustrating...

I have been on a Respironics System One for 11 years and will be getting a new CPAP machine very soon. I am wondering if I should get the Airsense 10 which is compatible with OSCAR, or the Airsense 11 which is not YET compatible. My inclination is to “futureproof” by buying the brand new model, but I don’t know how long I will have to wait for OSCAR to be available. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks.

I'm wondering if my 3 year old Dream Station is faulty. The max pressure is set at 19 but Oscar shows it never going over 9. There have been several nights in the past month that woke up gasping and the machine didn't seem to be putting out enough pressure.
@Freecpapadvice4 жыл бұрын
Without seeing your machine settings and looking at the data I don’t know. Sounds like any events aren’t being captured to cause the pressure to increase. May want to change to CPAP mode and increase it to 12cmH20.....then see what happens after several nights.

Do you have an introduction video on Oscar? I thought this would be it, but this assumes you got the data from the machine to the computer. I have a AirSense 11 I picked up two days ago and am having a hell of a time figuring this all out. I got a SD card, eventually figured out how to initialize it, put it into the slot on the side of the machine, then nothing. Maybe somehow the machine transferred the data to the SD card without telling me. So I remove it from the machine, insert it into the card reader on my Mac and now my Mac can't read it and asks me to initialize it again. I also don't see the Navigation side bar in Oscar, what I see when I run Oscar looks nothing like what I see in this video. Help!

why would you initialize it? did you ever figure it out?

James. I've been waking up at 3:30 am for my whole life... just plan accordingly. Dishes, laundry , bookkeping, my " todo list " for the day....even though I go back to sleep from 5 am to 9 am... I must say, this video is more of a tutorial on what tool someone can use to fix treatment problems but does not describe "how" to do so. I think the title is misleading. All of your examples are data points we should throw out, and then towards the end when you finally see what could be a legitimate event (at 10:58) you dismiss that one as well. How do I identify a real apnea event and HOW I could make improvements when I see a data point like that? The video does not contain any methods or techniques to leverage Oscar to improve sleep/CPAP treatment, despite the title. Really all this video does is give me the sense that I'll get no value out of Oscar and I need to just give up and remain sleepy all the time :(
@Freecpapadvice4 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the video is meant to show people what is out there in as short a form as possible. In the description box I have links to actual tutorials...several of them that go over this in more detail. The information that you are looking for are in those videos in the description box. Not sure what you're going on about with the title as this is a short form series. Probably why I didn't put "how to" in the title. Use OSCAR or not. It's up to you. It's a tool available for you to use for free, as are my other tutorials. I have a playlist of them on my channel so people can find them easier.

Good in terms of initially starting CPAP. Many people have a difficult time getting a full 8 hours because they are so used to getting by on much less. It's just a good goal to shoot for.

Honestly this wasn't that helpful. You basically showed us what is NOT a real apnea, but you didn't show what is a real one to look for? Even the one you said looked real, you called it off saying it was because it was REM sleep. So what does a real apnea/hypopnea actually look like?
