I like the paint box and I might pick one up since I'm having a hard time storing my Citidel paints in my current paint box (which is a large tiered makeup box). My shade pots currently stand upright but the larger texture pots are too big and have to lay down anyways so I don't think it would bother me too much on the painbox. Texture pots are so think they don't leak very well thankfully. Thanks for the review! I wanted to see the box before actually spending the money on it first!

Been using paint pots along with other styles like dropper bottles for a lot of years now and they're fine. If you are getting paint so jammed up under the lids of your pots then that's a you problem, not the manufacturer's. A lot of the biggest painting channels on youtube either have these on their walls (ms paints) or even just jumbled up in a big drawer (eons of battle).

I am actually a huge fan of the Citadel paint rack. In my country it's a pain in the neck to get access to miniature paint racks and I did not feel like getting one abroad. As such had to settle for a Citadel paint rack. My thought process was "whatever, how bad can it be?" and for me it actually does exactly what I wanted it to. I tend to keep my paints lying around my desk like a chaos for the miniature/color scheme I am currently working for, so for that kind of purpose the Citadel paint rack really is pretty great. I was super worried about using the legs at first, but in a vertical position it feels really secure. I will say though, that with legs I would not feel comfortable loading the whole thing full of paints, but leave like the last row empty. Probably would not buy it if the convenient selection was better than it was, but if you need a decent fix for moderate amount of chaos, highly recommend.

Hey rob, i tell other people to do this as well with gw paints. Just cut the tab off the back of the pots with a sprue cutter. Sure, you cant hold the lid open by use of the tab after you cut it, not that keeping it open is a good idea anyway since gw paints dry really quickly, but you will be able to fully close the paint pots much better without it

solid review. thanks for the up close look. I too do not like the horizontal paint storage. I'll keep using my older project box and "lap table". I might be in the minority but I still have a number of paint tops that are the hexagon style and they do not fit in the circle style paint tray. Do they fit in the new hex paint tray, could that be a nod to the old school GW painters out there?
@nevzilla6 жыл бұрын
I think I might grab me one of those paint trays. I have a vibrating shaker I want to use, but I need something reliable to hold the pots in place. This might be exactly what I need as it would be easier to hold the tray in place then one pot.

Thanks for reviewing this. I have the Ultimate Paint Set on order at the moment, which is a good deal as Citadel pricing goes for the volume of paints involved. This assumes you dont pay full retail price though. £175 is too steep, £140 however is pretty good. For that you get the larger box, 42x 12ml pots, 11x 24ml pots, three brushes, clippers, mold line remover and painting handle. There is another smaller set which has the smaller box almost all the paints but none of the tools for £125/£100. Also a good deal if you like the Citadel range. Good selection included too, but focused on chapter colours. the full colour range including base paint and both layers are included for the Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Imperial Fists and Dark Angels. This is perhaps at the expense of a broader general range. So for example all the greens were Dark Angel armour related, or orc fleshtones i had to separate order camo shade greens. Overall there is a lot of overlap between this set and the old layer paint and base paint selection boxes, and bar the narrow but deep selection of blue and green colours (- ALL the blues are Ultramarine related) its a fairly decent compilation of colours at least to start you with.

I feel like I'm buying completely different paint pots, mine haven't come so much as close to drying out especially over the intense summer we had that lasted until october, and I've had most of them for over a year prior to that. As far as good quality brands go, GW Paints are one of the cheapest options here, too, around £2.55 a pot. (Vallejo and Reaper are 2.70)
@thewok5 жыл бұрын
GW prices everything at a premium in the US. The small clear cap pots are about $4.50, white caps are more, at about $6. Air colors and large shade pots are just shy of $8. Interested in Daughters of Khaine? in the UK, a box of Witch Aelves is 35 pounds. In the US, they run $60. And the pound isn't that strong. I certainly don't expect an equivalent price due to international freight and the like, but man, do some of these models and paints get expensive. (A can of Retributor Armor spray primer runs $28.) Meanwhile, Reaper sells their paints for $3.69, Army Painter is $3.25, and Vallejo goes for $5-6. So, GW isn't the most expensive paint here, but it's up there. I just got a set of the paint racks last night, and I'm not impressed. The paint fits snugly, but there is no room to read the labels. You pretty much have to pull pots out to see the labels, or note the color on the top of the cap somehow. I'm going to shove this thing in a drawer and pick up a nice laser-cut paint rack I saw on Amazon.

The paint racks are terrible, they're good for transport and that's about it. But after a while GW paint pots stop closing properly due to paint accumulation on the lid, so a risk to run in one of these cases. The battle figure cases are so impractical, and cause more breakage due to parts getting caught on the foam. If you want figure transport, I can't stress Battlefoam enough.
