Ms. Newman's and Mr. Randall's erudition, focus, and elan, as seen especially in the lightninng rounds, is what made them much-admired but still underrated actors.

The soldier stationed in Tappan (NY) was at the Nike Missile Base on Clausland Mountain. The barracks housing was the last part of the old Camp Shanks compound that was retained for military use, Camp Shanks being where soldiers were stationed before being shipped overseas during WWII and where they returned temporarily after the war. Where I lived in Blauvelt, a number of houses on my street had been moved from the camp as they were built on slabs: no basements. The missile base housing is still in place but I am fairly certain it is all privately owned now.

The 'play to the last minute and whoever has a higher score gets the 250' was a real stroke of genius. The game started quickly after brief introductions, inter-spaced with fun lightning rounds and we get 'game' right up to the last minute. What's My Line took several years before they dumped their hated 'walk of shame', three guesses and got into the fun of the GAME.

Funny, I've never heard of burlap curtains before. I've heard of burlap bags all my life (so I thought the clue was going to be "bag" after they had coarse & material out of the way).

I've binged watched almost every b/w episode while recovering from surgery and it has become evident to me that the fix is in on many of the rounds. They decide who they want to win and then can send in a word that can easily be guessed on the first attempt. Also, they can send in a word that can easily be guessed in two attempts. They repeat certain words over and over because they've determined the probable response. Follow the many episodes and you'll easily see what I've determined is accurate and true.

I have noticed that they play words based on celebrity names and occupations way beyond coincidence. for instance when Robert Stack was a guest they used Stack as a word. When Gene Kelly was a guest, right from the beginning I guessed that they'd use the word 'Tap' and they did.
