Useful to me. I struggle with the Crave getting good sounds. Nice inspiration!

Thanks.. there’s lots in here, just needs teasing out with some exploration and experimentation. I’ve a few other videos with some more ideas.

Hi, I'm quite new to FM, so don't have a very good understanding of it. I notice you mod the VCF, is this FM? Is this not just some sort of AM with phase shifting? Isn't FM modding the pitch of the oscillator? Thanks.
@StarskyCarr4 жыл бұрын
Strictly speaking perhaps. I’m modulating the filter frequency at the frequency of the oscillator similar to the Rev 2 or tempest. So could be considered a type of FM.. of the filter. The tempest calls it audio mod. It comes under the cross-mod section of the OB6 and poly mod on the Prophet6. Cross mod on the Jupiters for example is only oscillator to oscillator. There’s linear FM like the DX7 and exponential FM on analogs so the terms are not strictly adhered to. FM on the DX7 for example is actually phase modulation (as far as I recall). For simplicity’s sake I called the FM as I think most will understand it’s using the oscillator as a modulation source.

@@StarskyCarrI've read that the old synth used the term cross-mod for about a dozen different things. lol. Thanks.

thanks for the informative video. I got my Crave yesterday, and one thing that makes me wonder is that it seems to react to note velocity over din-midi? Tried it several times, to hit a single note light and hard and the sound changes when I do that. Is it supposed todo this or is it a bug in my system?
@StarskyCarr5 жыл бұрын
I think this is a setting on the Behringer synth tool app. It’s definitely not a bug. Download the app and change to constant velocity. I think it has notes with a velocity higher than a certain value will trigger an accent - and you can define what an accent does (how much additional volume and cutoff etc).

@@StarskyCarr Didnt know about the synthtool, thanks. Another question, my Crave has this little "digital noise" jitter in the background. It seems to come from the LFO.light, cause the "jitter"-frequency raises when i change the speed of the LFO. Is this on all Craves or did I get a bad one? Its kind of distracting since you hear it even with low volume. Sounds like a sample with some digital noise at the end when you play a note. Not what you except from a analog synth :)

@@AndrewTSq I've not notice it on mine.. I get something similar from my Sherman filterbank (that's supposed to be there) so I know the sound you're talking about. I'll take a closer listen.

@@StarskyCarr Ok, thanks for your answer. I Will send my Crave back, and hopefully they have another one in stock to send me :)
